IF THIS DOESN'T WORK, READ THIS. I had the same issue, but no midi channel assignment fixed it! I had to actually go into MIDI settings and turn of MIDI 2.0 for Omnisphere to finally work!! I am on a new m1 Max Mac but running logic in rosetta, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's just some random compatibility bug.
That's what did it for me!! Really helpful... thanks! It's not fun being stuck in a session abroad with a client waiting for a technical issue to be resolved 😤
I had a similar problem - I could see that the midi keyboard was hitting the DAW (Logic, natch) with midi data, but the software instrument would not sound. However, if I clicked on the keyboard in the piano roll (edit window) the instrument would sound. Changing MIDI Channel assignment in the track, as you discussed, did not fix it. I changed midi interfaces & cables - No Go. I DISCOVERED THE FIX was to uncheck the 'Notes' box, in the Input Filter tab, of the Midi tab, of the Midi Sync Project Settings window, in Preferences. Here's the map: Preferences-> Click 'MIDI' tab -> Select 'Sync' -> Click 'MIDI Sync Project Settings...' button -> Click 'MIDI' button in top row of icons -> Select 'Input Filter' tab -> Uncheck 'Notes' (and any other midi data types might not want filtered out when you press a key on your midi keyboard). Hope this helps somebody.
I appreciate the detailed explanation brother. I'm somehow still having the same issue. When I select a note in the piano roll, it plays but not from my midi controller. Any other things I may be missing?
Thank you for this.....My situation was a little bit different. I use Plugin Alliance bundle and for some reason when I opened up a session the plugins were deactivated. So any track that had a PA plugin on it did not play at all. Once I opened the plugin and signed into Plugin Alliance, put in my password to reactivate everything. All the midi played as expected. So another solution for some may be to check and see if your plugins are causing the problem.
Please help. Whenever I drag wavs in from my rode caster pro, I get this strange thing where there is no sound, although I can see that the recording is there on Logic. I'll see if I can who you a picture of where the problem is.
If I run across the same issue with ‘no sound’ from software instruments into Logic Pro, being heard on my midi keyboard controller, if the issue is on more than one track, do you I have to select different midi tracks, like 1,2,3? Thanks

hi, I have an issue, about a year ago I created a song and the original plugins doesn't sound, I checked my ssd and were there, but it didn't work. when I play it they just fade out about 2 seconds later
With various updates to software etc its always best to export your files as audio. So when you come back to your beats later you don't have issues like this.
I have the same issue as David Pierce below, but Notes were unchecked in my settings. I sttill cannot hear or see any sound other than when clicking piano roll keys. Please help

Sir, this is crazy... I have a different issue. While recording Omnisphere it works ok... But after saving, exit and reopen the project, Omnispehere will never play back... You can seee the Midid datas there intact... BUT WILL NEVER PLAY.... Any solution???? desperate....
What about audio from my microphone I’m not getting a signal in my Logic Pro X DAW from the UA Interface and for the life of me I can’t figure out why? Software? I just updated my Mac to the latest to see if that helps, not sure how to get the most recent software for UA? I’m using an SM7B and it’s not getting a signal on the channel 1 strip for audio and not outputting and I do have output and input settings under preferences in logic selected to use my UA Interface via thunderbolt connection and all it says is failed I’ve tried closing and re opening UA and Logic no dice please help someone?!! 😩
I think you have to go into the console and change your inputs there to match the mic. Then make sure that you check the audio settings in Logic, and that the UA interface is selected...
I spoke with Apple media group about this. I also run Apollo interfaces. This fix didn’t help. If I start a new project and add a software instrument track it will work fine. If I try and add a software instrument track after I’ve added several audio tracks, I get this issue. If I want to add a software track after, I have to start a new project, add a software instrument track, then import the tracks from the old project. It doesn’t matter if I use midi or USB, I still have this problem when adding a software instrument track to an existing project. Logic is seeing the input, it just doesn’t sound. I can type notes in manually in the editor, but playing them from a keyboard controller only works if it’s a new project.

I TRIED THIS VIDEO AND TRIED WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAID IN THE COMMENTS AND NOTHING'S WORKING. I have an external midi keyboard plugged into Mac via USB. Logic is firing when I press keys as I can see notes changing in the transport box but I don't hear any sound. If I hit record and press the keys I don't hear sound but MIDI data is recorded. When I listen back the VST is playing what I played. This is maddening though because I need to hear WHILE I'm recording.
This is exactly the issue I have except I can't choose midi channel. I have midi in port, midi in and out channel. I still can't get any sound. I am using a Komplete Kontrol Midi keyboard. Please help I have watched so many tutorials and still can't get my problem fixed.

Didn't work for me. When I ran the midi monitor I can see that the computer recognized my keyboard but I still have no audio unless I use the Musica typing. I don't know why this happened it was working fine the last time I used it
I was just making a beat, hit a button and it’s not only no sound, no audio is being shown as played on ANY others or any file I open, idk what I hit but something switched off and nothing I find anywhere is helping!

@@cannamink man it can't be something you can't fix. Check the audio settings on your computer and make sure playback audio is on the same interface as the one you use in Logic. Make sure your audio preferences are set up right in Logic as well. I wouldn't throw in the towel on a $200 purchase that easy. You can also go to your local Guitar Center, bet one of the guys there could help look at everything as well.. bring your laptop to the store. Or go to apple if you go it from there and ask one of the guys in the store to look at it. Don't waste your money man! Logic is a dope daw, you'll be glad you stuck with it. Plus whatever issue you are having will more than likely be happening on the next daw you try to replace Logic with too. But anyway hope you get this figured out.

Yesterday I purchased a new interface and I’m loving it. I’ve been playing with logic all night. I appreciate your help and information. Your videos still taught me a lot. My software instrument isn't reacting to MIDI messages out of the blue in the middle of a recording session. Unfortunately, this didn't solved the problem... I'm a sound engineer and have been doing this for 15 years... I love Logic but they need to *stop* the automated code running in the background and just let us run manual!!!! It's always trying to switch things and understand what the preferences should be and what you should hear or not even tho you don't change a setting manually. It is m-a-d-d-e-n-i-n-g and I hate that about it, even if it st ill is the best DAW out there and that's why I tolerate this BS.

What about when you can hear everything during input monitoring and while recording but can’t hear it during playback? My meters are still working.

I TRIED THIS VIDEO AND TRIED WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAID IN THE COMMENTS AND NOTHING'S WORKING. I have an external midi keyboard plugged into Mac via USB. Logic is firing when I press keys as I can see notes changing in the transport box but I don't hear any sound. If I hit record and press the keys I don't hear sound but MIDI data is recorded. When I listen back the VST is playing what I played. This is maddening though because I need to hear WHILE I'm recording.

This is exactly the issue I have except I can't choose midi channel. I have midi in port, midi in and out channel. I still can't get any sound. I am using a Komplete Kontrol Midi keyboard. Please help I have watched so many tutorials and still can't get my problem fixed.

I recored vocals , finished a whole song now I can't hear anything but the beat , the tracks are there the stem rolls right over it please help tried everything

Didn't work for me. When I ran the midi monitor I can see that the computer recognized my keyboard but I still have no audio unless I use the Musica typing. I don't know why this happened it was working fine the last time I used it
Im not sure on that one either.
I literally woke up this morning, turned everything on, and it was working again. It's as simple as that!
I was just making a beat, hit a button and it’s not only no sound, no audio is being shown as played on ANY others or any file I open, idk what I hit but something switched off and nothing I find anywhere is helping!

@@cannamink man it can't be something you can't fix. Check the audio settings on your computer and make sure playback audio is on the same interface as the one you use in Logic. Make sure your audio preferences are set up right in Logic as well. I wouldn't throw in the towel on a $200 purchase that easy. You can also go to your local Guitar Center, bet one of the guys there could help look at everything as well.. bring your laptop to the store. Or go to apple if you go it from there and ask one of the guys in the store to look at it. Don't waste your money man! Logic is a dope daw, you'll be glad you stuck with it. Plus whatever issue you are having will more than likely be happening on the next daw you try to replace Logic with too. But anyway hope you get this figured out.
@@BeatMakingBasics Thanks, dude. I actually figured it out. The interface I had (zoom R24) wasn’t compatible anymore. I contacted the company to confirm. Yesterday I purchased a new interface and I’m loving it. I’ve been playing with logic all night. I appreciate your help and information. Your videos still taught me a lot. You definitely gained a subscriber. Keep killing the game and staying consistent. You’ll see me around, fam 🤙

My software instrument isn't reacting to MIDI messages out of the blue in the middle of a recording session. Unfortunately, this didn't solved the problem... I'm a sound engineer and have been doing this for 15 years... I love Logic but they need to *stop* the automated code running in the background and just let us run manual!!!! It's always trying to switch things and understand what the preferences should be and what you should hear or not even tho you don't change a setting manually. It is m-a-d-d-e-n-i-n-g and I hate that about it, even if it st ill is the best DAW out there and that's why I tolerate this BS.
I feel you man Logic is def an amazing daw but there are a few areas of improvement for sure!

Not sure bro but I’d check the midi channel in the inspector window .. make sure it’s set to channel 1
