Uggh this was a painful watch
BTW, it’s spelled “Cleveland”, not “Cleavland”. 🙄😒
From the January 18, 1915 edition of the Cleveland Plain Dealer: “It has now been decided to revive this name. The Clevelands of 1915 will be the ‘Indians.’ There will be no real Indians on the roster, but the name will recall fine traditions. It is looking backward to a time when Cleveland had one of the most popular teams of the United States. It also serves to revive the memory of a single great player who has been gathered to his fathers in the happy hunting grounds of the Abenakis.” That “single great player” was Louis Sockalexis, who died in 1913.
Thank you for this bit of info.
I’m researching old baseball origins. Thanks for your contributions….nice job.
You’re very welcome.
Listen, i love your content. I truly do. But i cant stay subbed to a channel that uploads no content whatsoever.....good luck in all future endeavors tho. Hope you start making content again one day
I appreciate that. I’ve been trying to stay more consistent, I’ve just been very busy. more videos are coming soon.
Ok but hold on wait.. . them being called 'indians' s an insult cuzthey were at keast willing to have a native American on their team but then EMBRACING it? That's actually kinda cool
This is the definition of not giving up on the play
Legendary commitment.
Now that's crazy. Train interference only a double.
Yeah, like how do you even continue a game after that happened?…
@@RetroBaseball yea they definitely didn't. Crazy story
Womp womp Jk
when you die your body tenses up
So that means if you kill an outfielder they’re gonna catch the ball no matter what… 😳
The commitment is crazy 😭
Lmao
I honestly couldn’t believe it when I read it either
RIP 😭😭😭
bro got cooked.
@@RetroBaseball nahhhh 💀
so was the guy out
I assume yes, but the rest of the game would’ve been quite awkward.
@@RetroBaseballimagine the other team won and started trash talking the team with the dude who died 😂
@@Baron-King 😂😂
My question is why is there a train going through a baseball field
I also wondered this. Seems like a safety hazard.
@@RetroBaseballlmaoooo😂 YA THINK!!!!!????
Was before they had walls in the outfield. They just played In whatever field that was good enough for a baseball game back then. 5 seconds to research, you refused to do it. But you're welcome for that free education
I missed u 😢
I missed all of you as well. New videos will be coming much more frequently now, I’ve just been very busy.
The absolute dedication is just honorable
Truly inspirational.
At least he caught the ball
I honestly wonder if they continued playing the game and just substituted another guy in left field…
@@RetroBaseball I’d hope they stopped but wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t it’s the 1800s he was looked at as a casualty in war
WE are SO back

"CLEAVLAND" CHOPPERS! Tell me you guys really didn't notice the spelling error most of the way through the video?!
I have a feeling the Cleveland Indians, I mean the Cleveland Guardians will win the 2024 World Series against the Chicago Cubs.
I have a feeling that would be one of the greatest World Series of all time if it happened.
Thank you for pronouncing his name correctly
The only way Wander Franco’s ever seeing the field again
1:32 NAHH REALLY?
Hey bot breath, the city is spelled CLE VEL AND, Cleveland. As per the song, “The Best Location in The Nation CLE VEL AND.”
Well, the title is all that's needed.
Love learning about 19th century baseball..wish u would come back and make more videos lol
I have been working on one recently. I’m not sure when it’s gonna come out… but I will be back eventually.
@RetroBaseball that's awesome to hear!!! Can't wait man i look forward to it and hope everything is okay with ya. Take care
The fact that the indians are probably the most successful team in cleveland since the cavs were founded if were not considering lebron is insane and they still cant get a chip
You think it would be odd to name the team after a player when they literally just did that before changing to the Indians? And then you just assume that it was an insult and throw that out there with no proof?
One of the few clips you hear Kennesaw Mountain Landis's voice. The man saved baseball from the evil gambling influences.
what a well made video good job on this
Thank you!
Great video for so few subscribers. Please keep making more!!
Thank you! I’m working on one as we speak. It will be about the great Satchel Paige.
I thought John Curve invented the curve ball.
Imagine being the family of a victim that was murdered, but then the murderers death gets delayed because the Prison Padres beat the Jailhouse Jays 5-2.

Yeah, they both got a car. People liked Lajoie. He helped start the American League by switching from the National. Lajoie's team even changed its name from the "Cleveland Indians" to the "Cleveland Naps"...and Lajoie was the playing-manager too for 4 years, Lajoie said managing took away from his hitting so he didn't manage in 1910.
my dad was named after Lajoie bcs my grandfather was playind 2nd base opposite Lajoie the day my dad was born. Good thing he didn't name him 'Napoleon' which was Nap Lajoie's real first name...to show that his family was from the French side of the Alsace in Europe, not the German side.
Because they ended up losing, I can't watch that Rajai Davis game tying HR from Game 7. And I absolutely despise rain delays to this very day. 😔😒
It really annoys me with this curse
Wow Retro, this is good.
Thank you!
Please do an episode on the 54 seasons of the Milwaukee Brewers with their one American league Pennant, which has recently eclipsed the futility of the 52 seasons the St'Louis Browns had with their one American League Pennant after they moved from Milwaukee and changed their name from the Brewers to the Browns.
I will definitely add this to the ideas list. Thank you.
hi retro im the first comment in 2024 can i get pin

When I saw the photo I was thinking “who the hell let’s their child near a rapist knowing full well they are a rapist”
The early 1900s were certainly a weird time.
untill he took steroids he was an all star.....but not Babe Ruth
Great video
Thanks!
So Barry gets peeved over other players popularity and CHOOSES to cheat. Yeah, we should respect that, just like we should respect Lance Armstrong. It is to laugh. But we could start a steroid hall of fame...
1:46. Delahanty was not “traded.” He essentially quit the National League Philadelphia team after the 1889 season to join the new Players League for the 1890 season. However, the Players League folded after the 1890 season so Ed returned to Philadelphia for the 1891 season.
