There is a mystery ship afoot...
Yes officer this comment right here
Looks like the pun-cops are onto you, you'd better leg it.
The pun sniffing dogs caught the scent
Toe-tally agree with y’all there. :P
Better move your comment before they "toe"-it ;D
The fact a film from 1983 still has a lot of hidden details amazes me
Hee, well, for a lot of that time, people had tube TVs and VHS to work with, *maybe* the occasional laserdisc. And even someone with EC Henry's talent and skill and gear and patience has taken a long time to get through everything there is to squint at. (If that's even everything yet.)
It was found decades ago.
And you know there must be more old material in the Lucasfilm archives that still hasn't seen the light of day.
@@txlyons2937 apparently there like 6 hr cuts of the TPM and RotS if not the other movies
What happens when people get bored
This is why I love the star wars community. Only someone in Star Wars could make a ship based on a blurry prop put into s movie and make it good
Why not a shoe though? I mean you don't have any aerodynamic design considerations in space, and a shoe, while weird, isn't exactly the least aerodynamic shape I can think of even if that was a factor. A boot maybe (not that there aren't also boot shaped ships in star wars), but a loafer is at least sleek and well distributed in terms of mass. You even have ships that literally look like a pair of shoes (the twin pod cloud car from Bespin in case you were wondering) so it's not that silly of an idea when you think about it.
This is why we care about the movies, we play, theorize, and enjoy each and every bit of lore; this isn't a little show with a couple ten's of thousands of fans, this is Star Wars with tens of MILLIONS of fans, some of which have an unhealthy obsession.
@Death By Design Graphics the _Heart Of Gold_ from _The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy_ was described as looking like a shoe.
@@DeathBYDesign666 do the in atmosphere ships really consider aerodynamics that much?
I love this comment. It just makes me love the Star Wars fan community just as much as Star Wars itself.
As I also note below, The Heart of Gold infinite improbability drive ship was literally described as looking like a running shoe. While at nearly infinite improbability, it could well have passed through the Battle of Endor in another facet of the multiverse.
My thoughts exactly.
Ford, you're turning into a Ewok.
Stop it.
Damn, beat me to it😂
Also, there's only like 4 monkeys out here, and they wasn't to talk about this sequel trilogy they've worked up...
yes but it was never said what species the heart of gold was a shoe FOR. Thus both screen versions can be accurate with the book.
@@CaritasGothKaraoke one would imagine the narrator is describing things to humans, as for the countless metaphors that only make sense for humans.
Is it just me or is it really insane that this years old mystery has been solved by no one else but ECHenry? Really shows that he's the best at this and how much he cares for Star Wars' little details!
I mean, if anyone was gonna solve it, it should've been ECHenry. This man is a master at bringing life to random background miniatures in Star Wars
@@dragonblaster-vu8wz 100%, that's what I mean!
@@dragonblaster-vu8wz it's fitting, really.
You're assuming he's correct. Unless the original FX artists say, "Yeah, he's right," it's all just speculation.
@@Durwood71 Excellently put. People taking a stated 'theory' as gospel and making it part of the lore, rather than acknowledge its only head cannon.
I would love to see a recreation of the battle of Endor and it includes all of Henry's ships.
I’m sure he’ll do something like that once he’s recreated every visible ship
It's a shame everything is online now. If the next upgrade to a DVD came out I'd but it just for the battle with all these models.
They could be featured in Adywan's long-awaited Return of the Jedi fan edit. unless thats already out. havent been keeping up with the news on that
@@GiantBoarMonster What is that?
Yeah !
Turning the shoe into a crazy pickup truck with a howitzer bolted to the back was the right move, the crackpot energy fits this easter egg
It’s not too different in shape language than the Slave One, so I feel like it works in Star Wars, and I love that you made it a “Sprinter class”. Also I love the armless Ortolans, they’re one of my favorite recent revelations about Star Wars
The general shape of it also reminds me of Jabba’s sail barge, but without the sails.
What is the deal with the Ortolans? Is there a subspecies that doesn't have arms, or...? (I mean, I just did a quick check, and Rebo definitely looks like standard arm placement, so confused am I)
@@Sephiroth144 googling "armless ortolan" reveals that the original design intended for them to be armless, with what we now see as arms actually being the legs and max rebo sitting on a cushion behind his keyboard rather than standing
@@Spooglecraft So, OG designs vs what's actually on screen (in RotJ, not to mention Max Rebo's action figure); which kinda causes the issue of having more than one type (and the whys in-universe)
Granted, I do prefer having some more alien aliens, but can be problematic when they've established certain things (especially in obvious ways)
Slave One was known in kindergartens all over the world as "The Flatiron Ship". Some of the (Corellian?) cruisers look a lot like half-melted G-11 caseless rifles (themselves a bit sci-fi). Things look like other things, I guess :)
It's amazing how many new details are still being found THIS long after the movie's release.
You absolute madman! A shoe?
I wish Lucasfilm would hire you, pure brilliance!
Of course, it could be The Heart of Gold from the Hitchhiker's series. That was explicitly described as looking like a running shoe. Also, with the drive running at improbability factor infinity, it would pass through all points in the universe simultaneously. So why not the multiverse? So why wouldn't it appear at the Battle of Endor? (I'm talking about the fictional worlds here, not the media timelines, of course.)
hell no, Lucasfilm needs to stay the hell away from EC Henry. he's too great to be smothered by corpo crap and doomed to work on some streaming service garbage.
@@phantauss13 streaming service garbage? Idk all the SW shows have been amazing and have mostly great ratings and positive online feed, I think you're just in the minority of people who doesnt like anything

I love this channel so much! 😊
@@RRSlugger I was gonna bring this exact video up on the next stream!
I know it's essentially a joke ship but I actually love the design of this one! The detachable shuttle immediately sold me on it
It's handy for getting foots on the ground.
A Star Wars ship used to step on the enemy with.😅
@@johnbockelie3899 It was all about them trying to get a foot in the door.
Its really impressive how you can take a shoe, and still explain it as a ship in a way that looks appealing, yet faithful to the design, and can make sense. You are a unique puzzle solver.
Is crazy how you managed to make an amazing star-wars-vibe, believable lore and functional ship all from a *SHOE*
It looks much more like a tennis shoe if you flip the shot upside down and read it as the shoe being viewed from below so that the sole is visible. The darker part is the heel and the horizontal line in the middle is where the sole ends and the rest of the shoe begins.
Don't be too discouraged I know someone on Deviantart. They turned regular household items, even their own deodorant into a star wars ship
I once saw a model maker turn a shampoo bottle into a sci-fi spaceship. Any shape can become a ship if you add the right detail pieces!
Do you mean Space Goose?
Remember the ship in the film Aliens was a rifle with bits added to it to make it look like a ship......
I would _really_ like a link to that page so I can witness it myself.
I wonder what cool ship he's designing from a blip this time!
"I found a shoe!"
Oh...
"So here's the design and the backstory...."
Magnificent.
I really appreciate your committment to giving the rebels as many Space Technicals as possible. Who needs safety when you have a full turbolaser on your ship?
I never would have imagined that some one would make this to a ship.
Dude just created a whole backstore and concept arts around a shoe in the background of a spacebattle. Kudos to you and great job G!
You are incredible for actually making the shoe into an actual ship that fits beautifully into the Starwars Universe. Starwars needs more people like you! The ship is absolutely phenomenal and hilarious on point for the Rebels at the same time. Amazing 😆
I love the idea of the Rebels having a sort of space technical. It's not a Hilux, but close enough! :p
I love the overall design of this ship! Its funny and amazing how you was able to take a simple gag/joke and turn it into an actual ship that could easily fit into Star Wars canon, I also like how the big dual turbolaser on the back of the ship is basically a WW2 German 12.8cm Flak 40 Zwilling cannon, really maintains that link between WW2 and the original trilogy which makes it so much better, keep up the phenomenal work Henry, you've got so much talent
I only wish he had made the ship a Hutt design instead of a Kuat ship, the sweeping lines remind me a lot of the Huttese sails, and they are fond of flat top rear gun mounts on their vessels.
And totally in line with what Germans actually came up with: 75mm PAK40 Cannon with autoloader on a Henschel Hs 129 plane
@@EyMannMachHin WW2 Germany was a different kind of wacky at times, from The HS-129 like you mentioned, to plans such as the P.1000 and P.1500 LandKreuzers
Surely the shoe ship must be the Heart of Gold!
This model is fantastic! You somehow made a shoe look like an awesome ships that I’d like to see appear frequently in Star Wars. I also loved the lore you created for the “Winged Victory.”
Okay, legitimately? This is my favorite one.
This brings a whole new meaning to the Alliance's "Hit and RUN tactics", at least they got some slick footwear to run with 🤣
I'm all for the shoe gag ship being a space technical piloted by two dudes with flexible standards of safety and a desire to bolt the biggest gun they could find to their questionably obtained joyride.
It's quite obvious you had way too much fun with this, and the video is all the more fun for it.
It's incredible how authentic your renders look, the one with the brothers in the foreground and The Shoe on the landing pad in the background could have easily been a convincing Mandalorian "leak", amazing stuff!
Also in my own head I like to think that The Shoe is part of some Star Wars gundum of some sorts, like imagine if it was originally part of a fleet that resembles a giant humanoid body, which includes a sister-ship in the form of say, a right shoe, two leg-shaped ships (or just one A-shaped shipe), a torso ship with two wings resembling arms, two hand ships, and finally, a head-shaped ship. The Shoe we see in RotJ was just the one that the Rebels got their hands on, and therefore is the only ship of it's original fleet we ever see. Your interpretation is also pretty fun though, I'd say its more logical than my silly idea lol.
Maybe the shoe belongs to Mega Maid (Spaceballs).
Just when I thought this channel couldn't get any better. This is beyond epic. You deserved to find the shoe!
I love the Ortolan crew
So much detail being hurled into a shoe! This is _Certified Bonkers!!!_
I think that the shoe might have been upside down and angled ever so slightly and that might be why it does not look like a tennis shoe.
it looks like a tennis shoe to me but it's upside down
That was my first thought as well.
Ah yes, The Winged Victory. The crew would often go into combat yelling their battle cry "just do it!" 😂
As always your attention to small details is delightful.
I was scrolling to see if anyone else caught the victory/nike connection. Nice.
😄 LOL That was... awesome! I love the fact that despite all the odds that would make this ship utterly boring to look at, you still put up a interesting design and even and excellent story behind it. Wow. Hats off.
I feel like if you flipped the shoe upside down (sole on top) then the design can start to really work. I respect the commitment to the bit though 😂 and the blue elephants just add the to joke. Maybe even a joke for the backstory about how an old woman used to own the shoe - I mean ship 😁
Best of luck with your upcoming film! Can’t wait to see it
That's how I thought the "shoe" that he found in the background was oriented!
There are also many Star Wars ships that at first appear upside-down.
The nerdiness of this is phenomenal. I love it!
Every EC Henry video just knocks it out of the park with how well his analysis and designs are
I'm a simple man. I see EC Henry post a video on Star Wars ships, I immediately hit like. 👍
P.S. I also contributed to Trial on the Island Moon. Here's hoping it takes off and that you include some of these ships in there, like EC Henry fan Easter eggs.
Such a dedication to Star Wars with immaculate attention to details! Your channel is unique, please keep going, this is the right direction!
I love the irony that you chose pilots for the shoe who technically don't have feet
Another idea for the design could be a Self-Deployable Mobile Artillery; it’s able to move independent from a carrier ship (unlike the SPHA-T) which would also fit with the Rebel fleet.
Finally, shoe lore.
looks like a fleet of these could also be mobile artillery platforms for rebel army forces due to the cannon on the back.
I have a request/suggestion that I've been thinking about since your Millennium Falcon in Star Trek video, if you're interested - now that you've transformed a Star Wars ship into Star Trek's style, how about reinterpreting the TOS Enterprise as a Star Wars ship?
Allegedly, a Starfleet-style ship can be seen mixed into the air traffic on Coruscant in the background of one shot. Maybe that could serve as the basis for the Star Wars-ified Enterprise?
The Heart of Gold is a shoe shaped ship in the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. It is exceedingly improbable that this vessel would show up at the Battle of Endor in the Star wars setting. But the thing is, the Heart of Gold have an improbability drive that essentially make the improbable inevitable and as such I give this alternative solution to the problem.
It may be a joke ship but I really like what you did with it, bolting on a ridiculously oversized canon on it fits so damn well with the rebel fleet.
Star Wars mech suit, let’s go!!!!
I love how you had to contain your laughter at 2:05 XD
I love that the owners of the flying shoe are Ortolons, the species with only two limbs tipped with hand-feet. Henry, you're a legend for your dedication to the Star Wars aesthetic and the lore you come up with for these designs. I know people are often quick to suggest franchises hire prominent creator-fans ("Nintendo, hire this man!"), but I truly think no one deserves the chance to make your mark on the official films/shows more than you.
The design with the big rear gun actually lends itself decently to being a sort of artillery/AA drop ship. They could land just about anywhere that could support a ship of their size, and offer good ground to air support for new/temporary bases. Land a few of these near a LZ, and troop/supply transports can feel safer landing to pick up or drop off large amounts of supply. Hell clamp a few of these to a ship or asteroid and you have auxiliary weapons blisters. It is kinda silly looking, but arguably quite practical and isn’t too far outside the Star Wars realm which still has a number of other silly ships
Throwing a few bucks at your Kickstarter, after years of quality videos, you've earned it, and I hope others join me in getting you over the finish line!
“Wingless Victory” being a roundabout reference to the goddess Nike was absolutely brilliant AND hilarious!!
In the EU era it would have been confirmed to have been an actual shoe and there would have been a 6 novel series giving the backstory of Rebel special operations pilot Jace Windowasher who was a hero of the Galactic Civil War and at least peripherally involved in major events dating back to the Battle of Yavin at least, who was heroically killed at Endor while flying a crippled A wing directly into the path of a turbolaser blast that would have crippled the Millennium Falcon, thus indirectly saving the Rebellion's chance to destroy the Second Death Star. His shoe miraculously survived the massive shot of plasma energy that disintegrated everything else. He wore a loose loafer even in combat because his feet had been injured by an Imperial bio-weapon in the vicious campaigns of Ord Mantell. And that series would have been awesome.
Interesting ships you find there.
Yes! It was found! Great model. That movie is going to be excellent.
5 videos in one month is a bloody blessing
Yoo man the vibe of the shoe ship completely changes if you turn it upside down! A whole new range of possibilities for ship design and backstory with orientation flipped. Would love it if you made a video about that version! Love your channel dude.❤
That is cool and nice backstory. I was thinking if it was flipped over and you stuck the engines in the back where that gun is you'd have a good ship too. I like the idea of it being some sort of landing craft or tug with an oversized gun on it.
3:15 _Pelea_ ...
Peleus - father of Achilles
or
Pele - legendary Brazilian footbal player.
Thanks man! For keeping the OT vibe alive like no other. I really appritiate your stuff.
I can't tell you enough how much I love this. I have design creatures and boardgames with back story etc for 15+ years but never posted anything official. This is literally not only a super rare find but the back story fits and it would be applicable in the rest of the universe. Love it!
Nice double 12.8 flak double canon. Gotta sneak them WWII weapons in there
Nicely done! As always! It's a logical design there. I think the modelers that worked on the original films would be impressed with this and the other ships you've featured. Very interesting ship. "Armed pick-up truck" haha yeah like the Taliban. I've noticed that ship in the background at least on high definition never realized that was the shoe
It looks like a ship that would typically land on plants as a sort of mobile gun platform to aid with anti air fire and so on. It could be rapidly deployed/moved and could fit nearly anywhere. Would make sense for the Rebels to have a ship with such capabilities. Nice design and lore as always from u !
Another mystery ship! YESSS! 😆
Brilliant! I love this! The fact that a plain white deck shoe made it in to the Battle of Endor is awesome. But your lore behind the actual shoe-shaped ship takes it to a new level.
I think this interpretation is great. But it would look better upside down. 👍👍
it must be a furtive ship, designed for sneak through blockades, a "sneaker ship"
Love the reinterpretation of the shoe shape! The final ship has a fantastic look, and the way the fore has the cut out section really helps ground it as a ship rather than footwear
Genuinely insane how you keep finding all these tiny things in the Battle of Endor, incredible stuff!
Fantastic Footwear
What if it was a sneaker turned upside down?
You’re an absolute inspiration and that model you made for just a joke is too much. Absolutely love it.
Locating the shoe was great, but coming up with a plausible design and backstory for it? You’re a damn genius!
I bet the shoe is upside down.....
If the shoe fits….
This is a shoe-in for best video!
Thanks for baring your sole on this design.
And the way the script just rolled off your tongue? Brilliant!

I love the Star Wars archeology work you do, and your shoe turned pleasure-craft turned technical adds a wonderful narrative. The Kickstarter is getting close, I will pledge again if it comes down to the wire.
your pictures and recreations remind me so much of the beloved 90s expanded universe, much more so than anything in the disney canon
Absolutely phenomenal as always - and I think the idea of the detachable craft is perfect. Luxury ships in Star Wars have always fascinated me in the weird ways they deviate from other star wars ships.
I am saving this in a personal list because I love the idea so much.
omg yes. Just got to the part we're he starts saying "I'm gonna make a shoe, A ship shoe."
Love this channel 😆
I'm always blown away by how in universe these mystery ships are then boom back story to make them extra real.
Thank you for the time and effort you devote to brining the obscure little details to life.
I got a real kick out of this. You're ship design is creative and looked awesome to boot!
My headcanon:
The Rebels had an idea to fight the Death Star with a giant mecha. A mighty and highly powerful mech armed with an oversized lightsaber that would literally slice through Imperial forces and bring victory to the Alliance.
Unfortunately lack of funds and time meant they had only built one shoe by the time of the battle of Endor.
Haha! The fact that you actually felt obligated to make a ship that looked like a shoe is gold mate. Pure gold.
The Shoe!!! It's so delightful the little shoe related Easter eggs you worked in. The wingless victory, reference to the Nike brand. The sprinter class, clear reference to its running shoe origins. Ah it brings so much joy
I think it would have been more interesting if the shoe was flipped upside down for the ship design but overall this thing has big Early 80s RPG energy
Thank you. This greatly amused me, and made me smile. I applaud your creativity. Keep it up.
Totally Genius. Just without words. Awesome work!
This is such an absurd thing... but I love that you've actually made it make sense contextually. Beautiful work on the design and amazing work making it fit with the lore as ever!
Wingless Victory as a play on the goddess Nike is the kind of backstory design that I love this channel for.
Your passion for SW is obvious, and your a very talented individual and your channel and work are spectacular. You have gained a lifelong fan/subscriber in me. I said the same thing to Eckhartsladder about 5 years ago, and I still actively watch, like, and comment on his content. Basically when I say “lifelong” I mean it. Good work to you sir, I’ve been binge watching your previous content and I love every second of it.
Oh, also that looks like an actual vintage white-soled tennis court shoe, upside down, with something over the mid-sole and heel. The shoe is flipped upside-down to hide the laces, and the sole is obscured to break up it’s shape. With the bright lights used to film miniatures, a white sole and side detail would be pretty washed out, so the tread wouldn’t be super visible, especially if he just put some paper or plastic over the toe box
Actually if you rotate the image down you can see that the grey smudge and the black area is where they had taped a rod, then they blurred that area out and cut the rest of the rod from the image.
Dude congrats on the Kickstarter!!!!
I love your content so much. It's just perfect! Have you ever thought what would the prequel ships look like if they were made in late 70's? That would look very interesting and would be a nice content for future videos.
I love that you choose for the shoe (my bad "Sprinter") to be ownered and crewed by aliens that do not wear shoes
