When I purchased my '17 GMC Canyon SLE new many years ago I didn't like the engine hesitation. Manufacturers restrict engines so much with their lame intake setups and inferior stock exhaust systems. Installed K&N air intake and that install alone did make a difference. Coupled with a dual catback exhaust upgrade it gained around 30HP and eliminated the hesitation/stall when accelerating to higher speeds. Well worth the investment and were both easy installs even though I had never installed either system like those before.
My brother in Christ, you did not pick up 30 with intake and exhaust. No doubt noticeable, but 30 would at the very least require tuning to realize.
Great video! Last weekend I installed a Banks intake on my 2019 L5P Duramax and wow what a difference! I could immediately tell a difference in throttle response and power! Also probably the best part is I can now hear my turbo whistle when I’m driving with my windows down! Totally worth it I highly recommend it! 👍🏼
Have you serviced the filter yet, you will discover you have to remove the whole system to get at the filter, now that's some engineering
I installed a Banks CAI on our 2020. Love it! For John Osborne-it only takes five minutes to replace the filter. Actually, made a video on how to replace.

I like modified trucks to some degree. But the older I get the less I modify. All the years and trucks past I had all I'm remembering is more problems with mods than there worth. I did just order a new 2500HD and I'm leaving that one bone stock except for rims and tires. Great informative video!
I hear ya..I have a 2018 2500 HD... The throttle response is terrible compared to my 07.. Only upgrade ill do is a cold air intake..

@@tray8411 I'm not sure a cold air intake will help your throttle response. There is a throttle response improver but I have no personal experience with that and don't know anyone who uses one. It's a 6.6 diesel so it's going to be laggy anyway. Other than heavily modified, I'm not sure it's worth spending the money to get better throttle response. My buddies with diesels with tuners say throttle response is improved but, most of them drive gas motors now.

I have 2016 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 5.7 Hemi and S&B CAI, mileage and performance went up, Top of Line!
I’ve got an S&B CAI and it’s awesome! Very easy to Install, looks great and did make a difference for sure. Teamed it up with an exhaust and pedal commander and the truck sounds mean and performs great! Definitely worth the money!
Does it help with gas?
I have an S&B on my 07 tundra 5.7l and I am very happy with it. I like how they have the optional plate you can remove or put back depending on the weather. Next I would like to plumb in a functional air louver from the fender for looks and giggles. Be safe and be blessed
The cold air intake I got for my truck increased the noise, gave noticeably more torque around 2000-2700rpm, and has caused my truck's MPG to go up by 1 gallon to 17mpg. Also, people don't say this but engine response is increased. When I am parking in a hard area or getting onto the concrete slab of my garage, the engine does not lag as much and is more responsive, which in my opinion is a good thing.
At least this guy isn't claiming 25 mpg lol
My honest opinion is aftermarket cold air intake didn't do much except mess with the ecm and the fuel trims I think stock just leave it factory unless you get the motor built

I have an S&B intake on my 2019 Cummins, sounds great, looks great, and has increased my usable power. And if I can manage to stay off the accelerator 😅 better mpg's
Does it really make that much of a difference? Without the baffle my turbo sounds pretty good already.
I got an AFE 3.5” Magnum Stage 2 cold air intake for my F-150 3.5L Ecoboost. Now my turbos sing to me.

I have the K&N cold air intake and snorkel combo on my jeep rubicon unlimited, paired with a magma flow 4 wheeling cat back exhaust that dumps right behind the rear passenger seat on the driver’s side and it is amazing. Slight increase in mpg when cruising around, but more hp, and torque improvement than I expected. It also sounds great.
From what I've researched, it depends what you have for a cold air intake to actually do anything. In regards to trucks, if you have a gas engine, it's not really going to do much. Your engine is already breathing relatively easy from factory. If you're driving a diesel, you'll usually see an actual improvement in power and MPG (depending how you drive). Diesels , especially on trucks, are turbocharged and further choked by EPA regulations, hence why cold air intakes are more effective on diesel engines
I have put cold air intakes on all my vehicles since I was 16! Gas and Diesel engines too. Always gain some fuel economy, usually adds for a nice/cool intake sound, and usually adds some noticeable power/acceleration gains! Have ran K&N in the past, but more so sold on the S&B systems the last few years!
you can clearly see this video shows its a "cold" air intake, all that means is its not sucking air from the engine compartment. the duramax diesel in chevy/gmc all have the "cold" air intake system from the factory, theres just no other way.
My truck is the LQ9 6.0L and I installed a cold air intake I thought it wasn't gonna make a difference but it kind of did it sounds way nicer and it gives it more throttle response it's not the fastest but I like it

I have an S&B CAI. I like it. I’ve had it for over 5 years now and it hasn’t let me down. I love the turbo noise in my 5.9l Cummins with this intake on it.

Yesss man! I love mine and there isnt much love for them in the upgrade/performance. Ive been scraping parts up that fit from all over. All I can get from them is a smallish lift kit and some wheels.

Funny that you show a K&N dyno and mention them. Because I was in contact with K&N R&D a few years back when they borrowed my car for a week to develop an intake, and they said they don't really make CAI's because gains are negligible over short ram intakes. And no, your intake with a heat shield is not a CAI. It's a short ram with a heat shield. A short ram intake with a good heat shield or air box with good flow is the best option.
Tacomas have come with cold air intakes, it comes right from under the fender and above the wheel arch. I can't say the plastics and rubber fittings can resist heat better than say K&N but the air is cold.
I put a K&N on my 3.6L V6 and it was too loud when towing anything. But I put one on my wife's Crosstour 3.5L V6 and it sounds very nice and you only hear it when you want.
I always got better throttle response. Not sure about the rest. But it's so hot in my town, they are hot air intakes.
S&B on my L50 with a bigger turbo horn and I hear much more airflow thru the cab turbo is a lot louder great upgrade. S&B has a great product for a great price.

S&b open style, the filter is HUGE. I know I know its not closed so blah blah blah, I got a powerstroke so the air gets charged from the intercooler regardless of weather or not the air is cold. Made a massive difference on the bottom end for sure.

Many thanks for your informative video. I'd be very grateful for your opinion on a cool air intake modification I'm thinking of making. I have a Hilux SW4 diesel 2008. The air filter is like a drum on the right and it receives air from under the wheel arch, which, even if the ill-fitting plastic liner with its fragile fasteners provided reasonable protection from dirt and rain thrown up by the wheel, I'd like to shift the air intake to inside the engine bay at the coolest, most protected spot. My idea is to block the orginal entry tube and fit another of the same diameter either forward to just behind the headlamp or at the right back corner of the engine compartment. Can you tell me which would be the cooler position and least likely to suck in dust and rain. Incidentally, I'm againt schnorkels for varios reasons, although they do look "sexy". I'd be extremely grateful for your expert advice on this project.
I installed the Mishimoto CAI for a Ranger 2019. Big increase in throttle response in low rpms.
I made a pretty cheap cold air intake, it made a very big difference, but also made it a lot louder lol
I have a K&N on my 05 cat eye and when I first installed it I definitely noticed an increase in power as well as definitely some extra sound but I think it was definitely worth it

can you make me a cold air intake for a 2021 Prius. Meep, Meep. I have a K&N on my 13 chevy, I can tell the difference. I get 20 mpg, on the highway at 75mph. Duramax.

Just swapped out my K&N cold air intake for something that won't rattle off the throttle body on my '97 Chevy I love the air filters, but I hate how cheap they went with the whole intake assembly.

Not to say "the weight of a wheel doesn't matter" but thats typically something that a car owner would be more concerned about when going for more of a track oriented build persay. As for trucks its kind of not a crucial thing, although would be nice to know!

I was kind of joking with my question, but I'm shocked at how terrible you answer is. There is a massive difference between a 22lb wheel and 45lb wheel. The fact that you think truck owners don't care is actually insulting and gives some interesting insight into your marketing strategy. ie...go after people who only care about looking cool and don't give shit about performance... LOL
It also just breaks down to that being a lot of information to be uploaded/updated to the site! We are rolling it out now with our in house brands like ARKON however for other brands I am not 100% sure when that information will be available but it definitely something that we have talked about and do want on the site for all wheels in time!

@@johnnydough8841 When I made this comment(a year ago) Custom Offsets had the "Weight:" on the list of specifications for every wheel on their site. But, there was no actual weight figures for like 95% of the wheels on the website. Why did they have weight listed and not put the figures on there? Fast forward to today... and most of the wheels do have the weight listed. Good work, Custom Offets. You are right though, most truck owners don't care, they just want to look cool. The ones who care are the ones with purpose-built rigs.

Cold air intake ain’t worth the $ unless your running other after market goodies. Like a MPD piping kit. I’ve had one before putting compound turbos on my f250 noticed no difference. I’ve had both S&B and now I have the No Limit because it fits my MPD piping kit on my compound setup

Unless you have your tube hooked into an ice box it's not a cold air intake. It's just an ambient air intake system
Dry ice, you dont want regular ice it will have less oxygen.

Probably got a vacuum leak which means the engine isn’t getting enough air to idle.
I want a cold air intake, but for what they do it’s really just not worth the $400 in my opinion

Says dyno proven, doesn't show any dyno results. Most dyno-improvement runs are from a dirty stock filter to a new system. Not from clean stock to new.
Go watch street speed 717 put a cai on a brand new truck that was just broken in. Well engineered cai will give you 15-20 hp/tq gains. It's simple, if it's piped right with better heat shielding the air going into the engine is cooler and denser giving you more power. A keyboard mechanic can tell you all about how they don't work but when Gale Banks tells you it works, it bloody works. May not be worth the 350-400 but the claims that S&B, Cold Air Inductions and other reputable manufacturers make (within reason) are accurate. Otherwise they would get done for false advertising.

K&N is definitely the best. I swear by K&N I have a cold air intake. Oil filter and fuel filter. Would use their new oil but it only comes in synthetic... boo
