  • This is a 8” square cake
I’m using Cake Safe Acrylic Discs - 8” in size
You can purchase them here www.cakesafe.com/store#!/Acry...
I covered my top acrylic disc with Glad Press-N-Seal
I frost my square cakes about 3 times after the crumb coat (you can eliminate the crumb coat stage if you like)
In between each coat of buttercream I freeze my cake for about 15-20 minutes to ensure that my frosting is firm
Once the acrylic disc is placed on top I focus on getting the sides smooth
    Freeze
Next coat of frosting focuses on the corners. I use the buttercream to build the corners if needed
    Freeze
I remove the top acrylic, which can be scary and may not go as planned lol. I frost the top and smooth the sides and corners until I’m happy with it
Freeze one last time to ensure everything is set
At this point you can cover in fondant or decorate however you like

The Penny Pinching Wife I bake individual cakes. So for this cake I baked two 8” layers then split each layer to create 4 layers total

Hello, if you use parchment paper to cover your disk, the icing won’t stick and come off the top. Nice work 😊👍🏽

Hi! Will chilling the cake after frosting the top (before acrylic square goes on it) keep the acrylic from pulling up the top icing? I’d like to try these, but I have want to ask questions of folks (like you all) who have actual experience using them 😘

I usually pop the cake in the freezer during this process but I find that the amount of time its in the freezer matters - the longer its in there the easier the acrylic comes off .. I might have rushed the process while making this video lol
