  • CSX yard job Y322 switches Sentry Industries and SALCO Enterprises in the world famous East Rail in Miami, Florida. A nice treat is that it had a YN2 GP40-2, #6957 (ex. 4440, nee. CR) which brings memories out of days gone by. East Rail and the nearby Downtown Spur has also been modeled in HO scale by Lance Mindheim; be sure to check out his layout on his site. www.lancemindheim.com
    Also, as a bonus, I have included for you guys CSXT 6957 on train O721 the next day.

    Just discovered your channel. Nice videos here. Im from the coast as well but in Mexico so all this tropical and sandy scenary reminds of heat, beaches, coconuts and good ole Ferromex. Keep em coming!

    Thanks Tolga! Love the switchers. The O721 is running a little later these last few days. Rare that it didn't have any covered hoppers or those center beam cars. When I was growing up in the early 80s, there was so more switching going on in the area. FEC had customers at 4th street, north and south of the intersection, just south of 12th street, north of Bird and all along US 1 to Homestead. They ran 3-5 times a week with a rare MOW train on weekends. CSX switched the industrial park between Coral Way and Waterway Drive. Lots of customers there, I could spend half a day watching them. They operated about six trains a day. I used to live on 70th avenue with my backyard going right to the FEC tracks. And CSX was just a short bike ride away. Now we only get the one round trip a day 5-6 days a week. MEMORIES.

      Thanks Joe, I miss the old days too. I remember seeing boxcars at Everglades Lumber. Seems all the lumberyards gave way to the Home Depot and Lowe's empires. Now FEC is completely out of the picture south of the airport, and CSX's manifest down there is limited. Orr trucks theur phosphate in now too. Seal-Tite still gets a load a week or so and Rosen Materials gets two every other day. Hopefully one day CSX makes some kind of comeback on the Homestead.

    That thing is a hot box in the summer too! Our crews kept wanting to send it out to Rice Yard in Waycross, Georgia or Winston Yard in Lakeland, Florida. It sure pulls good though.

    Hey Tolga I've got lots of catching up to do on your channel! Love switching videos like this. Graffiti, trash, weed strewn sidings. Hardly the most glamorous of settings for your videos, but fascinating nonetheless! Thanks!

      Thanks Andy! Yeah I agree this is not the part of Miami the Chamber of Commerce shows off, but it's a really interesting setting!

    I assume this is the area that motivated Lance Mindheim to build his HO Scale Miami Downtown Spur. And he did a very good job.

  • @railsofchicagoandbeyond8832

    YN2 GP40??? I didn’t think those still existed.

    • @TolgaEastCoast

      They are so few and far between; this one was even renumbered from an ex Conrail unit. I believe there are hints of CR Blue peeking out too!

    Thank you for the video. What is the "Stop Dismount" sign for? Is for the railroad or the street traffic?

    • @TolgaEastCoast
      @TolgaEastCoast  Před 3 lety +1

      For the railroad. Crew must dismount since the equipment will be working in tight spaces.

    And now the road slug from 6957 which was 2357 has now been uncoupled from it. Looks like CSX is retiring more of the road slugs from the roster.
