    If all businesses were ran like yours, the world would be such a better place. As a business owner myself for 17 years, and working for 2 different family owned companies. I've never seen anything like your culture. Thank you for showing me that it is possible!!!!

      Family owned is often a marketing farce used for marketing as well as an excuse for less than better pay because "you're part of the family"... While they are living lavish lives... Been there... Done with that. 😁

      This is often forgotten about in service to profits. Employees are your #1 resource. If you don't spend time and money investing in your employees like you do with the rest of the business, you'll end up with lower quality and less loyal employees. Just like computers, if you put garbage into the company, you'll only get garbage out of it.

    As a security guard at one of the biggest (if not the biggest) companies on the planet I really admire what you've built. I can almost guarantee there's no such support or general generosity at play within our company. It's a "you're replaceable and here's your check don't be late tomorrow you'll be gone faster than you can call in sick" environment.

      Unfortunately, that's how millions exist. Keep building your own integrity, slowly, and learn to know who is honourable. Whatever age you are try to learn something, spend as little as possible, even the process of thinking, knowing you have invested time in yourself, creates change. Even putting a comment on here shows a lot.

      I have to say that of all the jobs that I worked and all the employers that I've had there were two that stand out in my mind. One guy was a manager of a diner where I was working and our dishwasher didn't show up one day as he was sick, the manager went in the back rolled up his sleeves and washed dishes. I had more respect for that man than anybody in my entire life. The other one was a manager who came down on the sales floor after asking me to work late which I really didn't want to do but we were under the gun to get a sales display up he came down and stood next to me and my coworkers and worked alongside me rather than staying behind us and barking orders he is another one that I held in high regard. The rest of my managers over the years can all kiss ass cuz they all sucked

      I've worked at places that say "we're a family here" because it's actually a family business. Come to find out it's not a *good* "family" environment because it's just their dysfunctional home bullshit taken into the business. It looked nice as an outsider, but was incredibly abusive behind the scenes. Oh the stories I could tell.
      I'm glad that James' company is nothing like that.

      @@Trelior Yup! Been there! But fortunately my experience was mostly a fun ride! Yeah sure, I was usually the guy who went to fix their f ups, but tbh, it made fun memories. Maybe I had a different dysfunctional group than you.

    If that employee had just sit on his butt in that 10 months, I think that conversation would have gone differently. You all saw how much he had worked, which made you all want to help him. So glad it will all work out and I hope this guy ends up being one of your biggest success stories!

      Where I work you have to be someone's buddy. Otherwise you're nobody.
      I wish that my employer cared about profits. We make money in spite of ourselves.
      A new boss told me, "I understand that you feel sour". He was not interested in why so to me he's just going through the motions. I try to support him anyhow because he's more decent than most of the human waste who "manage".

    I own a small motorcycle service and repair shop, I'm getting ready to hire my first employee, and I want this at my shop. James what you have at your septic business is the reason I started my own, I struggled my entire adult life to find a job that the people I worked for, to care about there employees not just that they were good for work but mental health, home life, ect. What you guys have built should be the standard for all businesses, and if everyone did that I believe it would change the country.

    Honestly, I've never really heard of this kind of employer before. All most businesses seem to care about is the bottom line. Most of my employers bullied me and I simply just couldn't do anything to make them happy with my performance while people who did little to nothing got all the praise. I've actually been fired for making other women look bad because I worked like the guys do. I genuinely wish that all employers were like your company, it would be far less miserable to go to work every day. You are truly heartwarming in videos like this.💖

      This is how companies used to treat their employees before greed got involved and unions lost ground in the US. I heard this one time during covid, not sure if it was last year or this year. But, a ceo said that he was not having trouble keeping and finding workers because he had been treating his employees well before covid, and was having trouble understanding why other companies where having such a hard time keeping and/or finding workers. I live in WI, and a state company called Kwik Trip is now providing child care at their corporate offices because they cannot get people to come in and work in the office. The employee has to pay something for it, but the employee is able to see their kids more while they are at work.
      There are companies out there like this one, they just are hard to find right now. After covid gets over with, and things kind of get back to normal, listen to your local radio station, and the adds that are playing for jobs. Keep track of those adds, and if you keep hearing those same companies always running adds, or the stop and then start running adds for the same jobs, that may tell you that may not be the company that you want to work for.

    My ex boss was the most toxic boss I’ve ever experienced - and after working with her for 9 years I still have PTSD from the experience. Anything done opposite to how she did it is the right way. She lied to staff, gaslighted, tried to turn staff against each other, micromanaged, took responsibility for other people’s ideas, spread lies about people (she told my colleagues I was ‘on drugs’ after I told her I was on antibiotics, etc…. To hear about companies like yours - that help out their workers - is so great! It’s too bad some people are so awful to their coworkers

      I worked at a county School system in metro Atlanta for 34 years in the maintenance department. The environment there was very toxic mostly during my first 7 years there. I hung in there because of the benefits the state offered. I can tell you that it takes years to get the toxicity out of that environment. I'm retired now at 68 years-old. I'm to old to work for James. Oh by the way the PTSD is real.

      I hung in for about 17 years at my last job. Your description was almost spot on how I felt I was treated especially toward the end. Always being told worthless, never be nothing, do it their way and it was wrong, and them say I never told you that. Lie about vacation time, not let you go to your grandmother's funeral without first bringing her death certificate. I could go on and on......

      Your coworkers are never family, they are colleagues. not saying that is a bad thing, blood aint perfect either, but none of your colleagues are your family, and you'd be a fool to believe so. I love some of my colleagues more than my blood family, but they are still JUST colleagues. The professional and personal respect I have for them and what they have in return doesn't lead either of us to insult the other by calling them family. They are my esteemed, valued colleagues. This also means that those in your blood family can elevate themselves to a status only reserved for those who you hold in the highest regard of the word "colleague", when you work in the trenches with someone there is a connection greater than what can be described as "family".

      @@OwnerOfOwn I guess if we are getting technical with our opinions, "team" would be a better word choice than "family". I've heard many people in business using similar logic as you did, saying that "family" is a bad way to look at a business and that it should be a "team". In 2 decades of listening to business advice, you are actually the first person that didn't use "team", but instead used "colleague". I've also never heard someone say "JUST teammates" in the way you used "JUST colleagues", but you got around to the same point. I've worked with many people that I considered colleagues, but they haven't all been good teammates. Of course, I've been part of a "team" that was a mess as well, simply because they were trying to use the buzzword to improve company culture. Ultimately "family" often causes so many issues for people that it sometimes puts them in a weird mindset that hurts each other rather than a "team" that is suppose to be focused on the whole. Then there are other people that have never thought of a "team" or "colleagues" as highly regarded, but think of "family" as everything. The fact that your comment has 1 like and the one you responded to has 132, leads me to a lesson the internet has taught me well... There are many times in life when someone says something and it is unnecessary to correct them with your opinion.

    You know, you keep saying the phrase “supervisor” and “owner” a lot in these videos, and I think honestly you and the staff you have can be described by another word, one I didn’t think I’d use to describe any sort of management in the workforce ever again, you guys are leaders. You are leading the workforce you have, guiding them to do and be better, or at least that is what I’ve seen in these videos thus far. It’s honestly refreshing to see this actually occurring.

    All other things aside, the fact that this employee felt safe enough to come to you, an owner of the company, and tell you these things with an obvious expectation that you would be open to not only listening but offer genuine advice because you care about them not only as an employee but as a person speaks volumes for not only your company culture, but you as a person. I cannot get enough of your content, as a member of “senior leadership”, who has worn every hat from working as the acting owner in their absence, to a technician, you are doing it right! Much respect for you and the team you’ve built. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with all of us, it’s truly inspiring!

    When you foster a healthy give/take culture with your employees, your employees want to keep that going. It shows that you treat your employees as just that...employees rather than just workers. You teach them well and pay them accordingly and give them any resource they want or need to thrive. They work hard for your company and are proud of the work they do. We need more people like you out there to help foster this culture!! I always enjoy your content. Keep on keeping on. 😊

    That's how my very first Supervisor was in the therapy department. She developed a family like atmosphere She treated us as equals, friends and professionals. She took care of us, had our back when it came to the company IE Hospital. That was the one and only time in my 33-year career that it was a family like atmosphere. Only one person left our department in a 10-year time span. When she retired everything disintegrated and it was a horrible place to work

    My husband is retired Air Force, and when he was active duty, there was a wealth of help and support for both the enlisted and their families. If a person got themselves into financial trouble, they could get help. The military helped with college. Our base was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1991, and we lost everything. After arriving at our new base, the base loaned us plates and silverware, thick pads to sleep on, pillows, blankets, etc. until we could get our own. Though the military isn't a private company, they help their own with so many things that a lot of companies don't do for their employees. What a wonderful company James Butler has!

    This is... man. The only complaint I've ever even come close to having with your channel is the 15 an hour minimum. Beyond that, given the amount of assistance your company is willing and able to give to struggling employees makes up for it. The community, the culture, sounds beyond anything I've ever experienced at any job ever. I got fired from my latest job for telling a customer the truth and saving them money. I'm not sure I've ever worked for an honest employer and I already know you operate differently. Your videos give me hope.

    I'm in my mid-50s, and have held more than a few jobs over the years. Some employers were large corps, and some were local businesses. I've never come across a company run the way you do yours. You do truly outstanding work.

    This story reminds me of all the stories my grandparents would tell me about the culture post ww2. People supported people, created communities and shared ideals. Those values get passed on to the next generation with hopes that the cycle perpetuates as you uplift everyone. The days when the boss wouldn’t ask you to do anything he wouldn’t. That makes a camaraderie amongst workers. Inspiring story and so much respect to you for cultivating a culture. When you feel like family there’s nothing you are not willing to do to make sure you all win. Again much respect.

    Absolutely excellent concept. In 45 years of working, I had 2 jobs that had some of the ideology that you have. I was very young (18 Female), in a male dominated field. In the 4 years at that company, the comraderie and teamwork was the most important aspect of our environment. Everyone stayed to get the job done. It allowed me to learn every facet of the company. Unfortunately, the company was sold to a large organization. Broke my heart because i loved that company. To this day it was the most important lesson that i learned. There are jobs and there are careers. That company was my career and i tried to tske as much of that idealogoy with me into every position i held. Sadly corporate America does not even come close.

    I work for a particular department within a city government. While the city might not have a community like that, we work very hard on my department to be like that. From the senior managers who will stop what they are doing to talk to you, to the new hires being placed with more senior agents to help them, to anybody being able to ask from help and getting it from someone. It make me proud of what we do and it's also what has kept me there when I've had those bad days that makes you say the hell with this and quit.

    I was a Navy Corpsman in the late 70's until the early 90's. When I first came in, Navy "chiefs" (E-7 and above) were looked up to, were given the reins to build, guide, teach the new ones. They taught us.. he'll, they taught me to change the oil in my car. It was a wonderful experience. I was proud to be a part of this. By the time I got out in the early 90's they had taken away their power, so many things changed. Yeah, it was never as good. I got out. Your story reminded me of how good it "was". Keep it up, you're awesome. And the people who work with you are indeed proud to be there.

    The rest of this beautiful story aside, that one simple sentence where you said "...so, sat down, and started listening to what he had to say" was what impacted me the most. Just taking the time to actively listen to somebody and show that you care IS the culture you have created at your company, and it really shows in this story as everyone around you emulated this behavior all on their own.

    We need more companies like yours. I’ve been working for 32 years and so far I have yet to work for a company that does this much for an employee. At the most, they offer discounts in a few of these areas. By the way, I’m an excellent employee who excels and stays with a company.

    Your company is an absolute gem. I've never heard of a company run like that. My current employer gave me a week of training, a supervisor who was gone more than he was around and sent me on my way. Got yelled at 100 times for mistakes. Got yelled at for doing something the owner of the company told me to do, by the owner of the company. This company is generally a "throw you in and see if you can tread water long enough to figure out how to swim" kind of company.

      I have had jobs like you have now, my best advice, Get out of there as soon as you can. There's no reason to be miserable, even if you really enjoy what you are doing, There's no reason you can't do what you're doing somewhere else. If you don't really enjoy it find a better fit for you. I mean hopefully move up in your next job, but it sounds like to me flipping mcburgers would be better If you're treated with respect.

      I just got out of a job like that. They hired me quick when I needed it, but otherwise poor communication. Also, scolding for doing something one way when they didn't tell me the way they wanted it done.
      Got out of there after only 10 weeks. Had to make sure I had another job lined up first, but I got out as soon as I could.

    Sir, I have to say that I truly wished I was somewhere closer to your business, I would work for you and your family in a heartbeat. I hate saying this as many people use it as way of an excuse I suppose, but as a disabled veteran, I have struggled with employment. I won't publicly go into details about myself and my situation, but it truly seems like you and your company care about and strives to better your employees! This is truly amazing! Thank you for what you do! I wish more places had the same mindset.

    Yes, I run a company that's going that way and I've always wanted my company to be like that. What's reassuring is that I can now see it's more than a dream it's a reality.
    Mine is smaller scale so far but we will get there soon.

    I cry when I listen to most of your employee stories, while the company I work for now has been a blessing in more ways than I could've asked, when it comes to the structure and everyone coming together and working together with no strings attached or held over anyone's head(the current situation i feel I'm in) I have to admit it sounds like a fantasy. It pulls at my heart, but pulls with longing, of dreaming to be accepted into such an environment with so many opportunities, esp, it sounds like, for those who'd have few, if any opportunities otherwise, I can't even find people who are friendly like that in day to day much less where I work .I grew up in Fayetteville, but sadly, it held nothing for me but negative times I'm now in Ohio and, will, I dunno, where I was going with this except to say it's awesome and awe inspiring. Keep it up, it's nice to have a good reason to cry with your channel, even if it is bittersweet, almost with envy! 🥰

      I get what you're saying, I've had a lot of jobs. Most of them I didn't really feel like I was a good fit, a few I felt like I was doing an adequate job, I think I always wanted something like what his company has to where I really feel like part of the family.

    I worked for a small company that was owned by a tyrant. He used to brag about the employees' death benefit: He'd say that if any employee actually worked themselves to death, he'd pay for their funeral. Not one employee showed up for this owner's funeral. Not even me, and I was his daughter.

    As a travelling piano and violin teacher, this is what I love about the company I work with. My bosses at the local, and national level want to see everyone succeed, give us resources to improve, and are always available to help solve any issues, or make a plan for us to be better teachers.
    I love this kind of thing. We had a company bowling night a while back, and it was a lovely experience

    Man, that's gotta feel like being a dad and watching your kid grow up to be a great person. That's a huge accomplishment that your company culture is that strong and well-oiled. Great stuff.
    Edit: the culture at the company I work for is pretty damn good too. It's a small company of about 6 guys doing chemical spray. I handle the IT stuff, as well as customer and job records [data entry]. Owner [my boss] helped me to get a truck & get it repaired and told me "pay me back when you're able, you need good transportation." The guy has a very fatherly vibe to him, though he never had kids himself.

    I recently started at a local accounting firm in Raleigh. When I found out about the company paid health benefits. The level of support I’m receiving for my training and the thought that I was brought on for something other than my ability to crunch numbers has been such an amazing feeling for me. I know I’m here until I retire

    In my local Spirit Halloween store we all function as a community. We look after each other, make sure we are doing ok and help each other when we can. I wasn’t feeling well my last shift and my boss was fine with me going home about an hour and a half early. I went to the break room to wait for my ride and ended up falling asleep for a good half hour, he came in as I woke up, I told him I accidentally feel asleep and he told me to not worry about it.
    He didn’t care about my productivity, the fact I fell asleep, the fact I wasn’t working. He only cared about the fact I wasn’t doing well and wanted me to take it easy and get more rest. That is what a good boss is to me. Someone who cares about the individual over what their job is.

    Man, I’d come work with you and your crew any day just based on the stories I hear about work morale and how good of an environment the shop is. I work for a union company in Canada, most times it can be difficult and not have that type of work environment, but I’m lucky to work with a smaller shop of a bigger company and we have real good work morale and work environment.

    One day, I want to own a business. Right before Covid, I was on track to do that before I had to move states and everything changed. Hearing how you run your business, and the culture you have created with your crew; it inspires me. I want to own a company that people are happy to come to, and I want them to know that I will take care of them. I know I will have to start small, but I have plans to grow. As a boss, you should be focused on taking care of your employees so they can take care of the customers. Also, fuck Karens and their attitude of "the customer is always right" because....well....they rarely are.

      Another thing I heard, but far rarely than "the customer is always right" , is to educate your customer. Don't talk down to to them or assume they won't get it. But explain to them what is cost effective and WHY. YOU WILL GET A REPEAT CUSTOMER.

    I am wondering how you can afford all this, incredible! I am the CFO of a medium-sized tourism company, so I am intimately aware of the finances of running a business of that scale. Sure we have competitive salaries, commissions, and give out free holiday trips when they go unsold, but if we started giving out free housing, college, and diets we would go bankrupt in a week! The margins in sewage must be huge.

    James I have to say that I wish my company had this type of enviroment. Not to say that who I work for is bad or anything, its just its not this tight nit as your company is. You have done well to foster an enviroment that is self healing and self reliant, not with out its struggles of course. Great job man. You havent built a company you have built a community.
