People we have talked to seem to be embracing the new name.
In order to get a better gauge on how fans feel about the "Guardians" as the Indians' new name, we took to Twitter. You can vote on whether you "love," "hate" or are "indifferent" to the Guardians' nickname in the poll below.

There was a poll on whether native Americans cared or not, and 90% of them said they didn’t think it was offensive. If you change it, you’re making only 1 out of ten people happy and the other 9 unhappy. I have officially divorced the former Cleveland Indians. I'm sure I'm not alone and thousands are with me. Today I was checking around looking for a new team. Baltimore Orioles look interesting. They have a great history, and they're underdogs with a terrible record, just like the old days with Manning, Hargrove, and Harrah, bout 1980, and I like their logo. Just like home. And with a name that doesn't sound like a girls soccer team. I'll check around further. I know I don't want to be a Yankees fan, or the stinking Red Sox. I might check into a national league team. Worst comes to worst, I just might drop baseball altogether. But I'll never associate with the Cleveland Guardians, hated now more than any team in the league. Yes, it was a messy divorce and the estranged Cleveland Franchise can go to hell.

There was nothing wrong with the "Indians" name. My guess is that there were many real-life Indians who were opposed to changing the name to something else. I would think that many were proud to have a MLB Team named after them! It gave them recognition, and to me since i was young, it's always been Positive recognition. American Indians are a huge part of our history...and our present. I actually think this change is BAD for them. To me, this is actually taking recognition away from them.

Jim Thorpe played for a team that called themselves the Indians. It was a point of pride. Indian is a signifier for a group of people, like Yankee or Canuck. Any word can have negative meaning if you assign one to it.

The Cleveland Guardians? What exactly are they guarding? They have not won any World Series titles.
I believe that if a team is going to change a name it's had for over a century, it should look to its history for a new name, if possible. As fans know, the Cleveland Indians used to be called the Blues. Naming the team the Blues (rather than the Guardians) would have made better sense and would have been a fitting nod to club history (IMO).

I was on a plane and had an interesting conversation with a native American man. He gave me his card and on it it said "Crow Indian Tribal Council". So if it is not offensive to them how is it offensive? Maybe the logo is offensive but not the name. As long as cowards keep giving into trouble makers they won't stop until every statue is torn down. These fans could have stopped this in the bud by staying home from the game. Money talks.
If you go to the game, just take your old Indians pennants, hats, shirts, etc, worn out stuff you don't want anymore. Maybe a few cruddy balls from ball days of the past. They always gave away cheap baseballs anyway, not the quality of the ones used on the field. Now, in the first inning, in protest of the name change, take all that shit and throw it onto to field and force the umps to call a forfeit. That'll let em know how we feel.
