- Do you have a wood shop and want to make a sweet axe? Well my friend, look no further because I have the video for you! I'll show you how I made this beefy 3/8'' AR-500 steel modified fireman's axe with a leopard wood handle using only the tools I have in my wood shop. That means without a forge, welder or even a plasma cutter. Seriously guys, this axe is probably one of the coolest things I've ever made.
Side note: If you don’t want an axe that weighs over 3lbs I recommend using 1/4'' plate instead of the 3/8'' I’m using. But, keep in mind that a real man has a big axe.
I used the company send cut send to have the profile burned out. I don't have any affiliation with send cut send. I just think they do a good job.

like the new intro and ax!
What a cool little fireman's axe! (Even better in focus.) Perfect gift for the cool little firemen on your list.
You are getting frighteningly good at this, sir. Have you thought of going on History Channel's "Forged in Fire"? Your axe series is all the producers would need to see.
Dope!
Can u plese give a ballpark figure as to what Cut Send Cut charged? Thank you , great job
Here are the quotes that send cut send gives for this:
3/8” AR500 steel = $36.75
1/4” AR500 steel = $28.81
1/4” AR400 steel = $29.81
My only concern is the clamping process for the handle. Epoxy isn't the same as wood glue, where you're looking for glue squeeze out. There needs to be a layer of Epoxy remaining for it to bond properly. If you clamped it too tight, you may have delamination problems in the future.
Love the idea though! Definitely something I would consider trying to make. Your effort for video editing is spot on too, love the intro 👌
Thanks glad you like it! I try not to torque down to much except in places where the handle wants to bend away from the metal but that’s a good tip for the future
NO heat treatment?
No heat treatment needed. It already has a hardness of about 50 HRC so it doesn’t need to get any harder. However, the grinding process takes longer, but honestly it’s not too long
Question is there anyway you can tell me how to convert the file so I can send it to sendcutsend. I am a firefighter and would love to make one these are great
Sendcutsend accepts DXF, DWG, EPS, and Adobe Illustrator files. In the description for this video I have a link to my axe file on my website. You can download it for free there and I believe it’s an Adobe Illustrator file. Does that answer your question or are you trying to make your own design?
@@BearMountainBuilds it does I will try again. When I downloaded the first time it downloaded as a pdf file
@@mikeyb2d255 I’ll check my website again. I think they may take pdf as well, but you can’t do the instant quote
@@BearMountainBuilds I tried sending pdf and they told me they can't use it
@@mikeyb2d255 sounds good I’ll get it updated on my website. I believe I have your email so I’ll send you the drawing file
What are you doing with all of these axes?
Right now they just hang on the wall in my shop
It's not really Firemans axe 🪓. That handle should be insulated as they are also used for cutting electrical wires during fire incident.
Well, nice built want one like that.
