As a employee of a large auction house I can tell you that auction houses, especially that one, don’t check or open art until post sale. The only reason they would open it or do more than a cursory inspection would be to reframe as per the client. The house wants to get it up, sell it and ship it ASAP.
FYI, part of the deal that Banksy's people made with sotheby's was that the frame couldn't be inspected. Apparently this is common place as for many artists, the frame is an integral part of the artwork. So by inspecting the frame, it means they would be taking apart the artwork itself.
