  • Industrial switching along CSX's Downtown Spur in Miami and FEC Medley Lead, with an introductory set of trains at Iris Interlocking where the two major railroads in South Florida meet. Plenty of customers that I have not covered before, or at least not in the way they appear on this video. We'll see action from CSX at Ferrous Processing and Trading, and FEC at Seaboard Marine, All Florida Paper, US Foundry, and GlobeSource. Lots of EMD muscle in this over 30 minute video so turn the speakers up!

    Something else in your video, you mentioned 335 and 336 the rock ( unit train). Once again back from 1982-1985 it was just called the unit train. Usually had 2 GP40-2’s on it and about 60 cars coming out of Rinker Materials I believe. We would go on duty at Hialeah yard and drive out to Rinker to relieve the in bound crew and continue to load the rock and then when ready we would take the train into Hialeah yard around the Y and head straight for Fort Pierce with the loads. Then another crew would continue on to City point and the bring back the empties for us to take back to Hialeah and out to Rinker and start loading until we got relieved. Once again great memories.

    I hauled steel blocks made from recycled oil filters to U.S. Foundry in Medley from Fort Pierce for about 15 years, it was quite the operation, it was a very nice place to deliver to, the staff was very professional, personable and courteous.

    I railfanned this area a few years ago and was amazed by all the paper bags with holes in them at various grade crossings. They are “voodoo” or Santorina (sp) sacrifices.

    Gdaftrn my young friend. When it comes to local action I've made up my mind. You are on top in my book. Keep up the great local footage. We love it. Be safe out there.

    Another great video. Love the night time switch at FP&T !
    Looks like I'm going to have to add ditch lights to my HO scale model FEC GP40-2 #422 !! 😉
    Cheers, Gary.

    Awesome video as usual. Really enjoy your narration. You mentioned Holsum Bakery, when I worked for the FEC out of Hialeah yard ( 1982-1985) I remember working medley and the bakery. Holsum would leave fresh bread and baked goods on the knuckle of the cars we would be switching out. The smell of fresh bread was great. Thanks for the memories.

      Thanks Robert! These are "holsum" memories! Such a nice touch from a reliable customer of FEC. I've even seen covered hoppers sitting on the dead spur when my parents decided to try out the supercenter on 27 and the palmetto in 2003-ish. Sucks the plant closed.

    Nice video my friend😎!, say you should revisit Southwestern Virginia, near Wytheville, NS will be building a new siding at Milepost 333.6 and ending probably at Max Meadows which will be the longest siding on the Pulaski District, supposed to be 15,000 ft or more long which will start work on February 2022, and more than likely going to end in March. So come on down soon if you can!

    • @TolgaEastCoast
      @TolgaEastCoast  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the update! About time they account for these super trains from Birmingham to PA. Probably 23G/22A will grow too due to new capacity in NIT.

      @@TolgaEastCoast Well NS 201 and 202 are hauling 16T and 15Ts cargo to and from Knoxville bc 15T and 16T got curtailed back to Knoxville, so now 201 and 202 are Intermodal/Manifest and also resulted of the new 11Z and 12Z. Another thing is the same year you filmed a video at Wytheville and CP Wysor, the NW CPLs no longer are in service sadly, this time you should film Rural Retreat Virginia, it’s one of the best places to film not gonna lie. And 816 has been abolished, the only coal train we have coming west is NS 710 from Norton, VA to Ensley, AL, So yeah we had a lot of changes bud. And here are the symbols now: NS 126, 127, 201, 202, 22A, 23G, 11Z, 12Z, V40, V37, and 710, and other miscellaneous work trains

    • @TolgaEastCoast
      @TolgaEastCoast  Před 2 lety

      @@railfannoah5762 Sad changes but it looks like you gained a manifest pair. Sucks that 201/202 got manifest added, that kills their priority level essentially. I did get a shot of 11Z recently somewhere, stay tuned to see it :)

      @@TolgaEastCoast Alrighty :), and yeah it does suck bc just several days ago, 202 broke a knuckle at CP Litchfield, and 201 not so bad itself, I normally go out on Ridge Road between Rural Retreat and Crockett and sometimes get a meet but when I get one, it’s always 126 stopping sometimes holding the main, and let 201 or other west bound like 22A in the siding, I rarely ever get the NS locals because I only stay in Wythe County in the weekends lol
