    I'm an aircraft mechanic, and on carbureted aircraft we have carb heat from the exhaust manifold by pulling a switch. We test this every time before take off. On run-up before takeoff we switch from cool air to hot air and the back to cool. At 1800 rpm when we switch to hot air the rpm drops to 1700. We look for this drop to know that it's working. That's a good bit of power you lose. The science behind it is cool air is more dense than hot air, and more dense air has more oxygen and that's the stuff we want.

    I think I’ll go with the HSP kit but with a Banks cold air intake with the Ram air Super scoop. Banks intake is similar to stock as far as a completely enclosed box but with better air flow. And it’s made of plastic which stays cooler. Anyone can take 2 plates of metal and make an L shaped “Heat shield”.

I just ordered the HSP hot side (drivers side) pipe for my 1st step and 1st mod to the truck. (The truck is 100% stock) I chose the hot side 1st mostly because it looks like the easiest 1st step. Just cut a hole in your stock box and take the passenger side headlight out if you want a huge improvement in your intake temps. Otherwise you’re just spending $400 for pretty parts. When it comes to the fab company’s HSP’s two piece ybridge is a lot easier to install over the wherli 1 piece, however, WC Fab has better customer service and shipping times. I had to wait 7 months for my HSP kit to come in the mail and was given the run around every time I contacted them. That being said I did order their intake, but that was knowing it was purely for aesthetic reasons.

    • @therealtrucker7564

      HSP Diesel definitely not knocking the product or quality in any way. It would’ve been nice to know up front that I was going to have to wait for my parts and I would’ve been just fine. I spent a great deal of time researching between you guys, WC Fab, SDP, and pusher before putting my order in. One thing I would’ve liked is the option to add ybridge gaskets. I ordered a set online but they were the wrong size so I had to wait for the right ones to come in another week before installing.

    how does the HSP CAI compare to the banks CAI? Is HSP actually pulling "cold" air

  • @chrisao1987
    @chrisao1987 Před 4 lety +1

    At least the HSP has a heat shield. Not a fan of either. Honestly, i like the AFE washable filter that fits right into the stock box. That's what I did and it made a big difference for my truck. The WCFAB is not protected at all, it can get water sucked in from underneath, and it pulls hot air from the engine. However, I'm not a tune guy, I don't like tuners. I use my truck to tow, so it's not a show truck. For me why spend $300+ for a intake when I already have the piping I just need the filter. I purchased the AFE dry filter for $70 and my truck breaths a lot better, climbs hills with very little to no smoke, I get better fuel mileage, and it allows the turbo to spool quicker which I can hear out the exhaust. I achieved all those things for less than $80.

    • @GFY..-..
      @GFY..-.. Před 4 lety

      From what I believe is WCFabs piping is angled differently then HSP due to the fact that HSP has the box and WCFab doesn’t so they’re allowed to just run the filter at essentially a 45 degree angle then HSP doing a 90 degree into the box.

      @GFY..-.. Před 4 lety +1

      Ben Buttars honestly I wouldn’t be that worried about it. When you look at the pros who drag their trucks with no filters or piping and just mesh screens how much are you really gaining by sealing off the filter box that much? I almost think it would be a little more restrictive compared to an open filter hence why pros typically run right off the inlet of the turbo.
      I run the HSP but without the cover on top I mean if your towing for long distances maybe a seal box to keep the heat out but I think it’s a apples to apples comparison.

      No. I have an LML with Ez Lynk also and am running the HSP intake and in no way would you need a retune for the bigger diameter intake. Your essentially just allowing more air and your turbo if stock will only take as much as it can which eventually will be your limiting factor

    I just installed a stage 2 WC bundle on my lbz and I was pretty disappointed, first of all $1,600 + is a decent amount for a Name, poor shipping time , yes was custom powder coat but almost 2 months... fitment sucks, air inlet is good but the 2 piece y -bridge didn't clear fuel lines or the coolant hard line to the fire wall had to bend them and leave some bolts out, same tiwisted anlge on the hot side charge pipe, rubs power steering lines and not allighned with the turbo very well. welds were not visually satisfying either . 20 degrees difference at "Idle", is a terrible point to compare. The temperature difference will matter when you are moving not at idle. So, why compare temps at idle? Just curious, not looking to argue at all (fyi)

    • @kalenpeters8658
      @kalenpeters8658 Před 3 lety +1

      Exactly, when you're moving, all that fresh air running through your grille is pushing the hot air back, you're still getting a great amount of air through the fender like it was originally designed. Of course when you're stopped it'll be hotter, put your hand on that air box after a long trip, its hot too. And by the time it makes it into the combustion chamber, I cant see much of a difference being made. I love it how hsp's website says every 1 degree in intake air temp, loses 3 hp, so where im from, it was +40°c yesterday, and 6 months ago, it was -40°c, 80°c difference between seasons, and hsp is american, so thats a 144°f difference, x 3hp, 432hp loss between seasons? Lmao, thats negative hp on a stock truck 😂, even say a 3rd of that cuz your intake air temp wont be the same as ambient all the time, 100hp loss, it doesnt work that way lol. Id like to see someone take the same truck, dyno it, and monitor egt's on the same stretch of road, with the same trailer on etc, etc, with the wehrli kit, and the hsp kit, and then show me a difference, and not with the hsp guy or wehrli guy running the computer 😂

    For every 20゚ cooler it's 15 more horsepower.

    All this info is opinion without running it on a dyno to verify. Of course the manufacture of a heat shield setup is going to defend his product by saying the non-shield is bad.

      I'd definitely like to see the comparison between the metal box vs plastic box. I've always heard the black plastic actually dissipates heat better.

    I get the idea of what the HSP guy is saying and I don’t think I’m wrong but essentially what he said is colder air = better, how much better? I can’t tell you. We collect all the data we can and we let the data do the talking. Then presents 0 data.
    He literally presented no evidence for the claim and said take my word for it because we’ve done the research.
    Again they are right, but provide some evidence to back it up.
