Review on the Scottoiler V-System auto chain oiler.

- I decided to fit two of these to my bigger hire bikes because I'm not totally on the ball with lubing the chains on them. These are my findings.

Found one of these on a Honda CBF1000FA that I purchased recently. It did approx 800 miles before I had to refill it. Mine is the basic one feed system. However, the oil does get to the other side of the chain & there is hardly any fling off at all. I am really impressed because it has probably saved me 2-3 cans of chainlube already and the rear wheel is kept a lot cleaner. It seems to lube the chain perfectly, I am so impressed with this bit of kit that I wouldn't want to be without it.
The tube used for the vacuum tube (the skinny black line going to the vacuum source) is the same material as the nozzles. If you have any left, make your own nozzles!
my bike already had this installed when I bought it! Ill never have a bike without one now.
I have both the v-system and e-system both on dual injectors with lube tubes. I've done over 3000 miles on the e system and the chain is still within the slack tolerance. The lube tube means I can forget about the chains for well into the 2000 mile mark on both bikes. I had issues with one of the lube tubes leaking but once i had described the issue to scottoiler they sent me out a new one free of charge even though I had bought it from a bike shop. Happy to recommend the equipment and the service!

After both dual injectors were trash I resorted back to the single system and I've found that I never needed the dual system. As long as the single injector actually touches the sprocket in the right place it WILL oil both sides of the chain nicely due to the capillary effect. Many people seem to hate flinging but it genuinely keeps the chain nice and clean. It will even fling off sand if for some reason you get it on the chain. I HIGHLY recommend the product, sans the dual injector.
I've had Scottoiler (V-) systems on all of my bikes and they are brilliant. They do need some adjusting from time to time (depending if it's raining or unusually hot outside) but they keep my chain nicely lubed. I do get some fling like many others but it doesn't bother me. I do really dislike the dual injectors though. Like many others my sprocket ate them up after going over a speedbump with a pillion. They also tend to lock up on one side making it an expensive single feed system.
How about a follow-up to this? how did the chains do over time?
I've had the single sided e-System on a Hyosung 650 for 19 000 km and it's perfect. Chain is oily all over. Don't need to adjust it in any temperature. No chain adjustments yet. Most adverts for bikes of this age claim "new chain and sprockets" but there's no visible wear on the cheap standard ones yet.
I've been using the oiler for two years now. Overall - quite satisfied - does exactly what "they" say it does. Here are my comments suggestions:
- The viscosity of the oil, bundled with the system is unstable and sensitive to temperature changes. Once I used all of it, I just poured in some leftover fully-sythetic 10W motor oil - huge difference! My advice would be to use the cheapest synthetic or semi-sythetic motor oil you could find.
I've had both the e-system and v-system. E-system I fitted myself to my old ER6, with dual dispenser; v-system came pre-fitted on my current VFR with single feed dripping on rollers from a height, rather than sprocket edge (VFR doesn't have a flat sprocket, complicating things). The e-system is easily adjustable from handlebars, has temperature so it doesn't need fiddling depending on weather, and gauge showing amount of oil left means you don't normally forget to refill.
The last tip I want to give is this; if there is a nice place you can mount it but can still access it without having to remove the seat, mount it there! On my Blackbird I have it mounted on the left side underneath the rear fairing. There is a little hidden subframe handle (to put the bike on the center stand) there and although the unit is completely hidden, I can easily stick my hand in there and make small adjustments without having to remove the seat. It's much, much nicer that way!
There's a new Scottoiler in town. It's call the X-System! Looks pretty good, as you no longer need a vac feed from the engine. It jumps straight off the battery and everything, including the controller is on the oil reservoir. And it primes the feeder tube to the rear sprocket at the press of a button! Neat 👍🏻
I have fitted X system to my new VStrom having had v system on my old v strom.The reason I went for X system was I didnt want to have to remove plastic and search for vacuum pipes on my new bike.Fitting x system only took minutes and very easy to prime.I,m very happy with it..I,m off to Spain in 3 weeks and wont have to worry about oiling my chain..
I used to hate creepers my self - until a few months I had a near miss of a life threatening accident on my bike. This meant that I had to learn to drive and it's much easier to creep in a car because of no balance needed
I have had a scottoiler on every chained motorbike I have owned. I know its a cliche, but it does exactly what it says on the tin.
According to Scottoiler, you must lightly oil the chain after fitting by using the bottle, which then causes the oil drops from the single pipe delivery system to reach both sides of the chain (since it'll be already wet with oil) But yeah, I've heard a lot of good things about these. Going to fit one to my bike soon, but i'm leaving it until I replace my chain and sprockets.

Same feelings here. Everyone I know with one of these complains about the same thing. No lubricant will ever set on chain immediately so you'll always end up spraying bits bike, road and own leg as you go along. I manually lube the chain every 600 miles or so and let it set before riding. Never had any problems and it's no hassle whatsoever as it takes only a moment.
Nice vid, some useful tips there. Always been intrigued by the E-System ever since M13 had his. Maybe one day I'll consider fitting that or the V-System.

I still got some spray on the tyre and - especially - on my license plates, they are covered in little black dots of oil. I found the e-system with dual feed quite effective at keeping my chain clean all by itself - dirt would get caught in oil and then get flung off, so chain just had little stripes of black across it with shiny metal showing through, even after thousands of miles with no cleaning. V-system is less convincing, harder to set rate, needs more attention to avoid running dry.

i had a v-system with my bandit, it didn't really lengthen the live span of my chain, though there were mechanical issues with that to begin with. I used chainsaw oil as lube though, so it definitely was dirt cheap, and it always created a giant mess on my entire left side of my bike

I fitted the Tutoro auto oiler similar sort of product twin (V) feed but uses a weight on a spring to open the valve so no link to the vacuum feed and for me it was simpler to fit because of that. Works best if you can have the reservoir near vertical ( mine is mounted on the back of the number plate ) and again it is difficult to get the flow level right I use the Scott chain oil in it as this is easier to purchase.
i have had a scottoiler for a long while and originally had a single tube for the drip, which tbh was pretty rubbish. replaced with the dual feed and its much better, but took a long time to work out how much oil drip I needed. I now scottoil and lube manually after chain cleaning maintenance. the only fling I found with my setup is around the front sprocket which gets very oily and the front of the swing arm but my chain still is as good as new. I ride a dl650 vstrom 2010
My bandit (600) had a v system with the single injector fitted when I bought it and I have never had a problem with the oil reaching the opposite side of the chain. Most problems come as a result of poor set-up and with the single injector system, Scottoiler recommend that the chain is first cleaned, and then lubricated by brush applying an initial film of the Scottoil over the chain. Once this film is applied all over the chain (just a film of oil is required, not a flood!) the single injector is sufficient to keep the oil film maintained as the oil will find it's way all over the rollers.
like I said, I've not experienced any problems with the V-system and 4500miles later, have not had to adjust the chain yet!.. (maybe soon!)
UPDATE> I also discovered I had a "Magnum" reservoir fitted too. This means fill it up once and forget it until you've covered around 4-6000 miles depending on the delivery rate. And it works too!
Can I ask about the center mirror? I need one for my Motorhome!! (Could also be good for sons K1200RS!!) ;-) Where did you get it?

interesting people critisizing having to fiddle with the oil flow on days with temperature variations , dont you check youre tyre pressures everyday teperature variaton affects those things too , if you cant be arsed adjusting a scot oiler then im guessing youre not particularly overkeen on bike maintainance either ... just sayin
Yeah, Scottoiler just gums up your chain. I wish they came up with a system that would spray dry lube on the chain after pre-defined intervals maybe even taking environment temperature and moisture into consideration.
Hi Russ. I found Scottoilers a bit on the pricey side and never liked the idea of cutting pipes etc (I'd only mess it up anyway) but I had the Tutoro automatic system on my ZR7, I couldn't get the 'Y' pipe fitted properly and it kept on getting ripped off so I had it dripping onto the rollers and that worked surprisingly well, one adjustment in 10000 miles (with cleaning every month). I prefer shaft but for my ZZR1400 I'll be getting the tutoro, if ever i get around to saving enough for it lol
@ St John Smythe. I had battery issues on my Ghost. Contact Drift they will replace it.
which part does the vacuum have to run off as got a gravity fed Carburretor not a vacuum tap is it still possibly to fit one.

I fitted one to my bike last month, turns out I'd mounted it a bit too close to my chain and after stretching a bit (new chain) it carved a hole in the reservoir! Oops! New reservoir from Scottoiler for £40 (10% off with code V10) and I should be back in business this week! :)

I'm really bad with upkeep and don't really know what to do, do you have a link where I can read when I need to do what? The 6000km services and such I just get it to the dealer but things you are supposed more often that I want to know about. Thanks in before hand :)
When there's already a lot of oil (too much?) on a chain then some oil will get flung off at higher speed. I'm using some other pretty basic chain oiler but with a dual nozzle and that's how it goes for me. I'd guess the Scottoiler is much better at dosaging ^.^ that's why I want to get 1 too.
I'm not that happy with the vSystem on my Versys. It is pretty hard to get the flow rate right and with this random weather it seems my chain is either soaked in oil or dry.
I might try an eSystem as soon I'll be doing 80 miles per day for a while. Problem is they say the dual injector isn't compatible with the Versys, hmm.
I think its probably better it doesn't cover the back wheel?

Having fitted it, how are you finding it now? Does it still mean the chain needs regular cleaning?
Possibly a daft question but I am a new rider and it is Christmas after all... Anyway, if one of these is fitted, would you still wax the chain through winter or would this do the job all year round?

How would you clean chain with scotoiler?
Do you clean as normal chain and don't oil after or do you clean and then oil with same oil?

Yes! But you don't need to buy this very often as a 500ml bottle will do you for around 4000 miles!

When i bought my bike it came with a scottoiler. At first i thought "I'll see if i keep it or not". But i have to say it does its job quite well, i only resently had to use a little extra lube because of the heat. But overall its quite handy, and mine also doesnt leave oil all over the place. At first people warned me that i'd have to be cleaning off lots of excess oil.
My neighbour's Vauxhall Astra must have a Scottoiler fitted... it deposits oil all down his driveway!
Down to seriosity... has anyone tried using CarLube Multi-Purpose Silicone grease on a clean chain? I buy it from ebay and have used it on all sorts of things. It's seriously good stuff - cleaner and greener than most.

The problem I see here is that you are pouring oil over dirt and dust and sand. It is recommended to degrease the chain and clean it completely before you oil it. On the other hand my mechanic was just laughing about the whole system.

Same here. Adding oil to crud really doesn't help.
Same feedback as Kilrathal here: the dripping speed is a pain in the @ss to set when you live in places with a wide temperature range and you end up with a chain that's dripping in oil in the afternoon and still not lubricated in the morning. Plus, the excess of oil never went onto my tire but I sure had the filthiest bike of all of my friends with the vSystem.
Both problems would've been solved with an eSystem but this one is way to expensive for people riding less than 20,000miles/year. =/
They wouldn't refund my 2 x dual oilers even though they were correctly fitted. Perhaps they'll read this now and give my money back. :p

Informative review as always! I think Scottoilers are overrated/ overpriced/ over engineered.. and you are stuck with their oil.. LOOBMAN are the best... cheap as chips and a lot mor efficient. And they have had duel feed for years... :)
