You guys erased over 106 years of history…for what!? Cause some people on twitter said somethings about the name? People who never supported you, went to a game, or watched a game is who you caved to.
History and tradition are important for sure. It wasn't just people on twitter saying things about the name though, for decades Native American groups have been saying that these reductive uses of their culture are harmful. We can have a discussion about the merits of that, in the case of the Braves for instance, but "Indians" has been at best a stereotype and at worst a slur. Changing a name doesn't erase history, that's not a cogent concept, history is a record of change. It's fine to be attached to a name and a tradition, but changing a name doesn't have to mean the end of what you love. "Guardians" seems like a great choice: a name has to be something that is an icon, something recognisable and bonding. Go Braves! ;-)
