i, as a farmer, needs an off-road capable car. Probably more capable than these (still too low). So i'm "stuck" buying suvs and pickups. i had a heck of a "rally stage" this week coming back from the farm. 30 kilometers of slidy and/or deep mud, sand and clay, with so much rain that some parts were deeply flooded. i was in an amarok and i had a blast making my way through the "dirt" stage of my commute that day. I also have a mitsubishi outlander gt, which has a more fun (240hp v6) engine and better handling, but i can't really toss as much in the dirt because of the much shorter suspension travel, which will bottom out if it catch ANY air or more severe bump, but i still have fun in that too.

My CVT transmission in my Kia accelerates flat no jumping around and I really like it kinda feels like driving an electric, and I don't ever feel that jerk in acceleration when gear shifts occur. I guess that's natural I drove manual before but this feels a lot smoother. I feel like complaints that it FEELS bad and awful to drive is a change is bad take. Or it's the same kinda thing that makes people like to take the mufflers off their cars because louder is better. I appreciate the sport/eco setting. Eco when cruisin, sport when you actually need to accelerate or do something. Hearing that some CVTs shift now feels shortsighted from the companies either don't use a CVT or just hope the customer base adapts to them not doing that.

coming from a background in having go-karts when i was young, first starting out with a basic cenerfugal clutch and eveuntally going to a CVT, i dont hate them, just dont particularly want it in a car cause it makes it feel even more souless than a regular automatic, HOWEVER i do see the benifit of it and would love to see manufacturers do it right personally, figuring out some way to make it easy to get to to replace it super easy would make the most sense, like in a minibike or go-kart, just a couple of bolts, a nut and maybe a few wacks of a hammer and you get the belt out and a new one in, half hour job if things go right.
