      they aren't naturally slim and don't have naturally flawless skin Xd i mean of course there are some naturally slim koreans with flawless skin but just like there are people like this everywhere else. if you take a korean living in usa since birth that has a lifestyle like other americans and uses the products that americans use and korean living in korea there would be a big difference in their body and skin. I think not having to shave also make your body's condition better and since laser hair removal is sooo cheap in korea they just get it and never irritate their bodies with razors or wax

      This is such a false stereotype that you need to get OUT of your head!! Ridiculous. Naturally slim??? Humans in general are naturally slim, until you eat too much and stop exercising. Just like Koreans who are humans too. Flawless skin? No. Korean’s just actually care about their skin and appearance, even males. But yes, Koreans do get acne, discoloration, irritation and every other skin problem you get. She also very clearly said that it’s 70-80% true Koreans sweat less and that it varies per person which could also be true about any race.

      @@soobeanie I would love to make this Q more specific... Like my common sense says that if one is not eating properly (We all heard about those kpop diets...) and not sleeping for 8-9 hours a day( we all heard stories from trainees days) & is always wearing heavy makeup, *they're skin will get worse*...
      How come those idols, even trainees can have such a perfect skin? Considering their only carbs diets (talking about those sweet potato and apple diets.. )or sleeping for 4 hours a day.
      *Is it common to take a lot of supplements? Also how often they go for skin treatments?*
      Sorry for long Q but I'm really curious!

      A lot of idols have acne and pimples actually, they just simply cover with it makeup and under extreme bright stage lightings, it doesn’t show much. Also most of fansites touch up every single photo before posting so their idols can look flawless.

    • @uwotm8
      @uwotm8 Před 5 lety +46

      The key thing would be to not wear make-up when not in the public eye. The ironic thing about make-up is that people use it to cover spots/acne, but using make-up causes spots/acne. This is due to the pores being clogged and comedogenic products also cause dry skin. They will also be using non-comedogenic products to help.
      This is also the reason why you hardly see any men (after the greasy adolescent stage) get a lot of spots. Most men (in the UK at least), don't specifically wash their face, don't moisturise and their faces will come into contact with more dirt (when considering jobs), yet they don't get spots. This is simply due to their skin having no extra layer on top.

      djeribi rania From my perspective, fan services to an extent is okay for idols. Some things demanded by show MCs that may be too intimate for male idols who are basically bros with one another may make them uncomfortable, but reactions can be repressed or kind of subtle (you can still sense it though). And yes idols do know about bromance/ships, some (once) read fanfics for fun as well. Most companies want idols to do skinship because fans love it. Skinship can be awkward if it is forced but it can also happen naturally because some are really close (e.g. BTS).

    Nearly 100% of Koreans have a mutation on the ABCC11 gene. This gene controls whether or not your BO will stink a lot or not. The vast majority of Koreans have this mutation/recessive allele trait (I read that around 0.006 percent of Koreans have noticeable BO smell, so .994 don’t have the stronger BO smell), so most Koreans don’t really use deodorant. My mom told me she and her friends never used deodorant (even in high school), and only one girl actually used it.
    Other East Asians (specifically Chinese and Japanese from what I remember) have the same mutation as well, BUT Korea is at nearly 100% verses the 70-90% in China and Japan. I’m not completely sure why it’s almost all Korean population that has this mutation. As for Europeans, I think it was only 2% of the population that has this mutation as well.
    I’m only referring to underarm BO, though this might apply to other areas of the body as well.
    I hope that kind of explains why some of the idols you worked with don’t use deodorant. You might not need it as well, as long as your not in the 0.006 percent of Koreans with the strong BO.

      popcorn pop Mm, nope. Definitely genes. My school is white and black dominated and they definitely smell more than the boys at my church after sweating and stuff (I go to a Korean dominated church).

  • @uwotm8
    @uwotm8 Před 5 lety +177

    Just look up the ABCC11 gene.
    Most Koreans lack this gene. This gene is what causes the bacteria in our clothes and on our body to release that horrible BO smell. The bacteria is still present on Koreans, and it is still munching away on their sweat but due to the gene not being present, the bi-product does not smell like the BO we have all come to hate.
    To know if you also luckily have this mutation simply check your ear wax. If your ear wax is sticky and gross then you're going to stink when you sweat (I do a lot of exercise and I know your pain 😭). If your ear wax is dry and more like dandruff then yippy, you've hit the jackpot and you can throw out those deodrants. This is also the reason why in east-asian languages the literal translations for ear wax is ear dust.
    Here's the percentages (can't remember the source but these were roughly the figures):
    Koreans: 99%
    Japanese: 70%
    Chinese: 65%
    South-East Asia: 60%
    Europeans: 2%
    Personal theory time
    Quick question for those who lack the gene: Do you get itchy ears?
    The purpose of ear wax isn't just to clean your ears by collecting dirt, but a very important purpose is to prevent your inner ear from getting itchy. The wet wax does this beautifully, but does the dust?
    I'm asking this because I've seen plenty of asians (mainly men) just casually have a little wiggle in their ear with their finger. I've never in my life seen a British person do this, because I myself have never had an itchy ear (apart from when something large is actually in there, like a hair or something).
    P.s. would 100% take the no BO for occasional itchy ears any day of the week.

      Just to add some more interesting biology.
      Evolutionary traits are ones that help a species to better adapt to their environment. However, sometimes sexual selection is the key, and the ABCC11 gene is a perfect examply of this. Another example of this, in mongoloids, is how neotenous features are much more present when compared to other races.
      Who would you rather mate with?
      The stinking older looking person, or non-stinking younger looking person.
      You're probably wondering why this happened mainly only happened to East-Asians.
      The main theory is that their cold environment during the ice age caused them to retreat to caves and imagine a bunch of people huddling together to keep warm, it's gonna get smelly.
      Another feature that is present among East-asians is the less amount of facial and body hair. When huddling together, wearing multiples layers, the hair became more of a hindrance as it just caused the person to collect more dirt and became unhygenic.
      Therefore, it became unnecessary to keep them warm anymore (due to multiple layers of clothing), it caused them to stink, and they were also more likely to catch a disease.
      The hairy East-Asians would have died off due to being both, more likely to die, and less desirably sexually.
      If you're wondering why this didn't happen to the Europeans in north Europe, I believe it is due to the fact that they emigrated south to the Mediterranean coast, when it started to get a bit nippy. Whilst the East-Asians decided to stick it out where they were. And the part that always make me laugh, is how some Mongoloids thought, "it's a bit cold here, lets head further north". Do you have any insight on homosexuality among kpop idols? I recently watched a video about 나쁜 손, and even though I know among female idols, naughty hands are the result of just being both playful and really close, I couldn't help but wonder if there were some certified lesbians in the idol world. Also, I frequently see/hear westerners refer to male idols as homosexuals. While I'm sure this has more to do with westerners and asians having very different definitions of masculinity, statistically speaking there must be more than a few gay males in kpop. I heard one insider who claimed up to 40% of all male idols are gay or bisexual. It was on CZcams for a while but it got taken down due to legal issues. Why do so many people finding it shocking that gay people don’t just live in America? There are a few who have come out in the Kpop world and can easily be googled. • @allyyd.7877
      @allyyd.7877 Před 5 lety +61

      I don't know if you wear glasses/contacts or dance , but they are extremely uncomfortable when you have to perform. Glasses smear your makeup, fall and don't really look as nice on stage and contact lenses dry out your eyes a lot. That isn't really a problem in your everyday life but when one has to perform at an event they have to wear them the whole day from like 6-7 am until late at night sometimes. And you can also perform without glasses (which i usually do) but when you do that, especially if you have worse eyesight, you are practically blind :D and since there are lights all around you you might get a little dizzy as well. So LASIK would be really helpful to avoid all of these unpleasant situations. I myself have thought about getting it since it can only improve your quality of life and make everything easier. 👌🏻

    I find it a bit strange that you’d need a prescription for the roller. Majority of deodorant in the US contain aluminum chloride- They’re labeled at “Anti-Perspirant” so you don’t sweat.
    Rather than supposed metal absorption, some argue by using these products we prevent our bodies from releasing the toxins. Since we’re blocking our sweat glands from working properly, the toxins build up. Some even allege that this can lead to cancer etc. There isn’t a whole lot of research on it though. So far it’s still considered safe, but I think because people are worried a lot of companies been marketing “aluminum-free” deodorants... which is funny because unless its specifically meant to be an “anti-perspirant” it should already be aluminum free.

    For the PANTY LINER trick: if you try this, wear deodorant if your sweat normally smells (you are essentially creating a hotbox with this trick). Typically for Westerners, our sweat comes into contact with a naturally occurring bacteria on the skin and this combination creates odour. This is not as common for East Asians, who have fewer apocrine glands, which is why when you visit South Korea, it's HARD to find deodorant, because generally they don't need it.

America uses foods that use very strong smelling vegetables like onions and garlic heavier with a more meat based diet that can change the a person's body odor.

    For acne and stuff idk their secret yet I think staff of tv programs or of the company edit their skin to look like it's glowing more and perfect/ more whiter. During lives they also might try and capture their better sides yet when they are performing u can see an idol's blemishes , scars and such cuz of the lighting and shadows. Makeup is obviously used yet with the skincare treatments/techniques SK has, it's no wonder they still look good without makeup as well even if we see their blemishes

    For me, the best solution was also wearing deodorant with aluminum (drysol). My doctor recommended it after normal deodorants didn't work for me. Like now when I apply I don't sweat at all on my underarms. I am kinda afraid about what people say on aluminum though, so I try to wear it only when it's summer, or I'll wear tight clothes.

      @spillthattea88 Před 5 lety +1

      That might be true too I've never heard that! I do know that BO and earwax consistency are determined by the same gene. So if you have dry earwax then you don't have underarm BO. It doesn't determine body odor in other places though. East Asians predominantly have dry earwax thus no underarm BO, with Koreans having the highest percentage. Its quite high for people of Japanese and Chinese descent. Then its followed by SE Asians. I imagine if you were mixed with European and Asian ancestry then that might lower your chances

      Some bigger companies like SM don't require idols to repay their trainee fees but I would say most smaller companies do. This fee is to repay for the investments made on them as trainees for singing/dancing/acting/language/etiquette lessons, but also pays for album production, stylists, choreo, etc. Its really hard for less popular groups to to pay off this debt because you technically accumulate debt even after debut. Example girls day and aoa at their peak were really popular in korea, but it still took them years to pay off their debt because its added onto. You have to break even before you really start making money.
      Idols typically get paid as a group after their debt is cleared, but because each member of a group as an individual contract with different terms the conditions may vary. An example would be if one member of a group was more popular like Suzy or Yoona and got a lot of solo acting jobs or commercial deals they may get to keep that and not have to split it with their members. Other companies will pay you but still make you pay back the debt which means it'll take longer for you to pay off. Oh also composers and rappers in groups who write lyrics get to keep their own portion of the royalties which is seperate.
      Sorry that was a really long explanation but essentially its different for each group and company. Some get paid from the start and others never make any money while they're an idol. It just really depends. I hope this was somewhat helpful

    I think aluminum chloride is what Filipinos call "tawas". It's the most common/ basic (and cheapest) form of deodorant in the Philippines. You can buy it anywhere and has a lot of different brand and kind. It's either roll on type, powder, or the raw form which looks like a stone crystal.

  • @ab6ixblindforloveismyultja641

    If you prevent yourself from sweating, you work against your body’s attempt to regulate your body temperature. So if you use that roller thing make sure you find a chance to cool down if you think you should be sweating. You don’t want to overheat yourself and get heat stroke.

    Aluminium chloride is in nearly all deodorants so I don’t know why everyone is really offended by it (some people think that it can cause breast cancer) but it’s very common. It doesn’t really do much for strong Oder tho 😒. Like it doesn’t really work for me personally I sweat through everything but it can work for lots of people. So I think people should use what works for them!! Sorry for the rant!!
