Awesome, you saved me hours of shaking my head, trying to get my replacement Mac Mini functioning for a session coming up and never had to change these settings before. Thanks John Mike you're a lifesaver! Subscribed!
Thank you John Mike - it's hard to find resources that concisely and directly explain issues like this, and this was video was spot on! Made my day!
My DUDE!!!, it took me a good little minute to find the right "wording" for my problem. You solved it in the shortest quickest way possible. THANK YOU for that & I subbed because of it.
Thank you so much for this!!!! It randomly shut off for me and had been driving me crazy for weeks while trying to practice string parts. Keep up the great work!
This post is still helping Logic users (or at least newbies like me) in 2022. I reinitialized Logic and couldn't hear any of my plugins. I checked Input Monitoring and Low Latency Mode settings, but overlooked Software Monitoring (thinking it was the same as Input Monitoring). Your video got my issue sorted quickly. Many, many thanks!!!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the clear and concise info! Also, awesome sound you demonstrated with!
Love how you said this was going to be a quick video - and it was! Straight to the point with some taaaaasty keys action in there too. Thank you!
Out of all these CZcams videos, this is the one that actually helped me. Thanks so much!

Hey John Mike, thanks a bunch for this clip! The issue was driving me crazy for some time now and my solution was to randomly click on the Input monitor button and the record button and so on until it worked. Now I can fix it directly! Cheers dude!
Thank you so much for making a quick and concise video. I hate sifting through a 15 minute video trying find an answer. Subscribed.
You totally solved it! Thank you, John! Why Logic does not have this set up as the default is beyond me. But that doesn't change the fact that YOU ROCK!
Thank you brother! I just bought a new Mackie ProFx10v3 and couldn't hear my inputs from the mixer while running the track back on Logic Pro. This really saved me some headaches. Thank you for making your video short and to the point to get me up and running quickly. I'm laughing now that I see how easy the fix was. :) Much appreciated!

YES! I've been trying to figure this out for about 2 hours now! THANK YOU!
Crushed it in 1 minute and 45 seconds! So quick and easy and THANK YOU!
Man Thank You SO much, you made my month, I would think that guitar players showing an amp sim would know this and tell other guitar players but nope, not one!
John Mike, your youtube saved my life man. I was scratching my head and looked everywhere to find I could not hear my.audio. I knew it was something simple but looking for a needle in a hay stack. .thanks for sharing. I
This is the second time this video has set me straight, the first time being about a year ago (and I forgot from that first time what the solution was.) I had reset my Preferences to the defaults and those two checkboxes Auto Input Monitoring, and Software Monitoring got eliminated from the Control Bar and Display. It was the Software Monitoring that allowed me to hear my guitar whether in Record mode or not (and, yes, the I button next to the R button in the channel strip was turned on.)
Before using this solution, when I tried to record everthing worked (I was recording OK), but I couldn't hear it until playback, not while recording. Thanks again, Mr. Mike!
Hello John. I’d been struggling with this issue for hours. Your post provided the solution. Many Thanks. P
You are literally the ONLY resource online that has provided his answer! Thank you so much!

Many thanks John Mike! I've tripped up on this more than once ;). Great video.
This was a huge help. I was going crazy trying to figure this out. Thank you.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! :)
Awesome tip, thanks! I was having to close my project and restart it to be able to monitor input again. This will make life SO much easier!

Thanks, man! I was about ready to band my head against the wall with this problem--I was getting sound through the monitors until I played the whole track and then I couldn't hear the signal that I was clearly getting. You rock.
John Mike, thank you for this! I’ve been wondering why Logic randomly decided to stop making this input monitoring function and low and behold you can turn off the “auto” sense for it. Now it works every time thanks to you. Much appreciated!
yooo thank you for this! this problem was killing me. good looks John Mike.
Thanks! This was driving me crazy. I followed your advice and it worked!
Thank you my guy, straight to the point with no pissing about. god bless ya.
Like a lot of other comments here: I've been searching my ass off for this issue. Logic's help forum only giving answers as if we're idiots: "make sure the I button is on" or "check your audio input settings" Thanks a lot🙏for this quick and clear solution
That's been driving me nuts for ages - thank-you!
Thank you so much. I wanted to live input monitor vocals and guitar during playback of a drummer part that was already laid down. Adding the buttons "Software Monitoring" and "Auto Input Monitoring" helped a ton. I had to enable software monitoring and disable auto input monitoring for this to work (using Logic Pro 10.7.1). Subscribed! Thanks!
This issue was driving me crazy, thanks for sharing man, subscribed!!
