in Roblox, you can use something called TweenService to smoothly move around objects, instead of having a loop that moves the object 0.1 studs constantly

As a Roblox dev, I can say that it's really easy to make a game and share it to the world. But sadly, simple functions take way too long to implement a simple function or make them efficient and lag free. The given movement characters etc. are way too hard coded, and the variation is next to 0. The pay of a dev is so low, with Roblox taking a giant cut. There are some other things I could address here, like the toxic workspaces, but my main goal is to say that you made a great video I would love to see a more in depth video that doesn't just scrape the surface.
Yeah I’d like to make a more in-depth video in the future sometime. I know PolyMars made a whole video specifically about the monetization stuff so I would like to compare core roblox and maybe also Rec room more directly and really explore what they do in the future

unions are basically a way to create stuff similar to the stuff that you make in blender, you will only lag while moving them in the studio and not lag in the game
but dont add too much complicated unions since it will probally lag
you should probally learn how to use unions, its amazing
Godot has a similar system with CSG meshes but I didn’t know roblox had that, will keep in mind
Yea, i've been using unions for at least 3 years or so and i whould say that you can make that tower model with the solid modeling feature under a minute or if you want a high quality hitbox, i whould suggest putting parts on each side and rotate them while duplicating at the same time. I never use meshes and i doubt i will ever need except if it comes to custom character base models but still, it happens rarely that i use meshes. Anyways the thing with unions is that you can store more triangles in them than a mesh part.
In general, i find the solid modeling a great feature but it has his cons like everything does.
@@PossiblyAxolotl Also you can use the textures from blender into roblox, you just have to upload the texture image to roblox and then put the ID into the "TextureID" property
@@kynze5228 also for a better hitbox you don't need to do that, unions have a property called "CollisionFidelity" and which there is one which starts with "Precise" (i forgot the name) which gives it more accurate hitboxes
I’ve been using Unions for about 5 years, and I can safely say they are not nearly as good as using meshes in Blender.
I think the main downside of Roblox is probably optimisation. Also some things people just do in their games like dual rendered scopes, I think tarkov does. But in Roblox stuff like that is more of a tech demo made by developers who really know what they're doing. I also say tech demo because it's laggy as all hell and I think it uses some pretty hack-y methods to achieve the result. Also Core just has no charm to it and despite the recent downsides of Roblox I don't think people could recreate the charm it has ever.

There's things called plugins which help you doing hard things (like a day and night cycle, where the sun should be located; waterfalls etc) and It honestly really helps, think you should try it next time

I'm pretty sure you can import decals onto the creator marketplace and make your own textures. Other creators have done it in their games. I don't know if PBR textures are supported for custom ones though

btw my recommendation, use cframe or tweenservice and also instead of plain materials you could use textures, or images/decals so you don't have to use there materials and there is a custom color tool + you could make an aspect so the lava rises, sorry for such a long comment lol

There's a game on roblox that's been really popular recently called apeirophobia, when you play it it almost doesn't feel like your playing roblox. a really good game and recommend checking it out, may improve your pov on roblox.

For textures, all meshes have a texture property, you just have to export it separately as like a PNG. Someone said you could use MaterialService or SurfaceAppearance, which isn't the only and best way, MaterialService basically is a way of creating entirely new materials that can be used on all objects, while SurfaceAppearance adds textures to meshes using PBR materials. In conclusion just export the texture and import it into roblox as a decal and then set that as the texture
Also, if you want to delete the tools in your inventory you can use the following code in a script in the character:

Seeing that you only moved the position of the axis's of parts to make something move in Roblox I'll show you an easier and better alternative. To make something look smooth or animated you could use the built in function ":lerp()" or you can tween it with tweenservice example: "game.TweenService:Create(object, TweenInfo.new(information of seconds it takes etc.), {Property your tweening = value})" to also make the tween play you got to add a ":Play()" at the end of the parentheses.

for roblox try avoiding the free models as they often have a "virus" in them which teleports people to other games or makes the game completly unplayable

- add lasers or somethin my mind kinda blank but all im saying is that people really underestimate how much you can do in roblox, since its a 3d engine that has been around for over a decade you have to expect low limitations

I had never heard of Core, but I'm definitely gonna look into it now, especially after hearing how scummy Roblox is with it's monetization and issues with grooming (both involving users and employees). Thanks for exposing me to this.
In core its impossible to maintain netize unless you have a pretty big game (for core) + the people has to buy products. Do spite Roblox taking a big cut of the revenue, you still get something just for people playing your game (if they have premium)
Nice! Its pretty cool and I believe the revenue share is 50/50 unlike Roblox’s where they take an average of 75%
And yeah I wouldn’t want to make games for a platform that has grooming problems

They are working on the materials right now, last month they added like 8 new default materials and a "MaterialService" which i assume can be used for custom materials.
You can also add texture objects inside parts to mimic materials.

Roblox sucks because of its terrible monetization and discovery tools, not to mention the immoral cut that they take. "You want me to get 70% of the robux i earned with my game, then have to wait till i get $1000 worth of them, then i have to gamble whether or not i will even get that money and even if i do i get $350, and then after that i have to pay taxes!?!" No thanks ima stick to itch and steam.

use tween service for both moving parts and the fading parts, so that way the movements are more smooth (it also lets you do it reverse and repeat without while true do)

The thing with the materials being exclusively limited to the roblox ones isn't something that's gonna last long as they announced a while back that user uploaded materials and textures with normal maps will be added at some point, also graphical thing isn't a problem as a lot of devs have shown themselves very capable of making really good looking games on roblox using the future lighting engine
yeah I've seen some really cool stuff done with roblox, materials and graphics in general is definitely no longer a limit
You can actually have your own textures for your own meshes/models on Roblox. You have to texture it in Blender using the UV editor and import it like that. You do, however, have to use Roblox materials. Typically this doesn't affect your model if you're already using textures. ^ - ^

Idk if you knew this but some roblox models can contain viruses that let the creator of the model change your game how they want letting them or turn your game into something bypassed or a teleporter that teleports you to their game
yeah I know, I usually use my own models for everything but for this case when I got models from the workshop I tried to make sure they had no extra code connected to them. Thanks for looking out for me tho haha!

correction (yea i am a year late and you prolly know by now): in roblox you can import your own textures called decals and inport the ids inside either textures OR the model imported from blender

you can actually import models with color but you need to use uv mapping, also I saw a comment by Flashyi. Flashyi was kind of wrong about that, it is very easy to implement simple stuff like running and also you can change the movement system and stuff like that but you need to know lua fairly well.

Heres a tip for ROBLOX:
When importing a mesh in your game and don't wanna use roblox textures, make the textures in blender using UV Editing.
If you don't have your texture pallet installed on roblox, export your models in an FBX.
This will allow to get your blender textures in your game without using any of roblox colors.
If you want to use both, don't add textures to where you want to use the ROBLOX ones and make sure they are separated to the textured ones or you will change all of the model/mesh to 1 color.

Roblox’ main issue is simply that they treat their community horribly and keep making annoying changes. For example, to have sounds, you need to use the robot-generated ones from Roblox, and they aren’t that great. You also have Monstercat music, but it’s limited as well. Your can upload your own audio, but only 10 per month unless you are a big developer or provide identification to Roblox.

you can acctually import colour models it just needs to be an image texture not just a base colour

In roblox studio you can import ur own materials through textures

theres "MaterialService" that lets you add custom materials in roblox

well for those moving block thingies on roblox obby you could use tweenservice to make them more smooth because its kinda not that smooth also theres another difference between core and roblox on core you need to be approved to monetize your game but on roblox you dont need to
I’ll definitely look into tweenservice, didn’t know core needed monetization to be approved but looking at games like “adopt me!” Is that really a bad thing?
