$20k DIY Modified Subaru VS $200K Lamborghini

- We’ve been modifying this Subaru over the last 6 months to try and make it faster than a Lamborghini for £15,000. Now it’s finally time to see if it can be done.
Over the last 6 months, we’ve fitted an uprated clutch, a set of coilovers, some sticky semi slicks, stripped 136kg of weight, upgraded the brakes, fitted stiffer anti-roll bars and then finally we pushed the car from 196bhp to 304bhp. That means we’ve spent just £9065 of our budget INCLUDING the car.

"Donut went through 2 of these" That made me crack up way too hard
I've rewatched it 5 or 6 times😂
Wait timestamp where they said that??
@@wontonii232 at the very end
To be fair, they're testing at willow springs which is a way more demanding course than what they're using.
But still. Subarus are bombs.
@@projectporvette1914 plus James ran out of talent and killed the car
I kind of hope the Subaru doesn't win at first so you have to fit a massive turbo. Let's get the thing to 400hp+.
Then swap a couple of enginges, like Donut did, right?
And areo dynamic. But this place does not look like the Lambo can stretch it's legs so the Subaru has a chance.
Thanks for not spoiling
nah that's non sense
If it going bigger horsepower then engine need rebuild and stronger internal materials to withstand higher horsepower
you guys did all that without blowing it up, pretty impressive really.
The donut ones blew up because they ignore the break in period on rebuilt motors and didn't even do a service check before thrashing them.
Donut better take notes💀
@@CUSTARDP00DLETK I think 2 guys driving a tiny cool damp go kart track vs 6 guys hot lapping a huge race track in the desert
@@yeahitskimmel Sure, that could explain one blown engine, but 3? Either those engines suck or they were doing something wrong.
@@ricardoamendoeira3800 I think California is just harsh to Subarus anyway and that’s why they’re not as reliable, but yea donut have been negligent in taking care of them
we need a season 2 of this it was so good to watch
I hope they keep Bananaru till next year and have a crack at that 1:16.7 time in summer conditions. Not as series, but just for curiousity. Excellent end of excellent series! Grats with success and great car.
I was about to comment the same. I'm interesting to know the difference between winter and summer. I feel like the gap have to more important for the Lambo than the Subaru.
Yes, what does summer in UK mean. Pushing Subie's in heat is another study in itself here in the states. IAT concerns, front mount inner cooler, tune, fuel type and ratio, timing.....
Nothing to see 100°F on track at 6pm here in summer.
Scott is the Bear Grylls of Automotive
I'm so upset you beat me to it 🤣. I'm gonna call him bear wheels
Bare front grills
But he never talks about drinking his own pee.
Instead of drinking his own piss he licks the racetrack
So you're saying this video is faked?
Well done boys! I'm happy that it happened but a bit sad it's over. This series really established the tone and quality of this channel.
I’ve only just stumbled upon this channel, but already loving the content, Subarus knackered BMWs… this is like a direct feed from my brain 🤣
This channel is amazing, you are lucky you stumbled upon it!
Now you need to have a competition between Bananaru and Donut's Hi/Lo Subaru😄
That would be the greatest crossover
Clearly the wagon is the superior platform. :)
This was my first though when I saw Donut is doing Subis too :)
How epic would it be?
They’re already stealing their views with the copied thumbnails, lol. How much more do they want?
@@Lavasioth seethe
i actually really like overdrive. i do think driven media is a banger of a name but so is overdrive. excited for the “relaunch” of the channel
overdrive is a bit of a meme though, in the sense that it's used by more generic media as saying super fast but it's actually just the unexciting cruising gear for doing 70 on the highway
Can’t believe we got amazing content like this for free on YT. This was so entertaining. Thank you guys !
Conditions can definitely make a “weaker” car more competitive. We have seen that in F1 during wet races. Would be great if you could have a rematch in summer (hot and dry) conditions. Would also be great to see extra money spent on bigger turbo and tune as suggested in last video
In the dry condition the bananaru will loose. Then, 5 grand in the engine bay
Yeah a rematch would be cool in dry conditions. But still awesome to see the bananaru beat the lambo in difficult conditions.
Give the track a good layer of snow and a Fiat Panda 4x4 would thrash the Lambo?
This, and get full coverage insurance on the lambo. That's not a car you want to crash for a balls-out track run YT comparo.
It will still murder the lambo around that small track, a bigger track would be a different story.
Would love to see a rematch in the warm, can the Subu beat 1:16?
It must be done!
Yes!
Make it happen
I think you guys should reach out to donut and have budget car Olympics. Take all the usual tests (breaking, tightest circle at a set speed, 0-60, designated pro lap time, average host lap time) and set a budget and go head to head. That would be so epic. You guys both release build videos over the course of a month and then big joint finale.
I’d like to see them run again in the summer. I think the tricky conditions really play to the Subarus strengths would be interesting to see if it can manage to keep up in the dry.
Right especially those semi slick tyres. Could have easily got a kit for the Lambo
I've really enjoyed this series. Can't wait till the next as Overdrive... Long live driven.
For the next series, get a Porsche 924 to beat a 911.
Yes!!!! This!
That’s a Brilliant idea!!!
YES! This would be so much fun to watch!
Calling out donut was the cherry on top!
Can't wait for this! 🍿
Can't help but notice you have the perfect channel name on the side of your car.
"More Fast"
I’m glad you guys found your own niche on youtube and have come up with some great original idea’s lately
This was such a fun series! Can't wait for the next series/season
This was an amazing series, good work lads
This was such a mint series, subbed!
awsome guys! thank you for the series great to watch
so hyped for season 2! my new favorite car channel!
what an amazing series this has been
Guys you rocked it! It was awesome following this series, because you showed each step, what to focus on and what were the differences after each change. Keep up the incredible work, I'm keen to watch more and I'm thrilled to imagine how better it could still become 🤘🤘🤘 cheers from Brazil
This has been my favourite series on CZcams, ever! It has been really entertaining 6 months, I have always been waiting for the new video. It was 101% worth it and it has been a blast. Now I kinda wanna know how fast can you make the Bananaru with extra 6k. Sad to see the Driven name gone but Overdrive is gonna show the Driven podcast who's better. Thank you for this amazing series.
Been waiting for this instalment 🏁🏎
Loved this series! The Subaru should now be the reward for winning challenges - great fun!
Loved the series! Can't wait for #2.
Enjoyed this series so much, thank you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That's a big achievement. I'd love to see what some tuning for the Lambo would do... Tires, ecu remap
its not their car
I mean if it was mine I was letting them borrow, I'd allow it 😂
It would also help if they didnt do the conclusion in zero degree weather as they tip toe the lambo around because it's only RWD on road tyres. Would like to see what the result is in spring/summer.
@@squeakers27 did they say the Lambo was rwd? I'm like 99.9% sure that Murcielago is AWD.
@@vr6one Yes, the Murcielago and Aventador both were only offered as AWD, unlike the V10 siblings Gallardo and Huracan.
Congrats chaps! you are the real deal!
Thank you for the series, it has been such a good time watching it! Love guys
Loved following the series, you guys are awesome content creators. Look forward to more like this
Question is: will the engine survive the massacre??! 🤫
Should be fine for a few laps lol. Question isn't if but when it'll explode. Not sure if the euro spec engines are stronger but the USDM motors are brittle AF
First of all, great series, loved it.
What I noticed is that the semi sliks probely have a much softer compound than the lambo's tyres. Which is a huge advantage in these conditions.
I would really love to see a rematch in the summer to see the difference and to be honest I was hoping he would lose and see the new turbo.
Wow, I really loved every video! Honestly, I got quite sad when I heard it was over.
Really looking forward to the next season! (would love to see it as soon as possible ;) )
Thank you for such great content, keep it going and I am sure you will go far!!!
This series as a whole has been amazing! Also, you can see the excitement of you two seeing your bananaru flying through the course and finally winning the challenge after 6 months of hard work and suffering. Kudos!
Hope to see a season 2 of sorts with kinda the same premise. Congrats, really!
can't wait for this banger
Lambo had no semi-slicks....if I remember correctly there's currently no tire manufacturer that has semi slicks for the Murcielago. So the semi slicks on the Subi make all the difference.
oh yes! someone say it. tires are so important
really cool series, and definitely hope to see more of these in the future, with different super/hyper cars etc. keep it up!!
congrats on this series!
Both had gopros on board, do follow up ep comparing the telemetry
Awesome work 👏 guys I was almost willing it over the line 🏁🏁🏁.
Scott's face was a picture too! 🤣
Absolutely LOVED this series! So pleased you got the win! Brilliant!! 👏 👏 😊😊
Amazing guys really ive been following from the begining and youre job and efort has really payed up to it, ill take my hat off
The moment of truth has arrived
It’s like listening to Bear Grills driving a car
Really enjoyed this series, keep it up
Really enjoyed this series, so thanks and congratulations on the result 🏁
This has been an amazing series, and after watching this and Donut's (still ongoing) newest season of HiLow, we NEED to see all 3 Imprezas in a showdown. The Bananaru is definitely gonna need a turbo upgrade for that.
To be fair I think it could take it to Lowcar, Highcar is in another league.
Please keep the More Fast series going but please keep them consistent
Amazing series!!
This series has brought me much joy. I'm impressed with the achievement and can't wait to see season 2!
Donut Media and you guys upgrading WRXs and driving the absolute beans off them, makes me proud to be a Subaru owner with my (base model) 07 Impreza, even after the painful experience of needing a replacement engine.
Donut's series and all of the accompanying commenters who've had to replace engines, have almost totally scared me off of wanting to buy an old wrx.
Even if you don't end up having to replace the engine, it seems like oil starvation would do a number on all the bearing surfaces after a while.
Even so, there is a part of me that doesn't care and still wants one.
Very surprised to hear you’ve kept a Subaru stock😂 I work at a general auto shop and ALL of our Subarus are modded XD
Im joining the subaru club soon but im scared of reliability so im buying a gr86 hopefully toyota touched the engine a little bit
@@NG-VQ37VHR good point. there are ways to make a subaru engine more reliable, but it isn't exactly cheap.
@@NG-VQ37VHR I owned 2 subis 01 and 03 went threw 2 engines and mine where stock never raced or pushed . Gasket problems are that common they both had less than 120k. I did fix them and last one blew engine again and just switched to the e46. They are great cars tho just a hit and miss I did take care of them with proper maintenance but just bad luck. I've heard of some with over 200k easy
Will said i will do it myself turns out he wasnt joking.
This was such an entertaining series, well done guys!! I was waiting every episode, congrats! I want more!
Crackin' mini series. Interesting and entertaining. Great job so very well done.
Fair play to you guys for beating the Lambo. Much like a rental car, when you have absolutely no fear of damage (especially in cold conditions on a tight track) it is worth a considerable chunk of time. That said on that day and those conditions the Bannanaru did the business. I for one am not ready to trade my Murci yet for a tuner car :)
Even with the fear factor out of the way, the subie would still be faster. The lambo is still faster in the straights but since it weighs half a tonne more, it is physically impossible to keep up with a stripped subaru in the corners. Maybe the outcome would be different on a bigger track with longer straights.
Don't be sad that it's over,be glad that it happened.
Fabulous job fellas. Really enjoyed it!
Gratz guys, great series.
Slippin Clutch Media
So it was a £10k budget then... 🤣
This series was very enjoyable, thanks guys! You should do it again in the spring!
This series was everything I wanted it to be. As a Subaru fanboi who visits Curborough regularly, those smiles and that excitement after some laps are EXACTLY what keeps me loving Subaru's (and Curborough) - well done guys. Mega. 😍🥰
You might need to send Donut your Subaru, they’re going through them like there’s no tomorrow.
it'd be a good shout for Lo Car too, given they've also been on a budget
Bagel media
I hope this comment gets the attention it deserves.
It's been a really enjoyable series! Loved every episode of it! Can't wait for the later episodes of "Trade Up To a Supercar"
Fantastic series!!!!!
More of this please!!!!!
I hope you guys give it another go in the warm to make sure the banaru is faster
Thought id me drawing my pension by the time i saw this
You were thinking of Project Binky my friend
At least we're the *second* most awaited car series on CZcams!
@@OVERDRIVE.studios whos first? Should have delayed another week 😉😜
This was genuinely such an amazing thing to watch and I can’t wait for season 2!
Amazing work ang great result! Was always anticipating new series of you upgrading Bananaru and now I am satisfied. One more thing - test it in June as well, let's see how ot goes! Thank you!!!
I would love to see how fast it is with the full budget used.
Little disappointed for last episode to be this short but any ways well done🤟🏼
I love you guys... thanks for all the things you done
Genuinely one of my favorite youtube videos. I loved the series boys. Great work!

Awesome great content hopefully pt2 to follow
Awesome video guys I loved it!!!
This was super fun you guys! Thank you so much. Looking forward to the next one 😁
"Donut have been through 2 of these" had me cackling, watching their series put me off Subarus but watching yours makes me want one hahahaha!
This series has been absolutely brilliant! Can't wait for season 2
Sooo happy with this series! Please make it more 😁😁
It’s incredible!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥Love you ❤
Impressive, love content like this! 💚
PLEASE keep going!! Spend the rest of the budget and see how far you can get!
Great series!
Epic - well done 👍🏻
This has been amazing can't wait for what y'all do next
what a fuckin awesome series boys! well done. loved every episode.
SUCH a good series. Rapid car! Also I agree Murcielago dream car because pointy, loud and doors go up. I loved the little jibe at Donut at the end too 😂😂
I loved this show! I Can't wait for season 2!
Lol the jab at Donut at the end 🤣🤣🤣
Amazing series! Looking forward to more!!!
amazing series, lads
loved every minute! Maybe blow the rest of the budget and go for the massive turbo just to celebrate
It reminds me of my 2014 Golf R: first checked at "315+" HP. And after the oem turbo died (whitout VW even saying we're sorry), I had a very good perf Turbo fitted (same diameter) and a very large catalytic converter (called "200"-% I guess). This cat was only used because VW could'nt provide an oem cat and not even give a date of availability.
So, my Golf was just equiped with a new and reliable non-vw turbo and a huge cat. Then I got it remapped. I asked for torque, without specifying the amount of HP "needed".
The result was a 500Nm, and power just shy of 400hp.
I had checked the performances before the turbo crashed: the car was doing 0-100km/h in around 4,8 (on average).
After the car was modified AND carefully runned in ( since many partis in the motor had been changed for new ones: 3000km!), the following figures emerged from another planet:
O-100km/h was now between 3"9 and 4"1.
And it was still a pleasure to drive anywhere anytime.
Since I love driving on snow and ice, I drove it alot in the alps in the winter and most of all, in northern Lappland. North of the artic circle, from Tromso to Kiruna and to west Finland. End january/ first weeks of february. Ice EVERYWHERE.
This was, and still is, the most enjoyable moments I had in a car in my whole life (i had many cars).
P.S. the Haldex "center" differential had to be changed at 50.000km (before the turbo death) and again at 100.000km.
Now, the car is owned by a young French car enthousiast. He reached 300km/h and more often 285 (GPS!). I have no doubt about that since that car was able of reaching 270km/h just out of the box (it had no limiter! For no known reason).
Enjoy your cars. We are petrolheads, so... make kids (you know how to do) and make them love cars.
We will survive, Gloria ;)
Great job guys!!
