This episode is somewhat different from what we normally do. Usually, the episodes are about battles, confrontations or individuals in war. This time, it is about an ENTIRE WAR. The title track of the upcoming Sabaton Album 'the Great War' is about the horror and overall experience of The Great War. We have showcased a number of songs now, so if you're certain that it is to your liking, make sure to go over to our Patreon site to check out the exclusive 'History Edition' of 'The Great War' album! -> www.patreon.com/sabatonhistory
Cheers!
I was thinking about becoming a $40 patron to get the album but it says I have to have 3 months of that tier but the album releases next month. If I become a $40 patron now will i receive the album on a date after the release or am i too late
Sabaton History Can you cover the Falklands war (Back in Control). Thank you.
Sabaton History plz stop toying with us just give us the music PLEEAASSEEE!!!!!!😫
Is there a song for the Doolittle raid? I always fond it interesting what they went through just to basically slap the Japanese in their proverbial face
Also good going with the new song guys looking forward to it.
I like this episode so very much! Exactly expresses my feelings about this new scale of pointless war. Super excited about the song, too.
Hey it's you! I really like your Sabaton lyric videos, will you make more?
Hallo,I want to say dankeschön to you, for all Videos you make for Sabaton and speziell that one ,, Für immer “ von meiner Doro.#Respekt für dich.LG Alex🤘
Oh hello there😁👍🏻
Eah , your lyrics videos are cool !👋🏻

Hmm this song doesn't sound so great for now...
Kinda sounds like another song I feel like we have heard before
"It was a war, a Great War, a war so great there won't be a need for a Second one!" - Bill Wurtz

well that didn't age well...

I am so glad I participated on patreoning Sabaton History. It is one of the few times in my life I believe my money goes somewhere where it matters. Because this channel is awesome for all fans of Sabaton, Indy and also everyone who enjoys history behind extraordinary masterpieces of songs Sabaton makes. Thanks Sabaton. Thanks Indy.
Yes
Thanks a lot for your support! We keep saying this, but it's true: Its thanks to you and everyone else on Patreon that we're able do this! You're a hero!
If Sabaton records a cover of Iron Maiden's "Paschendale" it would be the best cover song in the history of history.
I've been thinking the same thing
"So much death. What can man do against such reckless hate?"
--Theoden, King of Rohan.
Seems fitting for the situation of the world at any point in history.
Totally play that song at every single concert.
Tolkien did fought in WW1 and survived despite losing all of his friends.
@@ryudo777 Basically, The Lord of the Rings was just the Great War rebooted in magic lands.
@@Death_Korps_Officer while it's not explicitly confirmed (so far as I know), there's a theory that the Dead Marshes were inspired by the dead left on No-Man's Land, submerged in mud and water.
The little bit I heard hit me like the first time I heard Sabaton: Pride, intensity, sorrow, and strength all at once.
You guys continue to create even better music! I’m super excited for the album and can’t wait till it drops!
The price of a mile and the cliffs of galipolli always make me shed a tear... Even with the epicness of the song...
"There is no enemy, there is no victory. Only boys who lost there lives in the sand"

As much as the Great War is eventually overshadowed by WW2, I would say it had a larger role in shaping the world we live in today. As empires died and came apart at the seams, and the Entente powers carved up territories for Mandates, we can still see ongoing conflicts at these arbitrary and incomprehensible borders. Several of the countries that arose from the shattered empires no longer exist, such as Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. And, as Indy will always remind us, it was the start of modern war. The only thing great about the Great War was it's scope and scale. It was the proof of concept for the dark depths humanity could descend to, and later did, recklessly and blindly dived headfirst into twenty years later, thinking that they knew better.
That's deep
WW1 was just the base for future WW2. One can't exist without another. Together they reshaped our world and wrote modern rules for war and politics. WW1 is a lil bit overshadowed, sure, but not that much
It also brought out about the emergence of modern day super powers. After WWI, America started to become an important nation when it came to international affairs (as seen by the collapse of the Stock Market and the Great Depression, and how America helped countries start to pay off their debts). Of course, WWII solidified America’s presence as a superpower.
@@howardbaxter2514 USA doesn't really matter here. Americans were fighting in conflicts way before ww1, every politician already knew they were a strong player in the world, ww1 just showed the same thing to european citizens.
ww1 and ww2 were mostly european conflicts, usa was just trying to strengthen its influence in Europe and that's about it really. Atleast in European Theatre. WWs reshaped the european world, talking about usa in this context isn't right kinda
@@thebigsam The US did almost nothing in WWI. We basically showed up as the relief pitcher in the 9th inning on the last out.

What i have listened to so far sounds pretty much the same as the last stand
From those short snippets this might be new favorite Sabaton song ever!
The beginning of this song is nothing short of EPIC!
From the snippets of this and the snippets of the Red Baron I think I'm gonna like the Red Baron more, I'm still gonna absolutely love this one though from the sounds of it.
This song may overtake Fields of Verdun as my second favorite Sabaton song (nothing will ever top To Hell and Back for me).
@@MrFaorry the red baron came out an hour ago
"what was so great about it after all?" only the scale and scope. and the day it ended.
Thank you Sabaton for giving music such a powerful meaning🤘
Thank you, Indy and Pär, for another great history lesson! I am learning more by watching this channel than I ever did in school. The clip from The Great War sounds awesome; it left me wanting to hear the rest. I have a feeling it will become a crowd favorite and I hope to hear it when I see you in Atlanta!
I can listen to these lads talking about history literally everyday.
But those snippets that are sneaking in these videos are killing me with hype!
11:13 this made me shed a tear
Sabaton is the only band that with it's songs can make me wanna headbang with the music but at the same time make me pay close attention to the lyrics and the story they tell , guys you are my favorite band I can't wait for this album
I can't even imagine what those men went through for years. However, I am so thankful for their sacrifices.
Great episode again guys! This is a simply amazing channel. I love it so much! ❤❤
Thankful for what? The Great War was pointless. It's just sad that they died for nothing
Here we go again! Thank you! Sounds good.
The best Poster cover by Sabaton by far
The Great War, also known as the War to End All Wars. I wish it happened like that.
An English rifleman had a chance to change history. But he let him walk
@@kyledorsty906 It would had happened, no matter what.
Another Passchendaele song? :O One of the most touching battles for me form WWI. I didn't think we're getting another song about this topic since we've had it already with Price of a Mile, but here it is. Amazing!
13:36 -> snippet
Okay, that little snippet of the song was amazing. So much emotion in those few lines that perfectly address the horrors of the "Great War".
In the Netherlands the Great war is called the first world war. Because luckily the Netherlands didn't really suffer in the first one. In the Second one we would. So for us the great war refers to the second world war. Anyway. Amazing song so far, great series on Sabaton's best songs. Keep it up!
Anyone else hyped through the roof for red baron being released tomorrow ?
Christos Sym WAIT WHAT REALLY?
@@thomasvernon2531 aye
Yep. Been eagerly awaiting for June 14th to come since they announced the new single was going to be released.
I think what Sabaton are doing has great value beyond the point of making amazing break neck music. With their songs they make sure that all the sacrifices of history and bygone conflicts are not forgotten by the younger generation.
The world we live in today was forged by those wars in which men and women died and suffered. Especially the album "Heroes" which focuses on individual persons committing heroic deeds, which they deserve to be remebered by. I know school should be there to teach that, but to most younger people (including myself when I was young) get bored in school, but get interested if it is done in the way Sabaton are doing it. I have high respects for them, not just for their musicianship but also for telling these stories!
Thanks for your kind words! We try the best we can!
That whole speech from Indy gave me chills! Love it!
Can you still do a video on "The Price Of A Mile"? It's one of my favorite Sabaton songs, a beautifully written song about a truly ugly battle. Similar in vein are Inmate 4859 and Winged Hussars
The Great War, World War 1, The War to end all Wars, but less commonly known as The Great Family Feud.
Proud patreon right here!
Glad to know Im supporting this channel and my favorite band!
Thanks A LOT for your support!!
From all of the Bulgarian Panzer Battalion. We love SABATON. And we Love Sabaton History. KEEP THE GOOD WORK GUYS... We hope to see you soon.
I had put this on The Great War channel on November 8 last year, but after watching this episode I felt like I had to post it here as well.
That's how great this episode was.
On November 11th, 1918. On the 11th hour. A soldier heard the news.
He leaped for joy. Dancing where he stood. His heart knew no greater joy.
"Huzzah! Huzzah! The war is over! We can go home! Huzzah! Huzzah!"
When he came to his senses. And looked all round. His world abruptly halted.
On his left were hundreds of dead. On his right, hundreds more. All were as still as statues.
Before the 11th hour. An attack was made. To breach the enemy trenches.
No one knew why. No one wanted to go. But everyone went in the end.
When all was said and done. When the fighting finally ceased. One would think the date was 1914.
For no ground was gained. The enemy never budged. And all that was left was this one lone soldier.
All whom he laughed with. All whom he struggled with. All have now gone to meet their maker.
He cried in disbelief. Weeping where he sat. His heart knew no greater pain.
"Huzzah. Huzzah. The war is over. We can go home. Huzzah. Huzzah."
A noise in front of him. A now-former enemy soldier. Making his way to him.
They both stared at each other. Waiting to see who would make the first move. Then his counter part held a chocolate bar.
"I was saving these for when the war ended. But I saw you sitting there and thought you might need a friend. Want one?"
The soldier was silent, trying to make up his mind. In the end he shrugged. And took the offered bar.
Man, I'm caught up now. I can no longer binge watch these. Gotta wait like everybody else.
The wait is part of the fun though
@@SabatonHistory It sure makes the next episode that much more exciting when it comes out! If it was an infinite supply then it would have less value.
My favorite historical battle to study in an amazing song again is awesome and the power of the new track is so immense its just so unbelievable and I cant wait for the album to release. Outstanding job guys!!!
Really looking forward to the album. Because of this channel I've been following World War 2 and I'm slowly working my way through The Great War. Both are so well researched and I am learning so much that was never covered when I was in school. Great job guys and keep up the amazing work.
*Great War ends*
Europe: Finally we can have peace.
Stalin: Lol, no.
Hitler: Lmao, nice joke
Been listening to my Sabaton playlist at work today, can't wait for the new album! And these videos really are fantastic, keep up the great work guys 👍
Love this channel so much. I'm relying on my knowledge of the Great War and Sabaton's songs to study for my history test
Should be fairly adequate
Oh my word... they've actually done it. They've actually made the new best Sabaton album! :D \,,/
The suspense is killing me!!!!!! Just release it already!
One of the things that always reminds me of just how horrific the war was came from a letter a soldier wrote home. He described being on watch and seeing a friend of his stuck in barbed wire who he thought was dead started waving at him and as he approached he saw dozens of rats feasting on his dead friend causing the illusion of his friend waving at him.
Kinda hoping you guys will remaster Price of a Mile on this album.
This is one of my favorites from the album. Thanks as always for the great history breakdown.
Only three words to describe the little teaser of the song: epic, heavy awesome...
Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!
That is SUCH a catchy chorus!!! CANT WAIT!
This song is going to be the Carolus Rex of this album, not just because it's the title track, but the cruel and epic sound of it. This is the song that will make all of us raise our fists in the air and headbang untill our necks hurt. Thank you Sabaton, this is epic
The first time I heard this song on the album teaser I was hyped for it, then this episode makes it already legendary!
Between WW1, Bolshevik Revolution, WW2, and all the purges in between its amazing how Russia's population survived
many didnt but there had to be entire generations lost. Where in the US the baby boom increased the population the Soviet baby boom must have broke even
Damn, only heard a few seconds and I LOVE IT! Great episode too!
One question, how did indy got so much information on wars, i saw your great war channel, the amount of information is insane. For a world war history fanatic like me, it's almost a dream come true, and indy is now my new super hero. " He who orates the greatest of war, in a temporary military base, wearing a muffler".
Can't wait to see and hear you play in Kuopio
I just have one request. Would you JUST TAKE MY DAMN MONEY ALREADY?!
But seriously, we need this album NOW! Can't wait! 🤘😁🤘
Tomorrow and July 19th can’t get here soon enough. I’m dying to listen to Red Baron tomorrow, and of course the whole album in July.
+howard baxter Red Baron is premiering tomorrow? Gonna have to check it out! 🤘😁🤘
+howard baxter I just listened to it for half an hour straight. Good God, it's the closest I've ever heard to perfection! 😁🍺
M.D.Metal I just woke up this morning and you don’t understand how excited I was to see that they released it.
HIGHER, THE KING OF THE SKY
HE’S FLYING TOO FAST AND HE’S FLYING TOO HIGH
Amazing song, I love it so much and think that it's been absolutely hit like "Night witches"! Thank you for your music and this channel, it's cool idea🖤
Thanks!
Whenever I listen to the song The Great War, yes the music itself is awesome but it brings a tear to my eye everytime. WWI was a horrid horrible war.
Can’t wait to here all the song on this album! Ik it’s gonna be epic
The snippet sounds great, riktigt bra! And you should open with the titeltrack on this tour, to start 2 hours of the great war! Kiitos, c ya in Kuopio 25/7 ;)
"Passchendeale.
1917.
No man's land.
Not a great place to be. "
Yeah that pretty much sums it up
Great episode! I am still hoping for a Vimy Ridge song though =/
The song is great.
Thank God for this channel.
God isn't making this channel
I would love to take a history class from this man.
You guys have another masterpiece on your hands. Chalk this album up there with Carolus Rex, The Last Stand, Heroes, Coat of Arms, and Attero Dominatus for your masterpieces.
This was really interesting to watch - Indy has done over 200 episodes on the Great War, week by week, and had to sum it up in just one episode here. And he did a great job. Loving Sabaton History. I've purchased the Great War album.
We really appreciatte your loyalty, hope to see you in more comments.
Imagine them playing this song live with an entire Orchestra. Id lose my shit!
so stoked for this album!!!!
This channel is the best thing since sliced bread - I love it
The wait for the album is killing me
Notification squad reporting as ordered! All the hair on my body rose up when i heard the snippet
This episode was so fucking good. The production on it is superb and Indy's history is captivating. Super pumped for the album!
Thanks!!
Grymt avsnitt, längtar till albumet släpps. Kommer bli årets soundtrack på semestern :)
Holy fuck, one second in listening to the few seconds of tease and my hairs stood right straight up. Can't wait for the new album!!!
Damn you slow internet, you would deny me this great video
Same problem here dude😂😂🤣
legit cant wait for this new album...these little secs of the songs get me so hyped
The CWGC did a great story about a father and son who died at Passchendaele, the son was first killed and the father died searching for him. Their bodies were never found after the war and they are memorialized at Tyne Cot.
We need a sabaton song about the belgian resistance in 1914, "a country, not a highway"
To be honest this is just sabaton giving us some good old edging and i love it.
That intro is chilling!!
May we hope that warfare on the scales of ww1 and ww2 never happen again
Amen to that
Unfortunately, we can only hope. Only time can tell for sure.
oh yes! just by that intro i know i will love this song
I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting VERY post-'Brave New World' Iron Maiden vibes from the snippets of this song. CANNOT WAIT!!! 😍
The Price of a Mile is still the perfect WWI song for me. Just captures the futility of the whole war and the absolute pointless violence and death of the "Great" War.
I can already tell this is going to be one of my new favorite Sabaton songs
Paschendale was actually the first battle of WWI I ever heard of by name. Thanks to Maiden.
Goes to show that music can be a better teacher than school at times. I have learned more about history from bands like Sabaton, Maiden, 1914 and Christopher Lee (seriously the Charlemagne albums are really good) than I ever learned in school.
I mean, I get why school can't teach that much. You only got a really limited amount of time and there is a LOT of history to go through.
But it's nice that there are other avenues to learn through nowadays than just school. Be it music, youtube videos or even the dreaded wikipedia. Those are all really good places to start learning. Once you're interested you can go on with your own research.
I cant wait the full song !!
EVEN SONGS THAT THEY SHARE THAT I DONT LIKE, I LIKE THEM!!! that tells you alot about this album
That sneak peak sounded great, Par! Thanks to you and Indy for this episode!
First this channel starts at my birthday and now the new album cones out at the date of my graduation
There must be a connection, right?
Aaaaaand I'm rewatching the great war
Enjoy
Oh, July can't come soon enough. It'd be awesome if there was a deluxe edition of the album with all the WW1 songs you've done added as bonus tracks.
another piece of song, to make us a little more impatient😱😱😱. I agree with the reflection of the video, there was no peace that should have arrived, another horror came. Thanks for the work.!!👍👍👍
I think WWI is proof that true peace will never come.
Snippet lyrics
Great War
And I cannot take more
Great toll
I keep on marching on
Ok im stupid
"Passchendaele, 1917, no Man's Land, not a great place to be." This sounds like the beginning of a Monty Python sketch about a British soldier trying to make tea well under enemy fire
Not long back I watched a documentary on WWI and it used terms like madness and insanity to describe the events thereof, just like Indy did. When I heard those terms, both then and now, I thought back to the refrain of Sabaton's Lifetime of War. "Has man gone insane? A few will remain who'll find a way to live one more day....It spreads like disease, there's no sign of peace...cause millions to bleed...." What was so great about the Great War? The great death toll coupled with the great stupidity that caused it. War is one of the greatest affronts to humanity, no doubt, but that was something else. God have mercy.
