- Angel Martinez is having a HOT spring training, but is it good enough to land him a starting spot in the Cleveland Guardians starting lineup?
Martinez is showing signs of power and contact, which could push Gabriel Arias out of the lineup.
The Guardians have a log jam with middle infielders, but Martinez could be the best of the bunch.

The right thing to do would be to break camp with Chase DeLauter in center, Manzardo at first, and Martinez at short but we all know they won't do it for service time. It's gonna be Arias until the fans actually throw beer bottles at him, then Rocchio, and if he's anything better than terrible they'll roll with him until Martinez rots on the vine. Maybe Vogt will force the issue but I think the front office makes that call.
I agree. We are gonna wait, and yet these three will and can change our lineup.
So you don’t think Arias can improve his batting average this season? I don’t want a guy at short who hits less than 10 homers a season
@@stephenk5455 he could definitely do it, but it's gonna take a lot. He's late on everything hoping to take it to right field and he's never hit lefties beyond AA. My point is, even if he doesn't hit they'll keep him there until June given the track record.
Agree 100%. Our pathetic lineup can be improved GREATLY with Manzardo, Martinez, even Freeman, Delauter. Atlanta has the guts to play 20 year olds. Delauter is our best OF right now.

@@jjkmk DeLauter hasn't ever played above AA (and only a few games at that) but he does look the best. If he goes to AAA I won't be upset but if they use AAA to mess with Manzardo's service time and keep Freeman or Brennan in AAA with Rocchio, Arias, and Florial in the majors we're in for a rough season.
Arias can play anywhere in the field except catcher and CF. He's elite at every infield position and decent in the outfield corners. That's why they're still hanging onto him. Freeman learning center and looking good out there, plus Fry playing the corners/catcher and hitting well could make Arias superfluous though.
What is GBush going on about? Arias is 24 and has seen roughly 350 MLB at-bats. Very likely he never figures it out, but by all intentions of the word "young-player" that's exactly what he is. This is not Amed blocking the team from figuring out SS long-term.
Jose hasn't played 2B since the late-season trade for Donaldson in 2018.
Agreed, the most frustrating thing about the Arias hate is he is one of the few guys on our roster that has power. Why are they so quick to switch to Rocchio or Martinez if either of them may hit less than 10 home runs?
The inconsistency bugs me, plus Arias is very solid fielder, give him more time and see if he improves this season
If Arias doesn't win the SS job I think it's more likely he sticks with the club as a utility infielder than being traded or sent back to the minors. That way he's right there as a backup if whoever wins the job flames out.
Angel Martinez plays some shortstop. Perhaps this will be their play?

I think I remember Owen Miller hitting everything in a Spring training...then of course was terrible regular season regular team starters...just saying...pulling for Angel tho!

Bro, he had 10 home runs, was an elite glove, and has potential to figure out his swing and miss problems. Give him 40 games this season, he was starting to improve in the last 40 games of the season

Now is the time if Aris stumbles if Straw stumbles if our right fielder stumbles out of the gate bring these kids up and let them play!!! If Arias can't win the job in Cleveland then he can't win it anywhere else in the MLB
