Epic CSX Downtown Spur Switcher Chase! Miami, FL

- This video is a chase of CSX Y120-27, a Hialeah / Miami Terminal yard job serving the world famous Downtown Spur. The rare schedule for this particular run afforded a full daylight chase on a piece of railroad that is otherwise served in the wee hours of the morning.
CSXT GP38-2 2791 leads the train on its round trip journey with a friend of mine, Brian at the helm doing the honors of serving these customers, all duplicated in Lance Mindheim's faithful HO scale recreation of the same line:
Ferrous Processing and Technology (6 spots of scrap gons swapped)
Miami Iron and Metal (4 spots of high sided gons)
Family and Son (Boxcars)
Sun Gas (LPG)
and the locations we visit are:
NW 36 St
FP&T house track
NW 12th Ave and the cool produce market
NW 27th Ave STREET RUNNING
Sun Gas
NW 71st St
Note: Whereas this content deals with a lot of railroad art and tagging, there may appear to be vulgar messages on the graffiti. The uploader does not endorse those messages, whatever those may be and the fact they appear on the video is in the interest of providing complete content without need for invasive editing on the content.

It's great to see young people interested in trains. I really liked the switching you filmed here. Thanks for posting.
Lance Mindheim's HO Scale replica of this area is a masterpiece.
That's the reason why I got into this whole shebang.
Cool to see Lance's layout come to life so to speak!Good job!
I love to see everyone railfanning.... So much fun...
Heck yeah, it's fun
Very interesting and enjoyable. Thanks for producing this.
18:17 That Train almost ran over that lizard!!! Last second
Greetings from New Jersey... enjoying your videos. Personally i enjoy watching switching operations more than anything, so don't be afraid to let the scene play out fully. No one will ever be bored watching. Peace
I love these type of videos. Awesome! That 4' antennae on the handheld was interesting. Lol
Smiley antenna! Thanks
I play this through my Bluetooth speaker when switching my 1x6 industrial HO layout😁 thank you
how many days a week does this switcher operate? :-)
The GP38-2 is such a great locomotive. It's a versatile engine, but to me, it's strength is in this type of work. Handled those loads easily.
Love it! I used to see this job 17 years ago when I worked overnight. It had a few more customers then.
Love seeing this type of industrial switching, it's all but gone in the UK now so this is the only way to get my fix! Great video, can't wait for more!
I heard the engineer is the best in Miami, a really nice guy ;)
Go Bulldogs!
@@TolgaEastCoast A little piece of gator died when you said that 🤣
@@MRFIXIT2870 Oh he gets mad when anyone roots against his team, especially the Canes. Oh no, you don't want to root for the canes in front of him. Was a pleasure seeing you out there! Right dude for the job.
Never heard of the Miami spur before, Nice
Thanks! Its a pretty hidden gem with some history
Terrific video. Like others have said, this area has been popularized in miniature but it just doesn’t compare to seeing it in real life, albeit in video here. Nicely produced video I’ll save to watch again later. Thanks!
Awesome Catch. Gotta love that K5LA 😄
Thumbs up! Greetings from Poland :)
Excellent work. I was in Miami this past winter and toured that area. It is MUCH rougher and tighter than I thought it would be in some places.
Thank you Matthew. I agree
Nice video! Welcome to Florida. Everyone drives like a hooligan, even the trains!
lol
CSX locals are so fun to watch. We have a lot of them here in Jacksonville FL.
Really cool that you shoot these videos and then Lance models this it's amazing it's almost like standing there on the Shelf in real life
Thanks
I like those kind of place, i dont know why but i like it lol
2:46 the worlds longest antenna
Hello. I really liked your video!
Congratulatiosn !!!
Love switching!! Great work
Thank you!
Great stuff, please keep it up.
@TolgaEastCoast thanks for the shoutout brother and I sure do miss working on the downtown spur and seeing the local trains every morning
Nice video! Lol the car behind the locomotive has LSEX marking....
Great video 👍🏼👍🏼
Very cool video!👍
Great video! Hope your Christmas was well
Thanks Andrew, went well, and I hope the same for you!
Great video
Nice, I’m gonna try and catch some FEC trains in FT Lauderdale
nice vid... and look at the gons at the scrap customer... mostly all home road cars... railroads that have customers that load cars on their rails use home road cars... so to all the modelers out there remember this if you have customers on your layout that get MTs in/loads out... don't be shy about using "company" railcars
Thanks. The industry actually has their own gons too, but CSX uses some of theirs on this job.
Great video!
I saw 2791 in Kingsport yard-hope to meet you one day fine sir :)
Very cool, thanks for sharing. Check out STKX 1244 still sporting an ACI plate!
Are some of those gondolas, old Bulk heads with side panels added? Great catch!
Super Video good Catches 🇮🇳
Great video and thanks for sharing. What did the locomotive almost run over at 18:17?
it looks like a lizard it streaks across the ground
Great video Tolga! Was really excited when I saw this video show up. Was that a lizard or something @18:20? Kinda funny.
Thank you! I didn't notice until now. Probably either a gecko or iguana.
Haha! Cool!
The graffiti on these cars is extensive, and shows enormous talent. Where do these graffiti artists do their artistry? How long dose it take to paint the elaborate works? How is it that the yellow reflectors stuck on the side of the cars, are not painted over? 2:15, 2:18, 2:24
Awesome Catches Dude! Glad to see that line isn't completely out-of-service. Do you have any plans to catch the FEC's Water Treatment Job by any chance? Or does that service run on a whenever-there's-a-need schedule?
Thanks, and not really. Already my friend Ricky TrainmanRisko has shots of it.
@@TolgaEastCoast Cool, Maybe one day I'll catch a train there. I've passed by that spur all my life and never have a ever seen a train!
Is that LSEX gondola made from an old bulkhead flatcar!?
Yup! MOPAC 52'
when will you try to go after Union Pacific? or can you not cause of where you are located?
no UP in florida
That 27 Avenue street run is right near 27 Street. The street run part is actually before (or after, depending on which direction the train is headed) the tracks get to 27th Avenue. They cross 27th Avenue at a right angle. But regardless I have crossed those tracks for years heading to SR 836 and have never seen a train on those tracks. I thought they were abandoned. What days and time does the train pass through that location?
Thanks. Usually weekdays wee hours of the morning.
@@TolgaEastCoast but apparently it comes in the daytime too since your videos were captured in the daytime. What time does it come in the day and on what days?
Exoress Delivers in the (rare) daytime event, either mornings or early afternoons. Depends which yard job is ordered to switch the customers.
Exoress Delivers weekdays favored, but I’ve caught a couple Saturday runs
Where exactly does this line start?
NW 36th St, first location in video.
Is that an iguana that runs out at 18:20?
Yes that is!!
how low can the track go! lol
Yes man I loves when you film this local! Mine checking my new video?
