    I LOVE that little cover all with the bird fabric and contrasting band, I also think the fit was far more flattering too! I have that pattern myself and not got around to making it yet, so TFS and have a good weekend! 👍💕

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who is a 5ft 1inch little dumpling I say I'm not fat I'm just poofy. I have trouble with the length of my sleeves it's so annoying to have to keep rolling them up I have just made a shirt blouse and yay! my sleeves fit.and don't get me started on my big bust my daughter has nothing up top and complains all the time I tell how lucky she is at least she can do a side zipper up.
    I love your videos you have a great sense of humour and you are not afraid of taking the micky out of yourself that shows a lady who says take me as I am.
    P.S I think your right about the dungarees

    I love the orange blouse! It looks great, you should just shorten the sleeves, it looks great on you! Love your Simplicity 8172- I’m on my way to town to buy it. You inspire me!!, I’m 72 and want to dress fashionably-that pattern is very flattering-I like to cover my back side and my upper arms but I get so warm in long sleeves. I’m a number one fan-you always make me smile. Thank you Dear Lady ❤️

      Hi Stella, there's absolutely nothing wrong in being a trendy young 72 year old. My mother used to wear chiffon sleeves on her dresses and though they didn't appeal to me then I can now see why she did. I'm like you in that I get too hot with jumpers and cardigans on but don't feel comfortable exposing my bumps and bulges. And of course there are so many beautiful chiffon fabrics that would look great as tops over a sleeveless t shirt.

    Oh Michiline, I’ve paused vlog and jumped in to immediately comment on your Jenny overalls. I really like them, they look fantastic on you, the cropped version is just right you and Michiline times have changed any age can wear anything nowadays. Well that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. I’ll watch the rest of your vlog now. ☺️

    omg! i love the bird one! now i want to make one. though i don't know what i would do with it because I am so cold all the time that i only wear sweaters! even in the summer. Anyway, as to the overalls, i just need to rant. I think it is so sad that we live in a world where people are the object of derision for wearing clothing that makes them happy! why does clothing HAVE to conform to what society says is "flattering"? What if "flattering" is just a superficial idea meant to make us all look alike. I think we need a revolution and we should all just wear what we love, and if that is "unflattering" than we need to change the definition of flattering. What if flattering was something that made your heart sing, put a smile on your face and a spring in your step, not what made our butts look smaller. Ok thanks for letting me rant :) Loved everything! keep up the good work!

    I've had pattern 8172 for quite a while. Finally found fabric I thought would look great. Thanks for all your comments on the fit. Decided to do some alterations to the pattern based on what you said about fit. I added darts for shaping in front, shortened 1/2' on both back pieces so it won't be as long in back. I also widened the sleeve by 2 inchs to give a more kimono sleeve. I used Oly Fun craft fabric which is like stiff interfacing to make the pattern.

    I'm 65 and I just got the Jenny pattern today so I was glad to see your video. I understand your feelings toward the overalls but I think they look great on you - fabric and all. We might be of a certain age but that doesn't mean we can't wear fun clothes. Channel your inner Betsey Johnson!

    • @michoumakes
      @michoumakes  Před 5 lety

      Ah Shelley Thanks for your comments. Wow Betsey Johnson now she's someone I haven't hear much about these days in the UK lately. I still have a kids dungarees pattern I bought 36 years ago. They had a detachable bib with buttons and I made some dungarees for my son and daughter. All their friends parents were so envious back in the day. I felt so proud that I had made something they couldn't buy in the shops.
      I've just checked her website out and she has some great garments. I'm liking a black and pink dress too. Way too much more than I'd pay but it's giving me 'making' ideas.
      Cheers x

    I have the Simplicity pattern on the cutting table right now and plan to start on it tomorrow. I have a wonderful piece of fabric that I got from my mom's house and I'll be combining it with a coordinating fabric I bought on Etsy. I'm excited to make it. Yours is beautiful! I absolutely LOVE that floral denim. It would make a really cute jacket. But I get what you're saying about the dungarees. I know many people love overalls/dungarees and the most important thing is to love what you wear, but they're just too juvenile for me. I'm a grown woman. They look cute on my 12 year old though. To the sizing issue, you had me laughing about the "petite" meaning short and slight not short and .... I'm over 5'9" and my height is in my torso. Even "talls" don't quite fit right. I'm so grateful that I discovered sewing and can make clothes that fit.

    I would never have dared to repeat my clothing choices from the 60's-70's. I had a lot in common with Twiggy in those days. I couldn't put on an ounce of weight and now its the exact opposite. You get points for enthusiasm, nostalgia, and creativity Micheline. I love that fabric too, and was tempted, but couldn't think what I could make for myself. I like the flowered top on you. Love the way it looks from the front, but as you say I think there is too much fullness in the back. I would make the first line drawing with the small ruffle at the back, in a viscose/rayon. Love the bird fabric. So cute. I like the bat wing sleeve very much and have made a couple of bat wing sweaters recently, made with knit fabric and they are very flattering for a larger bust etc. Good find in the charity shop. The shirt looks terrific with the flowered pants. Your hypothesis about longer legs doesn't necessarily work. You and I have similar shape, at a similar age, and I am 5'7" but still busty and wider than I would like. But I have to say, that shirt would fit me properly in the arms. LOL~! I prefer making my own clothes too, so I can hide some of the bumps.

    I’ve been wearing dungers for years. Mainly on my allotment but also elsewhere because I love them and I am in my early seventies now. Had those closures on one pair but they kept pulling undone when I was working. Changed them to sparky buttons. Much better! So pleased that dungarees are in fashion. Plan on making a few pairs, but my idea is to make them so loose I can step in and out of them.... Willow overalls and the Yari jumpsuit are on my list. I definitely think you are not too old for those that you made. Lovely.

    • @michoumakes
      @michoumakes  Před 5 lety

      Willow and Yari are both new to me so I really must look them up. Whoah!!! Had to take a minute to check them out. The Willow overalls are Fantastic. The problem I have with the Jenny (and I do like them but...) is that they are so fitted that they emphasis bumps and bulges. While the Willow ones won't. I like the Yari one too. I did download the marilla walker roberts pattern early this year but haven't quite got round to making that one either.
      The Willow, the Yari and the Roberts are the kind of dungarees that remind me of my dad when he was gardening or fixing his car. That has memory appeal for me.
      Thanks for those suggestions Muriel. I might just give them a try.

    Hi Micheline, what gorgeous denim fabric from Cheryl 💝. Your dungarees are gorgeous and you should wear them if they make you feel happy. They fit you perfectly and I think once you have put the darts in the front they will be great. I would definitely make another pair in a plain fabric, just for curiosity, to see the difference and maybe with a drappier material like a linen viscose. I also think that fabric would be lovely as a denim jacket 👌.Your top with the birds is beautiful and again, fits you perfectly 💞. I think the other one just needed to have some inches off at the waist so the lovely peplum hits you at the right point on your curves 👍. Great vlog Micheline and always inspirational and fun 😁💝😘

    Hey, just noticed how many subscribers you’ve got, congratulations! So cute with suspender clips, even if you change out the clips, you look great. Twiggy was so skinny back then . Will you buy more of this fabric and start over? Yeah, I don’t wear quite the same styles these days, but my color choices have stayed the same. Love the bird top, and the orange! My mom is 4 feet 8 inches with short arms and legs but normal torso length. She has always rolled sleeves and shortened trousers and skirts. We just cope with whatever the Lord gives us.😍

      Hi Janice, my subscribers are increasing aren't they. I have times when I think " what the heck am I doing this for? is it worth it?"
      And then someone sends me a message saying how much they enjoy watching or one of my regulars like yourself show some interest and it makes me think, "come one girl, keep going, they love watching".
      Thank you.

      Ah well us old birds lose inches as we get older I used to be 5ft 2ins now 1in less at least. The dungarees are great for gardening (bossing the flowers.) ditch the zip and go for quick release Velcro. My dungarees were turquoise cord so warm!

      I once used to teach with a classy Deputy Head who was similarly short in height. She used to wear only designer clothes and she wore classy silver coloured metal sleeve garters (the kind men wear) on her sleeves. I alwasys thought she looked trendy using them. ;-)

    Love your vlogs, and know what you mean as a 61 year old you have to get the balance about wearing what you like but not going down the mutton dressed as lamb.i think you are right about a plain colour for Jenny but you look gorgeous in all the others. Just like you I am only 5 3” and slightly on the larger size I should really be 6 foot.

    Oh Micheline, you make me laugh!! You are so funny! But hey you are beautiful as you are! I love the look of that dungaree pattern but havent gone near it because I didnt think it'd be flattering however seeing your make I fell in love! I disagree with your conclusion of it, I thought you looked lovely in it! I've now put it in 'i might try it one day if i can be bothered to grade it' pile! I liked what you did with the back, I couldnt be doing with those straps either! Loved the bird top too, may also try that - you're giving me such good ideas as Im rubbish with knowing what suits so thank you!!

    • @michoumakes
      @michoumakes  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks Claire. I kind of get what some are saying about the dungarees because they are fitted and with fitted there's no hiding anything. I would have preferred that they were less fitted around the back waist as that emphasises the bottom but I might still try a couple of other makes that interest me. After all making these clothes is a bit like a meal out or a trip to the cinema. So I have spent what I would have on a meal, had pleasure in making them and trying them on and probably will move on to the next restaurant (er pattern). Chuckle

      I also have the 'Roberts' Dungarees by Marilla Walker which I have hummed and ha'ad about. i like your 2-45 shirt top. you could always make it into a short sleeved shirt at a latter date. as for the Overalls......i think the make is ok BUT sadly it emphasized everything you don't like about yourself and your shape. i thought the bibtop was to wide for you.. sorry. x. i picked up a pair of elasticated top trousers made out of crappy cheap what feels like a nylon. why buy them you might say. well i liked the shape and the fit. and at 5 euros on the cheap rack is cheaper than buying a patten and the P&P so i bought 2 pears 1 has pockets. i miss not popping into oxfame in the UK there was always something good to be had. Good video as all ways mate. XXX

    I’m really enjoying watching your vlog. I must say, though, that you are much smaller than it seems that you believe you are. I have a large bust, too, and I find that a lot of styles that accommodate my bust tend to make me look larger overall than I actually am.

      When I stand in front of the mirror in some clothes I think "Yay I don;t look that big!" Then I film myself wearing a dress and twirling and I think "Whoah!!! you ARE Big!" I'm actually finding that the straight up and down outfit makes me feel more comfortable. Or when I am wearing something more fitted then a long cardi makes me feel more comfortable. 👍❤

    Shirt sleeves too long.... My sister has short arms also ... So I measure the sleeve as if I were going to make it into a short sleeve, then fold the sleeve and make a seam inside the sleeve to shorten the length...most of the time the seam is not noticeable..
