  • We've been on a square cake kick around here. I was pretty happy with how the upside-down technique worked for getting sharp edges on my square cakes but you guys wanted to see a video using square acrylics too! So here it is! You tell me which way you think is better!

It's genius with the parchment. I use acrylics and they work well for round shapes. I use press n seal, but will try the parchment for a square cake I have to make. The press n seal works great, but can be a challenge to take off. I can't wait to try it!

perfection.. I have seen this done with Glad Go-between freezer paper instead of parchment....and it worked really well. Left the top wrinkle free, but they did put loads of icing directly onto the top acyrilic before attaching it to the cake.

Thank you so much for creating this tutorial. It contains helpful hints that look like real time savers that the Cakesafe tutorial does not include. I’ll be busting out my square acrylics today for the first time, & I’m much more confident now thanks to you!

a little tip I learned from the folks at cake safe. Use a foam core board the same size as the acrylic for your bottom. That eliminates the need to flip the cake to remove the bottom acrylic 😁. I do this and makes my life so much easier. I bought the foam core boards from Amazon and had my brother cut them down to size using the acrylic plates as guide

Liz, thank you for another great video. I use acrylics on all of my cakes. I am so icing challenged and for me it is so much faster, once you get the hang of it. I even do my quarter and half sheets, but no flipping those sizes for me. LOL Liz, stay blessed!

Huge Fan! thanks for another great video. I just had an Aha moment. I have been using acrylics for my round cakes and will be using them to make my first square cake. I have been using "parchment paper" but unfortunately not folded around the disc but smaller than the disc. It works but the disc gets stock in the buttercream and it is a little mess when taking it off. Your method is so effortless. I will be taping them from now on!!! Thank you

This is awesome! I avoid square cakes like the plague! I’ll have to try it! One question, how do you avoid messing up that buttercream edge where the board doesn’t come all the way out when you’re stacking onto other tiers, etc.?

    • @SugarGeekShow

Not sure about whipped cream, you would need to freeze it solid for that to work but for italian meringue definitely

Steve Mooney until the butter is hard, 15-20 minutes. The parchment keeps it from sticking
