You and John are very lucky to have found each other and have had such a lovely life together! A real love story. Keep being brave and enjoy every day together - Happy Anniversary â€ïž I so agree that we are able to be what we want and dress how we like in this day and age. It doesnât matter what others think, it only matter that we are happy and comfortable within our own skin!

Loopy Mabel's Closet â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Thank-you for sharing. Everyone has a story, don't they? I am 62 and have come to the same place you are at now. Through sewing I have learned my style and I'm happy with this. I have wasted so many years with negative thoughts about myself it IS liberating to be free of them. I now make clothes in a style I like and that fit me. Take care and thank-you again.
You are a very brave and inspirational woman!
All I can say is you are amazing. Such a beautiful woman and wife.
Blessings Gail.
Thanks so much xx
Hi Jayne, Iâm your sewing sister from South Africa đżđŠ and new subscriber. Thanks for the lovely channel and sharing your journey. Iâm 50, born in Staffs, lived in SA for 45 years. Bye for now đđ»
This video popped up after I watched your current video. How lovely to have watched it. And now i know a bit of your story. I adore your channel! I am 5 years older than you; and can identify with everything say! I too am an avid crochet and knitter. But sewing is my passion. Love your videos!
What an amazing woman. Loved this story and your garden makeover video. I'm a great believer in 'everything for a reason' philosophy. Think I have just found a new friend. Thank you
Aw Fiona thank you so much âșïž xxx
I have just found your You Tube channel Jayne as I love your style and I love sewing and crochet. You are truly inspirational and I am sending you a virtual hug. You sound a wonderful and supportive wife and Mum and love your attitude. So pleased you are taking the little spare time you have to look after yourself and lose weight and take time out to sew and crochet. You are an amazing women. Xx
Ah thank you so much Amanda xx
Aww what a wonderful story and a romantic one at that. I did laugh out loud at the meeting situation at your work where you had to sit top of the table!! I watch vlogs with my earphones in sometimes and my hubby was looking at me strangely đ€Ł. I'm so sorry to hear of John's cancer, I'm sure your positive and happy energy are keeping his spirits up. You have such a lovely attitude to life and it sounds as if you are grasping everyday with both hands, and yes you should absolutely wear what you like. Your Nana's curtains look great đ. Congratulations on your weight loss, you are looking great. I love your style. I just bought some fabric recently to make a Tilly and the Buttons Rosa shirt dress and my hubby said it reminded him of an old fashioned sofa lol. I'm still gonna wear it! Thank you for sharing, it was lovely hearing more about you xx
Lol I canât wait to see your sofa đ and you know if you like it then you wear it and I bet your hubby will love you in it ... so glad to have found you through this sewing circle and I feel like I know you even though weâve never met đ
@@TheDressmakersCloset Ditto, I'm so happy to be part of the sewing circle too, I've made some lovely friends through it, both online and in person.. and you're definitely one of them, so you have got lots of friends...even if we're not seeing you in person đ€đ
My first husband died at 26 of cancer. Sewing was my escape. Jeff was younger than me. My now husband is 12 years younger than me. I am retired now from nursing. So he has built me a sewing shed, I am so lucky, it's my haven too. You are lucky to have a soul mate, age is just a number. I think meeting friends is difficult but you obviously have lots on here!
Hi Janice, oh how sad for you! I totally understand what you are saying about sewing being an escape. It is just a lovely calming place to be when I am sewing and much needed some days when John is not so good. Age is definitely not an issue with us as its just a number as you say. I have met so many lovely sewing friends on here that I feel part of something again! Jayne xxxxx
Hi Jayne, so lovely of you to share your story with us, I always feel a bit reluctant to share my past because people can be quite judgemental (I was married and divorced twice by the age of 26!) but hearing your story is heart warming. I think you are such a warm, caring person as well as a great crochet and sewist and I always look forward to watching your videos, thank you for sharing this special video with us and Happy Anniversary for tomorrow đxx
Hi Helen oh donât worry about your sharing your past it just makes you so interesting and I think most people would love to know more about you ... I would đ€đ
You are so lovely. Thank you for sharing. I thoroughly enjoy your vlogs. Again, thank you.
Been looking at almost all of your videos and just love them and think you are wonderful and so inspiring. Just love your cape Jayne,
Thank you so much đ
Hi Jayne. I enjoyed this getting to know you video sooo much. You are such an inspirational woman. I love your positive, I can face what comes my way , attitude. Sewing truly is the best therapy. Wishing you and John a wonderful day.
Thank you đ
Thanks for being you! Really enjoyed getting to know you! Greetings from Ohio USA
Wonderful story, Jayne. Thank you for sharing with us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for your story! Similar story. I'm 54yrs my husband is 72 we've been married 30yrs! Daughters 29yrs and 25yrs old! We are happily married and for longer than some who gave us a hard time in the beginning. They didn't think we'd last, but, here we are still happily married!đâ€
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I am a carer for my husband and when I stumbled across your channel several months ago, you brought inspiration to me. My spare room has slowly been set up for sewing or a place to be creative; it is now a room where I can retreat to and recharge, in order to face the demanding duties as a carer. It is so refreshing to also hear your encouraging words about 'being yourself' and creating your own style...yay to that!
Hi Eve ... Iâm so glad you can relate to my vlog and like you my sewing and crochet room is just that a place to recharge ... those words ring so true đ
Hi, I love how you smile when you start sharing your story, I can picture the conversation between you, John and your family.
You are so talented, am I just wish I found your site earlier.
Thank you so much!
Thank you, Jane
Jayne Thank You for sharing your beautiful story! What love for one another can endure in a day and age when so many give up. You have created a mindfulness to help you cope & are an inspiration to listen to. I was shocked that you said you have no friends you are such a beautiful soul!! Well I wish I lived near you, non the less I feel a friendship brewing!!
I've been with my wonderful husband for 37 year, we are both in our 60âs. I only learned to crochet in my 50âs and love it!! Went back to sewing just under a year ago when I lost 95 pounds & I thought why not create my own unique style. Itâs such a joy to find kindred spirits!
Oh Mina thatâs so lovely to hear that you too are inspired to create your own wardrobe too ... and well done on your weight loss too ... itâs so nice to chat with you đ
Just found your channel, you are so beautiful and such a lovely person, wish I lived near you. Iâm from Yorkshire but live in Ohio,USA. You are so inspiring,Thankyou xxx
Hi Jayne, Iâve been following your dressmaking for a while but Iâve only just watched this vlog. What a journey you have been on and indeed still are, I notice similarities in our lives. I met and married my manager 21 years ago. He is 8 years older than me, and has had Prostate Cancer and numerous skin cancers. He retired when he had surgery about 10 years ago and now spends his time singing and playing guitar in various bands locally. I had a complete u turn in my mid 40âs and trained to be a nurse, graduating just before my 50th birthday. I discovered my love for sewing last year at the age of 63 and love it. I am also a long time knitter. Sewing has been my lifeline whilst nursing through this pandemic. Iâm hoping to have the courage to vlog about my journey one day. Iâm on Instagram as knit and Stitched.
Stay strong and keep smiling and you are right about doing things that you want to do.
PS I also had a nanna called Mabel. X
Hi Sue, how wonderful your life has been too, all those ups and downs like me but it just makes you stronger and richer in life. I will call and say hello on your instagram account too Jayne x
HI Jayne... I'm late to listen to this but I am so grateful you told your story.
Iâve just found you Jayne, Hi I hope all is well with you, I can totally relate to your lifestyle, I took redundancy last September ( I was planning to retire in April 2021 anyway) we had loads of plans on how to spend our retirement, to see the world, go on adventures, to be free basically, then came Covidâčïž weâve hardly left the house since lockdown 1, but Iâve found peace, relaxation and rekindled my love of crafting and Iâve never been happier, take care Jayne and I will look forward to youâre vlogs, bye
Jayne, what an amazing and very romantic story! I loved listening to you! Youâre a wonderful story teller, I think you are amazing â€ïž
Hi Kristen thank you so much ... isnât this social sewing and crafting community fab ... Me in the UK đŹđ§ and you thousands of miles away in Australia đŠđș isnât it amazing đ§”đ
Thank you for sharing your story and talents. I am enjoying getting to know you.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your story, youâre an inspiration in so many ways x
Thank you so much!
Hi . Have only just come across your videos . Started to crochet about 6 months before lockdown and went to a night crochet class at a local yarn shop but have recently gone back to my sewing machine because of pain in my fingers when I crochet. I looked around on CZcams for sewing videos and yours popped up and Iâm now hooked as your style is so pretty. I can honestly say I spent most of yesterday and today catching up on your past videos which are great . Iâve only just subscribed to your crochet channel as only just thought to check it out . Thank you for sharing , all your knowledge and also letting us into the background of your life . I know Iâm late commenting on this video but just had to say thank you x
Hi Jayne, I am so happy I found your vlog. I can relate to a lot of to what you said. I also am a crafty person, have always knitted ,sewed, crochetted and other things as well. I also am my husband's full time carer. I am very impressed with the top made from one metre of fabric, love the style. By the way.... Kristen from The Dahlia Sew-ciety is not very far me....:))
Beautiful and fascinating life story! Women are so amazing and strong! You are definitely one. In heritage American Indian lore you would be referred to as She, Who Runs With Wolves. âźïžâźïžâźïž
Thank you đ
I am new to your channel. I have to tell you that I have absolutely loved watching your videos. Thank you for the great inspiration! You are one of my recent favorites.â€
Thank you for sharing your story Jayne. Lovely to meet you. Love your style, love what you make. Just ordered a dress from you!
It was lovely getting to know you a bit better. Thank you for sharing. My husband is 8 years older and we've been married for nearly 30 years. The age difference was never an issue until the last couple years when age (getting older) has caught up with us more than before. Sometimes I do get worrisome because I will likely be alone at the end of my life and like you, due to life circumstances; I have no friends. I'm so happy that you are doing what brings you joy. Joy really does help us through the rough times. Sending you lots of positive thoughts, virtual hugs and appreciation for your hard work on this channel.
Ah your words are so lovely and it's so nice to chat with you too! Joy really is a wonderful word and sewing really does bring me so much joy especially whilst John is resting. Just taking one day at a time and enjoying every moment. Jayne x
Hi Jayne. I donât normally comment but I just wanted to say what a beautiful love story between you and your husband. Yes, 20 years is a big gap but love never decides logically. It just hits you and thereâs not a lot you can do about it. Iâm from Spain but have been living in England for the past 22 years as my husband is English. Thanks for sharing your lovely story with us and I would like to say that I totally agree with you about getting to the point where you donât care about what people think. I love what youâre wearing and itâs nice that it has a sentimental value to it to. Also well done on your weight loss. You look really good on it.
Hi Noelia, thank you so much and lovely to chat with you. Jayne xxxxx
I really appreciate your candour here. Your story and how you tell it is so inspiring. Thank you.
Thank you so much Jayne x
love your attitude! I also love wearing clothes made of old curtains or old duvet covers. Upcycling đ
Ps, Apologies for all the separate comments, lol..but I comment during the video, at various parts, otherwise Iâd forget if I had to do it all at the end đ€Šđœââïžđ. I was looking at the fabric you were wearing before you mentioned it and I thought it looked beautiful-wondering where you would have bought it from. Itâs beautiful and your Nan would be so proud x
Hi Jayne. What a lovely half hour Iâve spent with you, my drink is camomile tea đ” as Iâm watching in bed. Thank you so much for counting me as your friend. Like you, Instagram has given me a new lease of life. You inspire me in my dressmaking journey, as does my daughter Tamlyn and other lovely Instagram friends. Love gets us through, no matter how difficult things are. Happy Anniversary tomorrow. It was great spending time with you. God bless đđđ»
Hi Lynne thank you so much itâs been so lovely to get to know you over these past few months ... we really do have an amazing sewing community donât we đ
I love the fabric.
Thank you Jayne for sharing your story. So inspiring I have also had two loved ones who had cancer one I lost, my husbands treatment was successful thank goodness. It does change your attitude about life loving every day you have them.
Keep sewing and crocheting, it helps to keep us sane! đ
Hi Lynette, thank you and I certainly will, keeping sane one day at a time lol Jayne xxxxx
I have just found your channel and you are such an inspiration on so many levels.
â€Stay strong! I'm sorry for you and your husband that you're going through this pain! â€
Hi Jayne. I'm not one of your sewing friends but I guess it's ok if I comment! First of all, happy anniversary tomorrow! I loved listening to your story. I'd love to be able to sit and have coffee with you. I think we'd have a great time. We're the same age. I also have three children. My sister's husband was also twenty years older than her. We never thought twice about it! You are bravely taking care of your husband every day đȘ. Three years ago I was diagnosed and treated for colon cancer so if you ever want to chat I'm here for you. You have a wonderful attitude about life. Don't think you don't have any friends! We're your friends! I think social media friends can be just as important! I don't have real life friends that I see either. Thank you for sharing yourself with us. It's like getting to know a friend đđâ€â€
Hi Trish I still class you as a friend and a lovely supporter of my channel from the beginning youâve always left such lovely comments and Iâve loved getting to chat with you over the last year .... and I know how much you have been through too ... it just makes us stronger and even by just talking with each other is such a great comfort ... thank you Trish đđ
Love your style. You always look amazing đ đ â€ïž Lovely to hear your story. Love your vlogs. They really cheer me up since I became too ill to work in my mid forties. Your Vlogs brighten the day and inspired to start sewing again if well enough in the future. Used to do it but life is rest and physio for the past couple years hoping will get energy to do some myself but in meantime enjoy seeing what you are up to. Thanks đ
Hi Louise âŠ. thank you so much for your lovely comments âŠ. rest is important when you need to recover ⊠you will be able to do all those things when you know the times right xxx
@@TheDressmakersCloset Thanks that's so true đđ
I'm so glad you decided to post this vlog! I enjoyed hearing your wonderful love story, about your custom's officer career (my mind still can't quite get itself wrapped around the idea that you like the confrontational nature of that important job), your weight loss journey, and your philosophy about dealing with life's difficult challenges. Your attitude really resonated with me and has given me something really positive to mull over today. Thank you!
P.S. I think people think you are John's daughter, because you look so young! I'm 3 years your senior and my complexion isn't nearly as youthful as yours!
Hi Alecia, thank you so much. I know it's hard to think that I used to have such a crazy job too! It's a million years away from now, but that's how life takes you and I am just embracing every day whatever it brings. Thank you for your kind words on my complexion, I have used Nivea cream on my face every day and night since I was a teenager, I should have shares in the company LOL. Not sure if that's the reason but I love it so much! Jayne x
I loved this history of you, thank you so much for sharing it! Yes, you have definitely hit the "eff-it-all 50s" :)
Yes, glad to meet you Loopy Mabel. Have just discovered the channel. And isn't it amazing - it's like you hit 50 and overnight you don't give a fig what others think!
Very brave of you to share your story with us. Great attitude very inspiring. Bless you
I love your style! It is elegant and simple.
Thank you so much đ
@@TheDressmakersCloset You're welcome dear. Many blessings your way.
So nice to hear your story. I have twins as well, ours are boy/girl. They will turn 20 this may, we are the same age, lol.
What a wonderful story and what an amazing person you are. Love truly conquers all. I also married my manager who was my senior...but by just over 10 years. We managed to keep it quiet until we announced our wedding day...so it came as a bit of a surprise to his secretary! Hubby also had serious illness when he hit 60 / retired...though recovered now.
Hi and so lovely to chat with you, isn't life strange how we meet and fall in love and age just doesn't come into it. If its meant to be then happiness follows. Speak soon Jayne xxxxx
Thank you for sharing your story. I am glad you enjoy crochet, sewing and of course CZcams and it has opened a new world to you. We love your vlogs đ
Thank you Alison đ
You have a wonderful attitude and I love your story, thank you for sharing.â€ïž
Thank you so much!
I started watching your channel because I love sewing, knitting and crochet and donât really have friends who do these things. This episode was very special though, what a wonderful love story and what an amazing lady you are.
Thank you so much Susan xxxxx
What a great story. All those people who gossiped have been silenced by your successful marriage. My parents were both older, 45 and 40, when I was born so I relate to the comments. Is there a sewing, knitting group near you that you may be able to join? My friend moved to an area where she didn't know anyone and put a notice in the local shops she now has a group meeting in her house once a week. I went to weight watchers 3 years ago and lost 18kg I have maintained it since, keeping it off is harder than losing it đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł it must be the 50s I got the "don't give a shit" attitude then. Lovely to learn more about you.xx
Hi yes it must be the fifties thing lol đ
Enjoy Coffee with me and keep the channels coming, your such an inspiration, Iâve manage 2 pinafores and a blouse and being a complete beginner to sewing Iâm really chuffed :))))
Thank you for sharing your story Jayne, really enjoyed getting to know you, your an inspiration. I love listening to your vlogs.xx
Lovely to hear your story. I am the same age as you and I am certainly more confident, but will be even better if I lost some weight so you have inspired me to get back to SW. Also, there is a lot more clothes in the charity shop that you can refashion when you are smaller! I am also going to do the no new clothes pledge as I am already a charity shop aholic and now want to get back into sewing - which I last did at school! I also love to make do and mend and have got to be a demon darner. PS - how did you patch the sheets? I have a few holey ones which Iâd hate to go for rags! All the best with your husbands health, Louise
Thank you for sharing your story. Feel encourage in the unexpected life change we are going through. In our case itâs my own health throwing a spanner in the works. Iâm of same age as you, also happily married to older husband. My dress style is quite different from yours, but with the same underlying attitude of wear what you like, be who you are. đ
Well done Jayne, keep strong.
Thanks for this lovely vlog. I am new here, have been a crochet subscriber for a while and this came up in my notifications so I clicked on and am so glad I did. I don't have any friends near me either but when you listen to people chatting in their living/craft room then you're there with them really aren't you? Congratulations to you and John on your anniversary and I wish you both all the very best xXx
Hi Sarah thank you for joining me here on my dressmaking channel too ... itâs so lovely to chat with you đ
I thoroughly enjoyed this vlog and getting to know you. I too am a homebody and donât have any friends either. Of course I see my son and daughter every day and my granddaughter who I take care of during the day but I am very much a homebody and enjoy my sewing time. Itâs nice to know someone out there feels the same. And thanks for the weight loss encouragement because I really need it and I think it helped.
Hi Sandy thanks for your lovely comments and itâs lovely to talk with you too. Itâs so good to know that we are not alone and this community is so wonderful đ
Great to hear your story. I used to work for the same employer (my husband still does).. until I had my baby and then I didnât return after my career break-I started my own business instead. Oh, your Victorian home sounds like the ideal homeâŠbut you have to put your husbandâs needs first x
Thank you for your lovely comments xx
Hi Jayne, Iâm a new subs and can honestly say what a breath of fresh air you are, I love sewing and crochet too although Iâm not very good at following a pattern, so I will subscribe to your crochet channel too. You are the same age as my Daughter and she has the same hobbies as me so youâll probably get yet another subscriber when I see her.đđ off now to catch up on the rest of your videos. x
Thank you so much!
Nice to meet youđ
What a honest Awsome vlog
You are a special person đ
Thank you đ
What a lovely story Jayne. I could resonate with quite a bit of it, so youâve really touched my heart. Thank you for sharing. Keep doing what you love. đș

Hi Carol and thank you so much x
How sweetđ
Hi Jayne, from Texas đ I'm a new subscriber.
So glad to have found your channel. I'm new to crocheting and sewing. Now that most of my kids are grown I'm trying to find my hobbies. It was very nice to get to know you over a cup of coffee. Thank you for sharing â€
Hi Kelly, hello to you in Texas and so lovely to meet you too! Jayne x
Hey Friend! Thank you for sharing some of your story. Excellent book on cancer: Chris Beat Cancer. Much love to you from Connecticut, USA đ»
Thank you so much đ
Who would have ever guessed what you did in your past!! Quite a gal!!! I so appreciated hearing about you taking care of your husband! Not many women would do that, even if our wedding vows say, in sickness and health!! Love your vlog!!!!
I loved listening to this vlog, love and hugs to you. I know what you mean about being 50 you certainly do have a different outlook on life. Xxxx
So lovely, Jane... thank you for sharing some of your story! I'm 52 and love my age and the liberty I feel more and more as I shed so many ridiculous and self defeating thoughts. And you have inspired me with your very real and unapologetic expression! Love sewing too and recently learned to crochet granny squares from Jayda in Stitches on utube.
What a lovely video - I just discovered you today!! You know have a British friend in Nashville, Tennessee! I have been here 23 years in August. So glad you have an outlet for your creativity - caregiving is not for the faint of heart even when it is someone you love dearly. I will keep you in my prayers. Blessings and love, Melanie
I am so thankful for you. I know that everyone who knows you personally is as well. But, your straightforwardness and sweetness is a rare and precious gift. And, I love Nana's curtains as a blouse...what a sweet tribute. Sometimes I think (or maybe it is I hope) those old things we hold onto have absorbed a bit of the spirit of those we have loved and have been loved by.
Oh yes Tanya that is so true. I love wearing this blouse made from my Nana's old curtains as I feel her presence every time I wear it. So lovely to meet you Tanya! Jayne x
New subbie here. Hello from Oz! Thanks for this vlog, it made me feel as if I'm not alone. Sending best wishes to you and John, and hope he's doing as well as he can do.
Thank you so much!!
Love learning more about you, thanks for sharing
Thank you đ
What an encouraging life story!!! Sewing and crotchet are both so therapeutic. Thanks for sharing Jayne, I truly appreciate it đđđ
Thank you so much đ
I am new to your channel and find that we have very similar likes. Thank you for opening up your life and sharing your life story. I am sorry to hear that life has brought you and your husband challenges as of late but your positive attitude will certainly help you to rise above those. I am a little older than my husband (4 years) but he is my best friend and while we do have a fair number of outside friends we feel most comfortable and at ease with each other. I have returned to knitting and sewing in my retirement after 30 years of public service. I enjoy this new community I have found online that helps me with this journey. While you may not have any friends in your physical community, it is very evident that you have many friends in the virtual community. Keep positive and I look forward to watching your new postings. Hi Brenda, thank you so much for your lovely comments. I feel so much part of this wonderful sewing community it's a great feeling. Everyone is just so warm and friendly! Jayne x
Thanks for sharing your story Jane. I've only recently come to your channel through Kristen in Melbourne and love what you make and your lovely down to earth approach. You say you have no friends but I'm sure many of your viewers would agree with me when I say that you have a whole community of friends who look forward to your vlogs x
Hi Gina .... ah thank you so much thatâs really lovely of you to say .... and so glad you found me .... I love Kristenâs channel đ

Hi Sharon, my stitchy friend too .... even though we haven't met I feel like we've known each other for ages. It's so lovely getting to know you too! Speak soon Jayne x
What a terrific video. Thank you so much for sharing with us. I often think that we viewers are on more personal terms with vlogers than the other way round. Let me explain, I watch you usually on my lap top with my earphones, so we are on one to one, but you know nothing of your audience but we do, and I understand that you do not want to let all and sundry into your life. It was great that you felt that you could let us into your life. I do feel that I know you, to a certain extent. I will watch through different eyes, those of a friend. You and your husband have proved all the doubters wrong. Two people fall in love, age has nothing to do with it! My love goes to you, your husband and your family. Thank you for doing these vlogs, I look forward to the next one. I am always late watching them,I never seem able to catch up!
Hi Christine, thank you for your lovely words. I am so glad that you feel you know me a bit better, I wanted to share more about me with you all just as if we were having a coffee in a cafe! Just like minded women with a love for sewing and enjoying life! Jayne x

Jayne, what a lovely vlog - I have enjoyed learning more about you and I can relate to so much of what you say about your own body image and how you donât have many friends close by. Iâm so sorry your hubby has cancer but you are both obviously very caring towards each other (love your story of how you met and the boardroom showdown!) and you will get through it. Wish I lived nearer so we could have a coffee in real life đ
Oh me too that would be lovely ... itâs so nice to chat with you đ
Hi Jayne what a really lovely story I watch your CZcams channel and absolutely love every think you make. Take care Kim đ
Thanks so much Kim đ
Also, as an adult it isnât easy making friends, thatâs just how it is! We need to say that more, be honest with the world itâs not.
Xx
