- The Las Vegas Raiders have decided to bench Derek Carr this week against the San Francisco 49ers and will let Jarrett Stidham get the start. Josh McDaniels said it is quote: 'an opportunity to evaluate a younger player.' According to reports, Carr will step away from the team this week to avoid being a distraction. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discuss whether they believe Carr has played his final play in the silver and black.

As a long time Raiders fan, I honestly feel for Carr. As well as Adams, Jacobs, Crosby, Waller.... because the problem with the team is the organization they are wasting the prime of their athletic abilities with. After every good or winning season they followed it up with coaching changes and player movement. I'll admit they tried to create consistency with Gruden's contact but even Stevie Wonder knew that was a bad deal going into it. I wish Carr the best wherever he goes

He didn't understand modern football, his ego prevented him from appreciating the talent on the team as well as developing talent that was drafted and ultimately he didn't care for Carr yet knew he didn't have a viable replacement. It had to be tough for everybody there to come to work everyday knowing they could be cut or traded, devalued if not disrespected on the regular and all this while trying to learn a playbook about what used to work and go out and try to win games. It's not Derek's fault he's had multiple HCs and multiple OCs and each coach would come in and implement a completely different scheme year after year. He kept being blamed for loses that the defense was responsible, while never blaming anyone for them. I want Raider Nation to give this man love.
Shannon said what I have been thinking. Derek Carr has had to go through a lot of moving parts. Even moving locations. Carr could have played better of course but I can't ignore what all has happened with the Raiders. Plus the fact that the current HC there hasn't proven to be successful as a HC. I really wouldn't be surprised if McDaniels begs for Tom Brady to go to the Raiders to save his HC career so that he isn't begging for Bill B. to hire him back to the Patriots.

Carr has had some bad games as a Raider, but as Sharpe mentioned, Carr has rarely been accompanied by a competent defense. Too bad the Raiders can't fire McDaniels yet (not enough money to buy out his contract) because he's a bigger problem than Carr has ever been.
Mostly true! but even in individual games when the defense does perform well, Carr seems to shrivel up and the offense goes into hibernation as if the Raiders never know what to do when they take a lead and how to maintain that lead. Feels like the past 20 years Raiders must keep games incredibly close or have to win because we have last possession of the ball. Especially with Carr the past 9 years.

Not a Raider fan, so looking at McDaniels and Carr from a different prospective.
It always looked like Derek Carr was another version of Jimmy G, at this time Jimmy is probably better (not counting injuries).
But McDaniels…, always thought he was a product of Belichick’s system and Brady HOF qualities. Most of the assistants coming out of that system have limited success or none at all outside of NE.
Partly is Carr’s undoing, but it doesn’t get McDaniels off the hook either.
I was telling a friend of mine, not sure if the Vegas move was a good idea for the organization vibe. Too many distractions in Sin City.
I agree with you on most things such as Carr being a poor man's Jimmy G, however we differ slightly I guess, in the sense I think Carr does deserve fair share of the blame, he's the mascot, the front man, he takes the few wins well, and cries when they lose, while everyone else regardless of position gets the blame and are considered losers.

The situation with derek and the raiders is similar to the lions and Matt Stafford. The relationship has soured and both sides need to separate for both sides to heal and get healthy. And that's fine it happens, derek has not played up to his potential and it's time to move on and give someone else a shot. As a life long Raider fan I thank derek for his time/ service and also thank the raiders for making this tough decision that needed to be made.

10 years ago Chiefs hired Andy Reid. 11 years ago Raiders hired Dennis Allen. It doesn't happen overnight but the Mark Davis era speaks for itself.

As a lifelong Raiders fan I can definitely say Carr is not the issue. The issue is terrible coaching, poor defense, and injuries. Sure Carr has been inconsistent at times but he shouldn't take the whole blame. Carr has most 4th quarter comebacks of the modern era because the defense puts the team behind every game. Carr is going to go to a different team and light the Raiders up every time they play

LOL ... I can see a Trent Dilfer, or maybe even a Matthew Stafford situation here. I don't think he is quite as talented as Stafford, but he certainly has been better than Dilfer so far in his career. Stafford went to a loaded team and won a Super Bowl. Dilfer went to a team with a loaded defense and won a Super Bowl. And let's not forget someone like Bernie Kosar, who the genius Bill Belichick decided was finished and cut in Cleveland, only to go to Dallas for the last four games of the 1993 season (and he started one of them) and get a Super Bowl ring. So seeing Carr catch on with the right squad and get the last laugh on this one wouldn't be a surprise.

Carr is only a 30% of the problem. Yes, he leads in interceptions, but is he on the field losing those late game leads? The defense has to take some part of the blame for at least that part. The coaching staff is also part of the blame because it looks like the team just isn't ready to play when the time comes. Lastly, the organization for thinking Josh was ready to be a HC again. That man is a clown who barely deserves to be in the league.
Leads in int? Tied with dak now. Except dak has a decent defense and is 12-4.

I think Carr is a decent QB. He’s inconsistent but everything around him has been inconsistent as well. If he was in a better situation I think he could possibly be a top 5 QB.
I think Derek Carr is good enough to be a starter for a below average team or be a backup anywhere.
