      It looks like both the car and van drivers slammed on their brakes unecessarily. Best thing to control speed in that situation is with the gas pedal (either more gas or take your foot off the pedal) and do it as early as possible so people can slot in smoothly. Van driver was going too fast before they could see the carriageway to judge the gaps but they should have just kept going instead of nearly stopping on the sliproad. And the car driver's actions. Probably not the easiest sliproad for either driver to see because of the curve but there are much worse sliproads around.

  • @Scoupe400
    @Scoupe400 Před měsícem

    18 can be split into sensible versus technically correct.
    Very few car drivers are aware of all HwC rules, especially ones that aren’t directly car related. But in this instance the bike is allowed to filter.
    The bike is aiming to run between lanes of the stopped traffic and before it arrives there, it’ll pass the car on the easiest side to begin filtering.
    Logically it’s safer to filter once the traffic is stopped. Let the car find its place. But technically filtering is allowed at slow speeds and hence many bikers will take that rule and apply it everywhere. Therefore, technically the car cannot change lanes without ensuring it is safe to do so, being aware of close proximity traffic, especially those moving from behind and even those allowed to filter. On test it’d be an immediate fail for the car.
    But in the common world of UK roads, the vast majority drive well away from the rules and just point where they want to go. So logically the bike shouldn’t be pushing the gap until all vehicles in front are stopped. He can then filter past the vehicles, including the furthest front vehicle (1) as long as it’s not a pedestrian crossing.
    After the cars mistake the bike should just proceed. But he’s thrown his hands up in frustration and attempted to make the car aware he’s there… but unlikely the car knows why. None of this would be acceptable on a test or to plod, but it’s not exactly road rage, he just looks fed up and carries on to the front.

      @loftyintentions1985 Před měsícem

      Probably not considering you're not supposed to change lanes when approaching lights. The manoever reduces the amount of braking distance the rider originally had and then has to brake harder. My bad. They both change lanes at the same time. Maybe the driver isn't indicating but it's hard to see.

    • @Scoupe400
      @Scoupe400 Před měsícem

      Got nothing to do with choosing lanes between the two of them. The car shouldn’t be randomly changing lanes without looking behind to ensure it’s safe to do so. Unfortunately very few people are aware that where that traffic queues, the bike is allowed to filter. The bike will be aiming to run down the broken line between lanes. So the last thing the bike expects, and the last thing the car should be doing is changing its mind.
      But cars do. And the bike has to be aware of that until everything is stopped.
      And the throwing up of arms is frustration. I don’t think it’s road rage. It just looks like fed up - hence he then carries on to the front. Drama over.
      In summary the car has absolutely made a mistake. But secondary to that the bike shouldn’t be pushing the gap until it’s safe to do so - taking the extra steps of caution and ensuring he’s been seen is all the better.

  • @martinday2815
    @martinday2815 Před měsícem

    No 15. Humps installed like this don't help much. 1) If you have lights on or running lights, the movement up and then down could make it seem like a flash, to say I let you out ( I know, don't bother going there with flashing to let people out, fact is, it happens) 2) by slowing down, the other driver see this and reassess the gap, not accounting for speed up after the hump. Personally, knowing this I try and drive with this in mind on badly designed roads like this.

    First clip is NOT careless driving : on the contrary , positioning out for a left hand bend is an advanced technique , taught at police college , to extend one's view further around a bend - on sighting the oncoming vehicle , the driver correctly sacrificed his cornering position . While the camera driver can be forgiven for his ignorance , it is astounding that the police , or a court , would not know this .
