That is definitely true about the left. Their being offended for someone usually results in destroying the lives of those they are offended for. In this case though, do we really know if Native American communities are offended? Maybe they are. If they are, I think it is their decision to stop the use. I personally have no idea what the actual stance is on the issue by Native Americans. Could go either way, they could see it with pride, or they could see it as mocking them and the past. Does anyone know if the various native american nations have a structure where they get together, meeting of the community leaders etc? If they did, it would be nice to see if they would come to a consensus on the issue.

Mr. Shapiro I have been an Indians fan since my dad took me to see a game when I was 5 and a half years old, after my 5 open heart surgery. It was one of the first normal things me and my dad got to do together. With that being said them changing the name really hurt and I am no longer a cleveland indians fan. My dad is from Detroit so I will stick being a Tigers fan. God bless you Mr. Shapiro.

After blowing a 9th inning lead it went to extra innings. Next thing I knew they had a runner at second base in the 10th inning. I was trying to figure out what happened. They had just returned from a commercial. Then I realized that they had implemented that stupid "runner starts extra inning at second" rule. This is not only not the team I grew up with but also not the sport I grew up with.

As a lifelong Clevelander, I'm glad you brought this issue up Ben. It is very pathetic that this is what we have resorted to as a society.
The Native Americans still have the highest suicide rates and they get some of the worst medical care in this country, but changing the names of sports teams that have Native American references is WAAAAAAY MORE important. That should make everything better since we are erasing any acknowledgment of them and, in turn, people will completely forget about them and their problems, which makes sense since the government has already forgotten about them for many years now.
I've told plenty of people that were in favor of the name change and/or the removal of Chief Wahoo that if there was a sports team with a Sphinx head logo (real or cartoon caricature), along with an Egyptian themed team name, that I would definitely buy any and all apparel with that logo!!
Btw, I'm Egyptian and I would TOTALLY wear a New York Jews T-shirt/Jersey!! I know that doesn't sound right (being an Egyptian and all), but my parents came from Egypt because they were persecuted for being Christians in a Muslim country. Plus my dad was drafted/forced to fight in the six day-war of 1967 and he was rescued by the Israeli Army (they knew he was a Coptic Christian because of the crucifix tattoo that he had, plus he never shot anyone during the war). He respected the Jews his entire life and firmly believed (until the day he died) that they have the best military in the world.

I understand that. I’m not stupid.
But the truth is that teams have also changed their names in the past due to political or societal pressures.
Just as an example, Middle Tennessee State University used Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest as their mascot. They removed his name in 1963 due to political pressure.
Stanford University changed its team name from Indians to Cardinal (the color, not the bird) in 1972. They made the change because of pressure from Native American students and neighboring tribes protested that the name was an insult to their culture and heritage.
The Golden State Warriors (previously the Philadelphia Warriors) changed their mascot from a caricature of a Native American to a headdress logo from 1962-1969. In 1969, they dropped the Native American theme entirely due to political pressure. It’s been a drawing of the Golden Gate Bridge since 1969.
Dickinson State University in North Dakota changed its team name from Savages (with corresponding Native American logo) to Blue Hawks in 1972.
Dartmouth College changed its team name from Indians to Big Green in 1974.
In 1994, St John’s University changed their name from Redmen to Red Storm, and ditched a Native American team logo.
Miami of Ohio changed from Redskins to RedHawks in 1997.
Tampa Bay Devil Rays dropped the “Devil” from their name in 2006, because local Christian groups felt that the team needed an “exorcism” from the word “Devil”, in order to change the luck of the losing franchise.
There are many more examples too, going back as far as the 1950’s and 1960’s. The truth is, societies and the world evolve over time. It’s a natural progression.
