    #dressmaking #handmade #withme
    In this sew and tell video, I am sharing with you my new trousers I made. The Jenny Pants by Closet Case Patterns. Well, what a mission that was making them, 4 hours to insert a zip! I eventually fathomed it out and really love the style now that they are made. I learned lots of things along the way which is good. My dressmaking journey and sewing projects is taking me on an amazing ride so far.
    Join me in my latest sewing report for chatter, fashion sewing inspiration and my thoughts and issues I had with this pattern. All good fun!

    Wishing you and John well. I hope he is able to get a walker, I have one with a seat that folds up or down. Bless you for continuing to sew your trousers. My best to you all, be safe and be well. Take good care.

    I so appreciate your honesty in the sewing hiccups you went through, I've only been sewing for 11 months and I get frustrated when I have trouble with a pattern and have to unpick everything, thanks for sharing

    Let me just tell you how completely refreshing it is to see a sewing video about the mistakes and struggles you had on this project. As a quilter who is just learning to sew clothing, every video I watch makes me feel like an idiot because they present things as if all steps are so simple... THEY'RE NOT. I'm doing quite well making progress in sewing garments, but still have much to learn. THANK YOU for telling the truth instead of making it all seem like peaches and cream. Your pants turned out just beautifully! They were worth your effort and frustration. When I encounter a project that gives me fits like this one gave you, I'm going to think of you and how nicely your pants turned out so that I don't give up.

    I feel your pain!, 3/4 of the stuff I sew gives me those kind of night mares! I don’t know why I still persevere! I think I’ll steer clear of those pants! You do look great in them! But of course with your nice figure you look great in all your clothes!

    Just found your channel and you are one determined lady! 🤗 I am stubborn too ... erm ... determined! 😂
    About your troubles with the zip: I've learned a neat trick from a tailoress (pattydoo, a german sewing vlog) to make bulky seams behave better. Put a scrap fabric piece over the bulk and hammer it flat. How much force you will need to use depends on the fabric but a denim should take a fair bit of "beating" and you'll find it easier to sew over the bulk. Hope this helps for the next one!🤗
    All the best for you and your husband😘

    Hahaha God what a disaster sounds like me not so much with sewing but last week had to install new printer like you read instructions word for word the computer wouldn't recognise the printer language was thick and fast but 4hrs later installed it so proud of my self. next morning went to print out pattern glanced down at the box the printer came out of, had a completely different to the number to the number on instructions. Looked up the number yes you guessed 5minute installation so I feel your pain. You are so much like me. Haha Cheers Tricia from Australia.

    I'm so glad I found your channel! Your trousers are gorgeous - what a story! I'm in the process of making my first Pietra pants after making a muslin and had to go down a size too.
    I hope your husband is getting better and that you will find a walking aid that will keep him safe. Happy sewing!

    Oh Jayne, we’ve all been there in not always reading the instructions! You are so patient - I would have launched them out the window 🤣🤣But what a great pair of pants! You look so trim and they look bloody gorgeous on you. 😍😍❤️. I am making the Pietra pants - just done a muslin to sort out fit and will be cutting them out tomorrow - if the garden doesn’t win over the sewing machine ❤️ A good basic vest pattern is the Love Notions Summer Basic. Sorry to hear that John is not so good atm, seems like her really does need some additional support re stability. But you are keeping upbeat and that goes a long way ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Wow, we all have garments makes like your trouser. It doesn't stop us making the next garment though, does it! Primark, well, I have never really liked them but less so these days. It bothers me how cheap they sell clothes, I shudder at how much they must be paying the machinists to make the garments. Plus when you look at the fabric, it i very shoddy. Hope that John is coping well. Thank you for doing these videos.

    • @TheDressmakersCloset
      @TheDressmakersCloset  Před 4 lety

      @@TheDressmakersCloset I am still so far behind in watching all these videos. So pleased that John got his walking frame, I am sure that it will put your mind at ease. I have been sewing on and off for about 60 years and have learnt so much in the past 2 years since I found YOuTube than in all the years previously. I just pounded on without really thinking too much about what I was doing and hoped for the best!

  • @mnoeliarc
    @mnoeliarc Před 4 lety

    Your story made me chuckle. Not because I enjoyed you having problems but because those are the typical things I’d do. I often take 2 hours to do something that it’d take 20 minutes to do. I love the trousers and the fit is gorgeous they’re worth the trouble you went through 😊 I wanted to add that I made similar trousers (the Shannon collection by Simple Sew) and I used an invisible zip which I wonder whether it may be easier with the denim. Also the zipper foot of my machine is thinner but i have a 1960s Singer.

    • @TheDressmakersCloset
      @TheDressmakersCloset  Před 4 lety +1

      Oh I never thought of an invisible zip ... I will try that next time 😘

    Aww Jayne what a mare you had with those trousers!! They do look amazing so I'm glad you persevered with them. I'd have been getting so cross. I do have the overalls on my list to make so it was interesting to hear of the woes you experienced, you did make me laugh though.
    So sorry to hear about your husband's fall, I hope he is now on the mend. It's so lovely to hear how upbeat you both are. My husband's the opposite of me spending money on sewing, he just says I'm a spender like my mum lol! However you definitely do deserve that machine 😘. Xx

    Hi Jayne, oh crumbs... I feel your pain 😤...bless you. I say I feel your pain but I haven't made any trousers or jeans yet but I had a similar experience when I made my first closet case Kalle shirt when sewing the covered placket...and there's a sew along for that 😉😁. I'm like you and don't tend to read things properly... I think it goes back to school years as I remember being always told to read the questions in exams property...and I could never do that 😋. Your trousers turned out amazing in the end..no thanks to your lovely cat 😽😹and they look fabulous on you Jayne 💟. You poor thing as well regarding what happened with hubby and hope he's recovering after it 😲. Exciting news about your new machine... I think you deserve one after all that 😉💖😁😘

    That design is so something I’ve never seen, the zip next to a slanted pocket. And sewing into the pocket? No it’s not you, although I’m not saying anything questionable to Helens Closet at all, it’s just in all my sewing, I’ve never seen that particular construction. I have seen side pockets near the side seam, and the waistband itself opening, to let yourself in the pants. It’s all good to know, thanks.
    I did laugh with a memory from a pet relieving himself on my sewing. I was a junior in high school, and sewing my velvet and lace prom dress. My dog came and peed on my left velvet panel. Mom and I had to rush to the store to get more velvet which of course was slightly different, but I had no choice, as I had a habit of sewing new dresses right before the actual event, so definitely a procrastinator! fortunately those dances were dark and no one noticed.
