- The Cleveland Indians are a very old baseball franchise, Dating back as early as 1900, It’s a surprise when you hear that they have only won 2 World Series, and that the last one was in 1948. today I will take you on the journey of the Cleveland’s beloved baseball team. Welcome to the Baseball Paradox.
- Sport
Literally had a great chance of winning the World Series from 95-99, 2007, and 2016/17. It really is just insane that such talented Indians teams seem to blow it the same way every time, even when they are made up of different players. Hope to see a part 2 for this once the curse is broken!
As soon as the curse is broken part 2 will be out.
@@RetroBaseball i guess there will never be a part 2 then
Not vs the Braves
The fact they had a 3-1 series in 2016 was the closest they've come during that run. And, yes, even closer than 1997, because having both home field and a 3-1 lead assured them they wouldn't lose on a walk-off.
It will never be broken my cubs broke your team so bad the name had to change 🇺🇸😍🇺🇸🇺🇸🎊🎉💪💪💪
It’s absolutely insane that the Indians didn’t win in the 90s with those lineups
god awful pitching is the answer. and jose mesa
@@BartoloVids you must not have watched them play, they had a dominant pitching staff in the 90s as well as batting.
The only thing accurate about your claim was Mesa in 97 lol
@@BartoloVids they had good pitching, we lacked an ace of the staff. Ironically, we have had plenty of those since the 90s and before the 90s.
Just Cleveland doing what it does best.
The Strike zone in 95 fucked them and the strike in 94
I never thought I would find myself in the credits of a Retro vid. Huge W
cant wait for this channel to blow up
That would be exciting.
2016 was the best World Series in recent history.
I would love to see more team docs like this!
I’ve watched thousands of CZcams videos in my life, this is one of the finest I have ever witnessed, well done Retro!!!
Thank you, it means a lot!
Astronomically common Wetro
Would've been better if Cleveland wasn't misspelled as Cleavland throughout the entire video.
Despite the drought, the Indians (Now Guardians) have been a relatively successful franchise since the late 90's. 3 Pennants, 11 Central Division Titles, 13 playoff appearances overall, and a .512 winning percentage (as of 2022). Hopefully they break the curse, they are one of the more historic and fascinating franchises...
Guardians the new failure
What’s crazy for me is I started following baseball in 1995, when I was 7. I lived in Seattle and had no knowledge of the Indians history prior to 95. I saw them as one of the best teams out there! Having no idea they can’t win the series to save their lives.
Great work as always! Love the potential of this new series!
Thank you.
this is many months in the making
Such Excitement
yes kc
and they just lost 17-0 today. nice upload timing
Lol
They should change their name to the Cleveland Failures! Or go back to 1902 with the Bronchos Lmao I remember when I saw that for the first time.
oof
@@AeckProductions lol
In 1987 the Indians were supposed to have the best record in MLB according to Sports Illustrated
This is such a great channel!
Thank you.
2016 3-1 WS choke, 2017 choke 2-0, 2007 choke 3-1, 1999 choke 2-0, 1997 choke 9th inning lead in game 7 WS. Cursed!
That 2007 series still haunts me. They would have absolutely destroyed Colorado in 2007 in the WS
@@tony6666 The Indians have ALWAYS choked when it really mattered. It's infuriating as a fan.
@@tony6666 Yeah that 2007 ALCS I think bothers me more than anything. Game 7 was tight until Skinner held Lofton up at 3rd (run that would have tied it and given us momentum) in like the 7th inning - Lofton would have scored cause Manny was playing LF. Blake grounded into a double play to end the inning and it was such a shock that they then fell apart completely and it ended up looking like a blowout (when it was close most of the way).
When you lose to a team with a goat curse, then you know you've got a very, very bad curse on the team!
Great music!
I kinda like Cleave -land. It has a bit of a ring to It
Shhhh… we don’t talk about that…
@@RetroBaseball trust me if I had a nickel for every misspelling I’ve made I would have enough to buy their franchise.
Cleveland Paindians would’ve worked better then guardians
Regarding the spelling:
Moses Cleaveland led an expedition into Connecticut's western reserve, territory now the northeastern part of Ohio. The city now called Cleveland was founded by that expedition. I understand that a newspaper dropped that extra "a" to shorten the name. (Incidentally, the expression "Western Reserve" is still used a lot in northeastern Ohio.)
Regarding the curse:
No explanation is complete without mentioning general manager Frank "Trader" Lane, who took a contending team in the late 1950s, and disemboweled it. Lane's most notorious and reviled move was to trade away popular slugger Rocky Colavito. Five years later, a new front office tried to undo some of the public relations damage by trading to get Colavito back. But they gave up prospect Norm Cash, who went on to have a distinguished career in Detroit.
As a Clevelander this fucking hurt to watch. Great job!
Another excellent production. I liked that part where that Rizzo guy caught the ball. 🙂
You mean the Yankees 1st Baseman?
@@UnitedGamingMLB Former Cubs 1st baseman too
@@UnitedGamingMLB So happy to have him on the yankees though
Because they ended up losing, I can't watch that Rajai Davis game tying HR from Game 7. And I absolutely despise rain delays to this very day. 😔😒
2023 we will break the "Curse"!
This didn’t age well……
Missed the playoffs and Francona retired, albeit I had a feeling he would
what a well made video good job on this
Thank you!
From the January 18, 1915 edition of the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
“It has now been decided to revive this name. The Clevelands of 1915 will be the ‘Indians.’ There will be no real Indians on the roster, but the name will recall fine traditions. It is looking backward to a time when Cleveland had one of the most popular teams of the United States. It also serves to revive the memory of a single great player who has been gathered to his fathers in the happy hunting grounds of the Abenakis.”
That “single great player” was Louis Sockalexis, who died in 1913.
Feels like you haven’t posted in 7 days but it’s only been 2 days lol
If you ever get around to it could you do a team doc on the texas rangers? also this is foolish baseball quality video great job on this
That spelling error is a disaster of carelessness because of how sorely it sticks out in an otherwise fantastic video.
Wow, I actually did not notice that even after I saw this comment, I had to ask someone what it was, thanks for pointing that out. it should be changed now.
@@RetroBaseball It hasn't been changed - and also "Robbins" should be spelled "Robins".
Wow Retro, this is good.
Thank you!
Banger
Nicely done. To be fair, while there were a lot of god awful teams in there, most of the teams were just plain average. Also, I think Cleveland would’ve gotten another WS in the 1950s if divisional play existed. Those 92-93 win teams might’ve gotten it done in the playoffs.
Great Video
You didn’t even watch it lol you have watched 1 minute of it
No he watched the whole thing at 11x speed
@@BrandonCuringtonTheBarber
I am history buff and I saw it was history video in the intro. I just wanted to be positive.
Thank you.
Let's go
At this point it's now guaranteed the Cleveland *Indians* will never win a World Series.
The fact that the indians are probably the most successful team in cleveland since the cavs were founded if were not considering lebron is insane and they still cant get a chip
"CLEAVLAND" CHOPPERS! Tell me you guys really didn't notice the spelling error most of the way through the video?!
No mention of the Curse of Rocky Colavito?
Oooooh a documentary
It’s indeed an exciting occasion.
The 1997 comeback kids
The 90s were Braves years
… the Yankees?
@@Mardemat27Correct, because they won three in that decade (and a fourth in 2000).
While the Braves only won once
Never understood why FOX used “CHI” instead of “CHC” for the abbreviation
Also why does Nap Lajoie look like Tobey Maguire
Chicago CUBS or Chicago WHITE Sox. Gotit?
As an Indians fan I hate this curse....
Good video tho
@@Ryndaniels_37 indeed
Uggh this was a painful watch
Rock !
Ok but hold on wait.. . them being called 'indians' s an insult cuzthey were at keast willing to have a native American on their team but then EMBRACING it? That's actually kinda cool
I have a feeling the Cleveland Indians, I mean the Cleveland Guardians will win the 2024 World Series against the Chicago Cubs.
I have a feeling that would be one of the greatest World Series of all time if it happened.
Its the Curse of Joc-O-Soc
Ooh wee
Underdawg sent me
Hey bot breath, the city is spelled CLE VEL AND, Cleveland. As per the song, “The Best Location in The Nation CLE VEL AND.”
WUNDERDAWG RAIDDDDDDDDD BABY
"Cleavland"???
I know, it’s a dumb mistake by me. but this is an old video and I try to do much better now.
*watch out for the spelling error in the title*
THE FLORIDA MARLINS
BTW, it’s spelled “Cleveland”, not “Cleavland”. 🙄😒
Cleavland???
Why does the animation spell Cleveland wrong Lol
Just a dumb mistake by me. I still don’t know how that got through all my reviews lol. But this video is a couple years old and I try to be much more careful nowadays.
@RetroBaseball great video I was born and raised in Cleveland
Dude, it's Cleveland, not Cleavland. Stuff like that really bums me out. Other than that, good job.
Yeah, it’s a very dumb mistake on my part. I don’t even know how it happened. This video was made almost 14 months ago though, so I hope I’ve learned from my mistakes.
You're videos are great dude. Keep it up.
a long video!
Such an exciting occasion.
Here from waffle man

It really annoys me with this curse

Spell CLEVELAND right for gods sake. It is spelled CLEVELAND,.... not Cleavland.
The city is spelled, "Cleveland." NOT , "Cleaveland!" ):/
Learn your history. The name was changed. Not misspelled.
@@user-co7fb6qe5w "Are you that "Dickhead D.A.?"
You think it would be odd to name the team after a player when they literally just did that before changing to the Indians? And then you just assume that it was an insult and throw that out there with no proof?
