CSX Downtown Spur - Train Y322 Works Miami Iron & Metal and More!

We follow CSX train Y322, the Downtown Spur yard job in Miami, FL as it works the customers on the spur including the elusive daylight switch of Miami Iron and Metal, where the train traverses interesting scenery to switch scrap metal gondolas. This was the first time I've seen the train work all five customers in fact, and the consist was fairly decent for a Thursday morning. We also look at some of the trackwork FDOT did on the spur.
Leading Y322 was CSX GP38-2 2635.

Thanks for another industrial switching video. I quite enjoyed it. Since I have an HO switching layout it was interesting to see the CSX engine's speed on some of those moves. They were a bit faster than I expected! Cheers and Merry Christmas from Wisconsin.
Thanks! Part of it could be an illusion from wide angle, but yes they did the full 10mph at times.

Tolga, great catch on the Downtown Spur job working Miami Iron and Metal! It looks like they are training a new conductor. Too bad to see the switchback to Florida Bottling company and the produce warehouse is gone, but nice to see them improving the track so the line will be around for a while. It also looks like they are doing a good job of picking up the trash that normally accumulates along the spur. Thanks for posting. Merry Christmas to you and your family. -Tom

Based on the photos I've seen when you were in the area (notably on Lance's site) I'm so glad you were able to cover the spur in busier days.

Made a demo in 2020 and a good one in 2021, two more on the way.
Nice video thanks for the upload. Makes no since why they switch these cars out this way. Why not keep the empties on the front of the train. Pick up the loads, and put them on the rest of the train, and then back the empties in. This way the loads are only moved once over that spur. Less wear and tear on the spur. Just seems more logical to me, am I missing something?

Because most crews prefer to go into industries and get cars on the first pass light power where possible so they have a better field of vision. It's the same amount of moves either way, and if the siding couldn't handle the moves it wouldn't be in service.

They still do, the 7 second clip was west of 12th Avenue while the Run Around became a much cleaner shot. The tail track that went to Miami Produce Center though has bit the dust.
