@@samcovers6607 The prefix "re" generally implies to repeat or do something again/anew (rearrange, restock, rediscover...), so people often simply shorten "sign again" to "resign". But there's already a different meaning assigned to the word "resign": to quit/step away from something or to accept a fate.
So a title like "why kpop idols don't resign their contracts" (before the added hyphen) can read very differently (almost the opposite way) to what it is supposed to say ("Why idols don't extend their contracts" vs. "why idols don't quit their contracts").

The number of new groups debuting in recent months is staggering. Many of these groups are managed by companies that lack the resources to promote them
effectively. Even a Korean music fanatic like myself can't keep up with all the new groups. It's obvious that many of them will go unnoticed. I don't envy the life of
    an idol today.

With how mainstream K-Pop is becoming it makes sense why so many groups are being formed and trying their luck out in the industry, the chances of being successful (regardless of whether you are from a small company or not) are a lot more larger than it was 3-4 years ago. K-Pop becoming mainstream means a higher rate of success while it also being easier, however with that comes a lot of other problems such as more debt and more and more people entering the industry at extremely young ages. Also more corruption..

Can you do a video about the process of learning choreography and writing songs and line distribution? Does the company write most of the songs or is it the idols and do the idols have a say in whether they like the song or not?

      @user-sm4ut7bs2t Před 3 lety +19

usually companies buy them from producers or they have in-house producers (like RBW), idols don't get much say in line distribution at all, what some (not all) do is that everyone will record the entire song then the producer will pick who suits what part best. For choreography the company will find a studio/choreographer to make it for them and the choreographer (or dancers from their company) will teach the idols! Sometimes a company will also get multiple different choreographs to make it to the same song and they pick and choose parts they want! and if wanted they can make modifications that they think suits it better! (thats why theres difference when you watch demos vs the official dance practice)! idols don't get much of a say, in also the concept and outfits they dont get much of a say either especially if theyre rookie groups but eventually it's possible to have a bit of input!

  • @geekdiggy

9:02 the most bothersome thing about a single member being the star of the group is they're often not the most talented or charming, they're just the prettiest (and sometimes not even that). prime example: 4Minute, aka the hyuna show. she got the most attention, and she was obviously a great dancer and a decent rapper. but jiyoon was a far better rapper and arguably a better dancer, not to mention one hell of a singer (and, i may opine, a visual masterpiece herself). but hyuna's visuals made her the more marketable idol, which naturally led to an imbalance of attention from the company, behind the scenes arguments about contracts, and resentment among the members. the end result is one of the best idol groups of all times gets washed into a sea of disbanded artists who become a distant memory. a whole fandom and a decade of work just disappears, because a company liked one face more than the others. aint that some shit?

But I think Hyuna was the most talented. She was the best dancer, best rapper, had the best stage presence and she could sing too. But it was sad that Jiyoon and Gayoon got overlooked, they were so talented and pretty too. And plus Hyuna also appeared in Gangnam style so that could be one of the reasons she got so famous. And 4Minute’s visual was actually Jihyun and not Hyuna.

I remember hearing Peniel say once that they expect the trainees to be super desperate. It almost sounds like companies use that desperation to debut to their advantage to get idols to go along with ridiculous treatment and contracts. It'd be nice if there was some sort of way older idols could coordinate or organize to help the younger ones avoid the bad situations they found themselves in.

But if the group wants to avoid this from happening and they want to stay together so they would all go out of the company without some re-signing there and comeback later in the future without having their old company associated with them

I'd like to ask you if you know anything about foreign members getting way less money than their Korean counterparts, for example I've seen multiple times that Thai idols get as low as 1/6 of the earnings that they would have if they were Korean nationals and if that happens to other nationalities too. Also do you happen to know whether SM revised its earning distribution system since 2018 and what are the percentages for digital sales since they are now the vast majority of the musical sales nowadays. I completely understand if you don't have informations about these topics, I'm just curious.

I've always been curious about kpop idol soloists. I know you weren't a soloist and you might not know much about them. But I'm curious as to how kpop soloists are debuted. Like is it the trainees choice or the companies? (I'm guessing the companies so why would they debut a soloist when it might be hard for her/him to gain popularity in the sea of idol groups) Do they have an advantage or an disadvantage in the industry? Why have the number or soloists that debuts declined during the past decade or so? (Almost all the soloists i know currently were in a group before) Is it harder to be a soloist as compared to a group etc. You don't have to make an entire video about it since I think there won't be enough facts for it but I would really appreciate it if you would briefly talk about this topic. Thank you!!
Edit :- okay rereading this i realise most of this is dumb and some of my questions contradict each other but whatever. You get what I'm going at😁

Most dont have a choice, it depends on the company. Both for the disadvantages and advantages, you are the only one who can promote yourself as with group all members can promote the group, the reason why they decline is the amount of money going into them is fairly similar but unless you are multi talented and well rounded its hard to debut as a solo singer which is why they debut in a group first and get more experience and then go solo

@soobeanie_ can you touch up on some darksides of kpop, like I read somewhere that behind each and every promotions and MVs there's a lot of corruption and stuff! Is there any relationship between the companies and cult? A little about the sponsor culture and what the female idols especially go through..can you talk about that! Also are there instances where the company kind of steals songs? Like give the song which was supposed to be performed by a particular idol group to another group?
I've been very curious... can you tell us about ur experience meeting BTS? Any idea about how they are in real life? Since you have friends in the biz you might know❤️
I watch ur videos without fail❤️ it's like a movie time for me❤️ lots of love ❤️

Just watch the confession of Crayon Pop then came here... Then i came to a conclusion that being a kpop idol is like being in jail without bars, waiting for their freedom or worst is execution, which is suicide... I just hope that someday companies should take them as humans and not just some cash machines

This makes me curious about the terms of Red Velvet’s new SM contract. The members all live in a house together, so I assume(?) they get along. I assume they also get paid reasonably well(?).
Also, what will happen with Twice’s contract renewal next year? It must be hard to get 9 girls in their 20s to all get along (it seems like they are chill people, but that may just be them acting). I wonder if JYP will offer separate group and individual contract arrangements. Their music videos are such high quality - it would be a shame if they broke up.

Imagine one member is popular and bringing in money for herself and her debt being taken care of but the other members are promoting that popular member and going further into debt. That sounds horrible.
