- Watch as I fit my old Scottoiler, rescued from the now sold Versys, to the 'new' Yamaha FZ1-N. I also manage to find a nice little space to mount the oiler, that I've not seen used before.... NO not THERE!

Very kind of you to say so IM. You are, after all, the master of such garagey shenanigans!
@@AndyManCam i get it .this is faff.NO Bike Stuff just faff.
Not really sure what you’re getting at Tony? Bad day? How is fitting a chain lubrication upgrade to a motorbike not Bike stuff?! 😳
it really looks like a 15 minute job. meaning I'll probably spend around 3 hours in the garage tonight installing the same thing on my bike 😂
Only ever used a scottoiler if they came fitted to a bike, same with heated grips. Never really felt the need for either.
+Jay B I wouldn't go without one now!
So glad I don't have to mess around with chains anymore. Glorious shaft drive now. With my one on the versys, I never had to adjust the chain in the year I had it. Went through tires faster
I don't hate chains so much now I have this gadget. Despite the faff of swapping it from one bike to the next, I wouldn't have gone without it!
This just shows how versatile the Scottoiler fitment set up is. Hopefully you won't have to move it a third time :-) I was impressed too that you kept up the commentary in front of the other folks working in the area around you. I probably would have ended up with a silent video with either subtitles or a voiceover, lol. Anyway, great job Andy. Look forward to the next one.
+My_1emm_World Hopefully not mate! Though i have a feeling that this bike is going to be putting a smile on my face for quite some time! I just told myself that i was keeping up appearances and reinforcing stereotypes of the crazy tinkering brits! Plus it's never quite as natural or real with a voice over!
Andy Man Cam - You’re right, it’s never the same. I have a feeling the bike will definitely keep your smile in place, it ticks so many boxes. Enjoy!
Nice video - thanks for sharing!
Thank you John, my pleasure!
Keep them coming AMC
Will do mate! :D
as the bishop said to the quire boy.
Neat and tidy, just like your vids. Nice one, Andy.
Thanks mate!
I know Scottoil advise against dripping oil onto the front sprocket, but I've done exactly that on my last 2 bikes with no problem other than a few extra splots on the garage floor. I'd say 33k miles for the OE chain on a 900 hornet wasn't bad, Scottoiler fitted the 1st week. No unsightly pipe along the swingarm.
It certainly sounds like a much tidier option. Might look into that for a cleaner swingarm. Cheers!
Oh that drop counting never worked for me :D oil was all over the rear... until I clicked the thing to min setting. Some say the nozzle can be mounted on front sprocket if there's enough room - promising much more neat and cleaner setup...
Haha! I had some moments in Croatia due to the sudden heat increase! The oil was like water at 35 degrees! Front sprocket would be MUCH nicer! Might look into on first chain change in 500,000 km!!
I'm not sure sure, I can't be certain, but I'm in some doubt as to whether you used enough cable ties there Mr.Cam! ;) Scottoiler is a very useful bit of kit and we have them on our bikes too. We do find we have to adjust the flow throughout the year as the temperature does affect the flow a fair bit. Once every 3 months or so. Also, our lad's one likes to clog up the dispenser "straw" at the end, so needs regular checking. Great video though, as always! Also, we bought one of the Kettenmax chain cleaners at your recommendation and find it works surprisingly well!
Thanks! I had my doubts too! I swear by these gadgets. They actually almost completely took away my hatred of chains and allowed me to consider the new bike because of it. I'd said no more chains, but am now a somewhat changed man. I also only need to dig the kettenmax out once every 6 months or so now too!
Good one Andy, good job! Another interesting thing is that for the first time we are able to see your face... (at least for me)... check reflection on fuel tank :)
Haha! You haven't seen the Q and A video then? But yeah, I only noticed afterwards but decided I'm not so bothered anymore!!
i see your face .twat.
Hi Andy, love your vids, think I’ve watched them all at least twice.. I know you took the Scottoiler off the older Versys, but do you know if it would fit/work on a new version of versys, 2017/18 model? Thanks
+Chris Baker Thanks Chris! I don't see why it wouldn't work. As far as I'm aware, the newer model has the same EFI and throttle body parts as the older models. So the vac pipe should work as normal. I've been wrong before though! Maybe worth checking on the Scottoiler website. If the same model is listed for the '07 and 17/18 bikes then all good.
Nice install, I've got a Tutoro installed on mine. Btw did you consider getting an exup eliminator to remove the servo motor thing? It's surprisingly heavy and using an eliminator frees up quite a bit of space.
Are you planning on changing the coolant anytime soon? I have the ABS model with stock belly pan (the reg rect is located here on my model) so I'm not sure if it's the same placement but the coolant reservoir is practically impossible to get to (without a syringe and hose) and the engine side clutch adjuster is pretty damn difficult too.
Thanks! I hadn't really considered it tbh. Not sure what I would use the space for and not so worried about the weight. Maybe once I've upgraded or replaced everything else I'd consider it. I haven't considered the coolant change yet. Should really test the anti freeze effectiveness as my garage has no heating. Hopefully won't be too bad as I have non ABS version. We'll see!!
I am just now accepting the fact that Polly is gone and seeing this bike so early in the morning is making me question my own existence.
Sorry about that. It's been harder for some of us to accept. But at least now I'm back in the same family! Only with more muscle and a wife beater instead of a cardigan!
I am still in the introductory stages with Karry and about to start the €uro Too! series. Between that and not having my morning coffee yet... (insert witty remark that makes coffee so it could be sprayed all over the keyboard).
+psychotic memories You've still got SO much to get through! I've watched netflix dry so i envy you a bit!
She sure is a looker! Gotta love the Yammis. You thought about adding some LEDs ;o)
And she's getting better looking with every session in the Garage! I actually HAVE added some LEDs. But sadly not the kind that you have bruv!! :D
will led makit go faster
Ive never use an oiler before, A good how to vid mate. RSM8
Thanks Kev. Now that I've tried one, I wouldn't NOT have one. Reduces most of the headaches associated with chains.
yep...that 'll do it...
That DID it!
Cable ties ftw , bikers best mate 👍🏻
I agree! Never leave home without them!!
Your at it again! Great VID though, other than the induced motion sickness, I'm just off to the loo to be.....🤮 ahh to late.
Thanks Gordon and sorry about the nausea!
Well , if you poke around enough you can usually find a nice big cavity ......
I'm certain, that is what she said.
Aldi sell those wipes they aren't bad. As for 12" long 5mm thick fingers, the times they would be handy is incalculable.
I swear by them! Ironically my missus hates cleaning here glasses with them!! Even though we have several boxes kicking around at any given moment!!
Centre stand......you know it makes sense!
Hopefully will sort one out soonish. Vital for when I install my jack up dogbones!
That was a brilliant install mate!
Thanks mate! And the chain is now protected for life!! Well, the chain's life! :D
@@AndyManCam and how long is that ..head in the sande.
thumbsUP!
Thanks!!
welp, coffee at 23.30 is a bad idea but I guess I'll get a brew going before I watch.
It's all about what is more important. These videos were designed with hot beverage refreshments in mind. So that's how they work best. Doctors orders.
and get a bike.
Hi AMC , just wondering what type of puncture repair kit have you on the Bike, thanks,
It's the older version of this kit: www.louis.de/artikel/slime-pannen-set-gross-fuer-schlauchlose-reifen/10032590?filter_article_number=10032590&list=fe4df1403c88213fb5af387963fbb260
just had a question with the o-ring chains the oil your using is petroleum based? wont it damage the o-rings?
Isn’t it the other way around? Petroleum is oil based! In any case, no trouble after a couple of years of use. That said, i always found it too thin so I’ve switched back to using the proper Scottoiler branded stuff now.
@@AndyManCam oil or petroleum based lubricants either term could apply. The point is either oil based or petroleum based lubricants whichever terminology you prefer are not o-ring safe lubricants o-rings require a synthetic lubricant that will not damage the o-ring. I guess I could have said is that oil based oil your using lol anyway ya you get the idea you would probably even get more life from your o-ring chain if you used an o-ring safe "lubricant".
That fuel tank does have a nice mirror finish, doesn't it? ;-)
It does! Lucky I already got my mush out in front of everyone!!
When I saw the title I was wondering what a Scotoiler RE was, doh!
Hahaha! It does look a little confusing! Sorry!
OldManTony , me too never heard of it. I have a shaft drive BMW so not on my radar.
*Handy Man Cam.
Oily Aperture Man Cam......
That your Bimmer in the background?
Afraid not. I share the garage space with the BMW owner. I've yet to actually see him ride it!
Would you still recommend getting a scottoiler?
Thanks. MN
Absolutely. On my current bike I'm running a Tutoro because I didn't want the expense of the electric Scottoiler setup and I didn't want to cut into the vacuum pipes. But the Scottoiler has provided me with many happy miles of mostly chain maintenance free riding. Get the setup that works for you, but both are really very good.
@@AndyManCam Brilliant, thank you! Hope to see you on the road someday.
My pleasure! See you out there!
If that FZ falls over , God forbid, and all those cable ties release, the bike will explode into a Brazilian pieces. Btw with the new Euro regulations on vehicles, gassing yourself in your garage might lead to starvation.
What a god almighty faff Andy, you have reaffirmed my absolute belief in the virtues of the shat drive....amen.
Yep. Masive faff, but honestly way better than the monthly/weekly faff of chain without oiler! I know, shaft FTW, but in the meantime...
you also see the big "FAFF"
But its oiling only outside of the Chain what is with inside part
The chain itself is a sealed unit and the links are internally greased. The oil just keeps the chain wet, clean and lubricates between the rollers and the sprocket. Though Scottoiler do also have a dual nozzle attachment for those who are desperate for both sides to get the same oiling.
Best piece of kit going SO, fit and forget, less chain adjustment trouble free kit.
Agreed. I wanted an FZ1-N for ages, but swore no more chains. Then my time with this doohicky on the versys re-opened the possibility of enjoying chain driven bikes again.
crap, lazy nothing to do with motor bikes
should i put it on my sinnis 250,or will it cost more then the bike ,i am a OAP. and a bomber.
It’s more a case of how much faff it will save you for the rest of the bikes life! Mine only cost 75€ and has prolonged the chain life and reduced the faff on 2 different bikes. Money well spent in my opinion!
@@AndyManCam there is a better way get a shaft drive,i like to see what my chain and sprockets are doing.what is faff.? is it a new thing.like evans .
You can see what your chain and sprockets are doing Tony. With a scottoiler they don’t end up caked in goopy mess. Mine are still shiny even though I last cleaned them 6 months ago. If you don’t know what faff is, then you’re leading a charmed life as a biker. Seems to go with the territory for most of us.
@@AndyManCam but do you rely on the magik of your faff thing (chaine loober) or years of biking.
I don’t understand the question mate. I have relied on the chain oiler during years of biking. It extended the life of my last chain by double compared to the one had before it without the Oiler. If you’d rather rely on experience to keep your chain well lined, then crack on my friend!
The "asset stripping" has started to the poor old Versys. After thousands of reliable kms, it's off to the knackers yard.:(
I'm afraid so. Lucky for her, the gear indicator wouldn't work on the FZ1. Poor old girl. Though she's gone away to a farm in Kassel now. So FAR better riding than here in Hamburg! She deserved better!
If you want a handy stand check the stands from Abba. Got one for my 600RR and it works like a charm. Also less chance to drop the bike. abbastands.co.uk/product-detail.asp?item=superbike-stand&pid=1
They look pretty handy! Though they're getting close to the cost of a retrofit centre stand. Obviously way more stable of course.
hmmm.........
ummmm...
In these videos it seems like it is manditory for a tool to aquire the urge to make a break for it.
Shaft drive......just sayin
Yeah, I know! But cost and size of machine are still the limiting factors. I'm still not ready to settle down with a spaceship sized bike just yet!
Weight, shaft jacking, and driveline lash. A few downsides to shaft.
Wendy LP Shaft jacking😲.... didn’t realise there are shaft jackers out there! ..... I’ll be sure to extra watchful. Anyone know where I can buy a shaft lock?
