    Great work. Great planter. Lovable planter. Just to add a fact, the function of this planter is not meant for draining water from the top box. Big fan of your channel since discovering your workbench build. I feel like the laminated fence pickets for the bottom shelf are too noticable at the end grain though. Debating between adding bottom stretchers to cover those up or just using more cedar decking cut to 2x2 dimensions like you did for the legs. Guessing the latter would mean buying another board though.

My wife wants another one, I like this design except she wants the planter box portion painted turquoise... Not a problem but I think oil based spar urethane over the paint will dull/change the color, any suggestions for a protective coating over the paint? @peteryelverton2954 Před rokem

      With cedar being soft and using cedar fencing, which is a thin piece of wood, you would run the risk of splitting the wood with screws. I would get thicker cedar planks (which is more expensive) if I was going to use screws.

  • @ckershner74
    @ckershner74 Před rokem

    For the bottom shelf wont the paint on the ends of the support beams cause the glue to not bond the shelf as well to the legs? Wouldn't sanding the paint off of those locations allow for a stronger glue bond and a stronger shelf? Other than that this is a great build i cant wait to get out in the shop and give it a try.

    • @BearMountainBuilds
      @BearMountainBuilds  Před rokem +2

      When I painted the supports for the bottom I tried to not get too much paint on the ends, but you’re right that if you want max strength it would be best to either mask the joints off or sand them before gluing. Either way it’s still plenty strong as is

    What is Pressure treated Cedar tone wood? Is that something that can be bought at Home Depot or Lowes or is it just plain old pressure treated planks treated with cedar tone stain? I want to make some of these planters but I'm very confused about the "pressure treated cedar tone" wood.

    • @BearMountainBuilds
      @BearMountainBuilds  Před rokem +1

      It’s a board that is generally used for decking that can be bought at Home Depot or Lowe’s. I bought mine from Home Depot. It’s pressure treated so it can’t rot and the cedar tone means it’s artificially colored like cedar

    should use titebond 3 and not 2. Also, you are using titebond original in the video.

      It's an old Titebond 1 bottle filled with Titebond 2 glue. I ended up buying a new small bottle on Titebond 2 to avoid confusion in future videos

      This glue is water resistant and Titebond 3 is water proof

    The glue you are using is not suitable for an exterior project. You should be using a waterproof glue like Titebond III

    • @BearMountainBuilds
      @BearMountainBuilds  Před rokem

      It is water resistant glue and based off the supplier spec okay for exterior use

      @@BearMountainBuilds I am looking at my bottle of Titebond Original Wood Glue, which exactly matches the bottle you are holding in frame 1.23. The label specifically says " Not recommended for exterior use or where moisture is likely." Further, in even bigger font, the label says "For exterior projects, use Titebond II or Titebond III."

    Didn't watch the whole Video, why, he says he is using Tite Bond II, when he is using the original, which has NO Business being in an outdoor project

    Hey hey,
    I appreciate you brotha!Thank you for the plans!! You don’t have a patreon (ok I don’t need to spell for this) I already subscribe, but how can we buy you a coffee or something? Like I said I appreciate the free plans and already subscribe.
    I’d like you to keep doing your videos and free plans. So how can we donate a little cash so you will keep making such great content?
    If everyone that downloaded the free plans donated $5,10,20 bucks, you’d have a little side capital to make even cooler videos and more free plans. I say free plans because not everyone has the extra cash to donate every time but at some point when they do have an extra few bucks they can pay it forward then! I know TMI! I can’t help it! Done… oh wait but… nope done.JK
    Dang I was going to be done but I haven’t been to your website in a while so I checked… you’ve added a lot more freebies!!!
    Hope you’ll setup a donation option! Makes me feel weird to keep taking the plans without donating something. I can’t be the only one that thinks you should. You’re not begging for money, you’d just be giving the option for people that want to send a little something something! Thank you for your consideration!
    Done for real

      Thanks man I really appreciate it. So far I don’t really have much set up. Maybe someday I’ll have a Patreon. Some people have somehow payed me with a super thanks through CZcams(I have no idea how they even do it). Maybe some day I’ll sell my plans for $0.99 just to pay for my website because it costs me an annual fee to even keep the store live, but not for awhile yet. But I really do appreciate you wanting to tip for the plans!
