Many cops (not all though) will actually let you off with a warning if you admit what you did. Like speeding (unless what you did was actually dangerous).
Akmost all of the time the cop already knows what you did, so it is certainly no help to lie and little help to pretend you do not know. I know several cops, mostly when they ask they just want you to be honest and they will be nice to you.

@@DanielSvensson666 Man, nah. They can tell me why they pulled me over. I'm not gonna try to guess "maybe I was speeding" because now that puts me at fault and maybe he didn't catch me speeding, but I just admitted to it. Idk how someone would lie when getting asked "do you know why I pulled you over?" Unless it's a joke response like "because you wanted to get my number." Also, when a cop asks "where are you coming from"/ "where are you going" ask them why they need to know that. They have no right or business asking that unless you happen to meet a description of someone that has a BOLO out on them. Other than that, they're just trying to get you to admit something they can possibly ticket you for. Cops don't protect, all they serve is their own shit idea of "justice".

Right? Though, I presume that the censored word in the first story is cripple.
      /ˈkripəl/
verb: cripple; 3rd person present: cripples; past tense: crippled; past participle: crippled; gerund or present participle: crippling
cause (someone) to become unable to walk or move properly.
"a young student was crippled for life"
      "Is crippling a bad word?"
"That said, utilizing the word "crippling" to describe dysphoria isn't out of line at all. It just means that the person is saying it impairs their ability to function healthily/normally. It is not offensive, nor a slur (such as if you are labeling someone "a cripple")."
(As of 2016, anyway, everything is offensive nowadays.)

      @thatcrimsonrose8402 Pƙed 3 lety +48

      @@robohand
It's not necessarily a bad word, it depends on the context. For instance, if someone is crippled, it means they may have certain difficulty moving due to an illness or maybe they got a limb removed.
However, using a term like 'fucking crippled' it is offensive, always depends on how you're directing it to the person (intentions) and adjectives used.

Kudos to King Sejong for inventing an alphabet which makes sense, though! My teachers told me, "the letters are shaped to resemble how the mouth is formed when pronouncing the letters." Genius! So much easier than learning English. ("f" or "ph"? Ugh.)

  • @Shikaschima
    @Shikaschima Pƙed 3 lety +17

    You know, why not.
When I was 16, I was caught stealing in a retailer chain and thus required to do some public service for a set amount of hours. I had the choice of several different things, but I chose the local animal shelter since it sat right with me to actually do something that benefits animals and I knew that the cleaning of the local park was a total bitch to do in 40°C during the summer, so it was definitely the right choice. What wasn't the right choice was, that I didn't tell the employee's that I had Aspergers.
Thus, when I was asked to clean the kennels, I made sure to actually clean them throughout and thorough, spending several minutes per kennel before one of the employees came up to me and - without even asking why I took *way too long for this simple work* - started screaming and complaining about me not being finished yet. The kennels were clean. There were spots of blood and urine that had probably been there for ages and were now gone after I was finished with them, simply because I decided to kneel down and scrub harder and actually clean the pens to *clean* them, not to just push away a bit of dust and leftover dogfood.
So, I stopped doing that. Next time I had a problem? I cleaned the wild cat shelter on the outside. The problem was that it was terribly constructed and only accessible from one way which I only noticed after cleaning all of it. Shit happens, just gotta clean after me so the dirt of my boots wouldn't be leftover. Again, I was taking longer than the same employee liked. Again, screaming. Again, being mad at a person that was *literally* doing what was asked of them.
At this point, I was already quite distressed. I was here to do some public service to get out of my problematic stance with the state, but the environment I was doing it in was incredibly hostile because of a single person who thought he was the boss. I didn't do the cat shelter afterward, but the next time I had to do a task and took longer than he wanted me to, he just exploded. And I did too. I cried because I was literally doing what was asked of me and basically just went back to the kennels, doing them while hard crying while the rest of the employees was taking their break. That was when the owner of the animal shelter came to check up on me and approached me regarding "Not counting the hours since I didn't do the work properly."
I lost it. I screamed, entirely in tears, hiccuping words left and right as I explained that I explicitly did do what had been asked of me and no one had actually told me how they *wanted* it to be done, aside from screaming at me for taking too long. At this point, the owner was taken aback. From what she had heard, I had been lazy and not doing what I was supposed to do here, just dwindling my thumbs and hoping for the time to pass. Well, that was until I showed her the spots that had had leftover blood in them just a few days prior because of a dog having a nasty wound apparently ages ago, which I only knew because I asked one of the other employees - basically the only one who was actually nice around the place and not "neutral at best" -, and could literally show her that the dried and sunk in blood was gone. I told her about me having Aspergers and needing more direct instructions which I couldn't ask anyone for without being groaned at or told "Just grab the cleaner and go through the kennel, it is not that hard." - which I admit it really wasn't but tell that to someone who doesn't know what you specifically mean by that small innocent command. I also told her that I did try to explain myself multiple times to the person screaming at me and never getting a word in while being talked against a wall and that I was pretty scared about not actually getting the hours in as by now the first week of the holidays I did this in was basically over and there were only 5 days left to go, which had nowhere near enough hours to actually finish the service hour amount. I only had this one chance or else I would come into a massive amount of conflict with my school which was not likely to accept "I stole from a convenience store and need to pay off hours" as a valid reason for taking sick leave for a few days.
At this point, she basically told me "Don't worry about it" and went on her way up to the front while I calmed down and continued the work on the dog pens.
The same employee that had screamed at me came up back about an hour later, apologized, and basically told me to not ask him for any more tasks but approach the other people at the shelter regarding other jobs. Turns out, the owner had basically told him off. This wasn't the first time that this happened and it wasn't the first time that he had simply given a task without an explanation as to how it was supposed to be done either. The last week I worked there, I worked hard, fixing a few things that needed fixing, taking care of basically all the everyday tasks that could be done - and didn't include feeding the animals aside from the wild cats which was little less than "throw sack of dry cat food into giant bowl in room" - and got along with basically everyone in the shelter quite well.
When my grandmother and I returned to the shelter this summer to get a cat for her - he is 9 years old, called Titus and is one of the most active older cats I have ever seen in my life - I met the same employees as I had when I worked there *minus* the one who kept shouting at me. When I asked about him, one of the people simply said that he was fired for "taking over a business that wasn't his" in the shelter. I don't really feel sorry for him, to be honest. I should have mentioned my Aspergers, but it hadn't been fully diagnosed back then yet and was only said as an "I assume I have Aspergers as all the symptoms fit for me" to ease the burden of social conversation and troubles I would receive with others.

The story about the music show in Korea reminds me of a story my mom told me once. This was a few years ago. My mom is Chinese-Indonesian, and she, her sister, and my cousin (her niece) were at an ice cream shop. My mom was catching up with her sister in Bahasa (their native language) while my cousin was looking for a seat. A lady who was standing behind them was complaining loudly behind their backs saying stuff like "Ugh, why the hell are they in America if they can't speak English? They should just go back to China!" My aunt decided she was going to sit with my cousin, so she was walking away when my mom decided she was going to be petty. My mom then proceeded to rattle off in perfect English all of their orders and she had a long conversation with the cashier about different flavors, toppings, the weather, whatever came to mind. When she grabbed her order, she made eye contact with the lady, who was now very red in the face. She said to her " Next time you want to talk crap about people speaking other languages, make sure they can't understand you first."

My car isn't pink. It's blue. And I'm on the other side of the continent from Georgia. Or on a different continent, depending on which Georgia you're thinking of. I've gotten three cops to be at a loss for words, and one to bust out laughing and let me go without even a warning. All four of them pulled me over for speeding, mostly when I was clocked going ~2 mph over the speed limit, one of the three who told me why I got pulled over didn't say what he clocked me at, but it couldn't have been higher than 5 *below*, as I was going 15 in a 25 due to it being halloween night in a residential area.

Just as a counter to what r/ said about saying "I don't know" to the police when they pull you over. They deal with this shit every day, all day. They've heard it all. So yeah, by saying speeding, you might get fined, for a good reason, but by owning up and generally being apologetic and generally a nice person, they might let you off the hook.
When I say getting fined for a good reason think of this: going 10 km over the speed limit doesn't seem like a big deal, but it might just mean the difference between, stopping and not stopping in time. At best the only things that'll be hurt is a car or two, and only lightly. At worst, people die. Horribly, in pain.
And if you're now thinking that 9/10 nothing happens or it's never happened to me, remember that drunk drivers think the same way. And we don't wear seatbelts for the nine times things don't happen, but the 10th time or even the 1000th time where things go wrong.
So if you ever run late, and know that if you just press on that padel and drive a little bit faster, just a little bit, so you can make it in time, ask your self this. Is that really worth someone's life?

About the cop asking you that question, I have a story from a friend of my parents who is a cop. Once, he did that on a random dude. He just wanted to mess with him because he was bored, but when he came to this dude window, dude was sweating bullets. He asked him if he knew why he was arrested. Dude immediatly started to panic, saying how it wasn't his fault and how it was his friend who asked him to stole his car so he could fraud the assurance. My parent's friend stayed calm, acted like it was exactly why he arrested him, bring him to the station and patiently waited for the other guy to come in and say that his car was stolen.
EDIT : Note that neither me or my parents approuve of his action and cop was fired for an other abuse of power. Friend is also a big word to describe his relation to my parents, I never even meet the guy. Sorry, just wanted to clear that up.

ok but like, do you not see fucked up side of this, that your parent's friend was able to just pull someone over specifically to fuck with them? is that not just a waste of time for the person being pulled over and a waste of taxpayer money going to someone on a power trip treating the time and lives of others as entertainment? sure, they caught a guy committing fraud, but schemes like that almost always fail later due to insurance hating to pay out and going through with a thorough investigation, and if he did that once he would absolutely do it more and more, wasting the time of innocent people and terrifying them for no reason other than his own boredom. the fact that not only can he get away with that but can get away with bragging about it is fucked up and exactly why so many people believe that our police system does not protect the people of this country, because cops like him would rather fuck with people than doing their job of patrolling the streets for anyone actually doing anything to hurt or endanger others

First, this story didn't take place in the united-states nor anyone involved was american, if it can help you feel better about that. Secondly and more importantly, I want to apologize because this story could indeed let stranger like you believe that I somehow approved of what he did. I just wanted to retell the only story what RSlash said remind me of, but I could also have told that time when said friend (who was more the boyfriend of my parent's friend at the time, but that would have became complicated, see) insulted a lady in a protest to the sole purpose of making her hit him so he could have a reason to arrest her. But he was filmed this time so he lost his job. I don't approuve either of mentioned action and never ever meet the guy in real life. My parents also don't approuve of it or told me that story in that light. It was just an exemple of what can happen and also a proof that what RSlash said is true so people would be cautious. My intention was never to hurt anyone and I'm deeply sorry for doing so. And I hope you'll also forgive any spelling errors because, like I said, I'm not american and english is not my first langage.

I need everything completely dark. Cheap and easy fix is a sleeping mask. Mine is cute and pink and fuzzy and i can finally fucking sleep. I had the same problem with a neighbor of an expensive house I bought. She had the big flood lights shining on what was basically more of my property than her property. In two of the bedrooms. Both bathrooms, kitchen, and so bright on my deck that you really couldn't see my nice yard. Try to work it out with her but she refused. I had noticed that she had recently had her driveway replaced with expensive pavers. It looked like it encroached on my property. I hired a surveyor. He brought his little granddaughter to help hold the reflector stick or whatever. My neighbor called the police on them for setting foot over the line onto her property. We worked that part of it out but it soon became a war as I demanded those lights be turned off or she remove her driveway from my property. It was about 1 foot by 70 feet. Then it became a lawsuit. It dragged on for 18 months. My lawyer screwed something up so I ended up having to settle by paying for the flood lights to be replaced with lower well-aimed carriage lights and new electrical service to her garage. No real prorevenge here but I was able to enjoy my property for 10 years and with the improvements I made on the house and the fact that it wasn't ruined by that horrible mercury vapor lamp I had a very attractive house to sell for double what I paid. The other neighbors were very happy that their houses were now worth more than before because of how comps work in real estate. I heard from another neighbor that my neighbor was very unhappy that her property taxes went up because of the sale of my house.

Second story: There's bad apples in every line of work, but the arrogant, disrespectful and selfish newcomers are the worst. Sadly, I am working with one of those kind of people, and I'm amazed that he hasn't been terminated from the company yet.
Fourth story: So many people have been proven wrong in thinking that Spanish is an uncommonly practiced language, and here we have a Latina putting a Korean girl in her place...
Fifth story: You can't negotiate with a selfish coward. Best thing is to subtly inconvenience them to the point where they just do what you want them to.
