*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*
I have the 4000 regular spinning reel and caught a 37” striper on it which is a big fish and just bought the 6000 bait feeder for my 11’ rod and I will say for the price Kastking is blowing some of the bigger companies out of the water with such a good quality reel for such a low price and I’m all for it
Nice! how is the new reel? I just bought the 6000 baitfeeder to go slay some snook. Tight lines 🤙
I’ve been looking into these reels and wasn’t sure about Kastking but I’m sold .
Thank you the review.
Happy to help!
Kastking makes outstanding reels. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quality reel.
Tony Spangler thanks for watching! Hope you consider subscribing!
Thanks for the feedback, really useful
No problem!
Love the shirt, Thanks for your support
My pleasure!
Great Review Buddy! Happy Fishing!
Thank you! Looking forward to your next one!
I might have to get one. Great review video!
You won’t be disappointed! Link is in the description!
Thanks for the video. I bought myself a 6000 as well. Targeting those monsters. Your video definitely secured confidence in using this reel real soon. Thanks Jake
No problem man
thanks for the info
nice job
I used to use a bait feeder for Silver Salmon in Puget Sound back in the day. We would fly line herring using the tide current and what a great sound when the fish would grab and run with the bait. thanks for sharing.
You’re not wrong! The sound of the clicker screaming is one of the greatest sounds on earth!
Appreciate ya watching!
@@jigginwithjake2796 your welcome.
I grew up catfishing at night with the adults. I moved on to bass and crappie as I got older.
Now I'm going to start fishing for cats with my boys.
I appreciate your help. God bless
Enjoy those memories with your boys, Hombre! That’s the good stuff! Glad you enjoyed the video. Hope you consider subscribing!
Done.
Don’t miss out on the giveaway I’m running! You can find it my video line up!
Thank you for all your information I will order this tonight I got in a new whisker seeker pole in today
Check that link in the description buddy! If you order from there it helps the channel!
Just bought my Megatron 6000 put it on my new ugly stick tiger can't wait to try it out . That new bait feeder is next for my big daddy all star graphite rod. Thank you
i bought the 3000 a few months ago and fell in love with it. its done great with the smaller fish. even some decent flatheads. loved it so much i just got the 6000 in this week. cant wait to throw a bluegill on it and see how it handles the Mississippi River.
Love my 6000’s. Thinking about buying some 3000 for some medium rods I’ve got.
@@jigginwithjake2796 I caught a 14.5 lb flathead on my 3000 the first time using it. It handled it perfectly. I'm sold. Thanks for introducing me to them
My pleasure buddy and congrats!
Im buying a 12 foot rod and the 6000 for it.
Worth it! I got 4 of them!
^^^ This guy turned me on to these reels!
@@jigginwithjake2796 is the 6000 size too big. Gonna use for carp, cats, and possibly salmon or steelhead. Likely only for carp and catfish. I like using 8lb mono on a 3000 size reel for steelies but when you get fresh kings they spool man lol
Just ordered a 4000 bait runner. Really looking forward to trying it out. Up to now I pretty much only use Penn.
I’ve been nothing but happy with my Kastking reels and at half the price of a Penn.... You can’t go wrong!
Thanks for watching!
Same here, ordered a 4000 and 6000 ... very excited!
Jeeze that was a massive cat fish O.O I just got my sharky baitfeeder, I cant wait to fish it. I'm newer to fishing so this is my big step up. Hopefully I cant catch some beauties similarly .
Thank you my friend! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
Great reels! I own two of the 3000 & 5000 series. Nice video btw!
tell me how the 5000 coil showed itself in practice, is it reliable enough. and can it work under load?
I use this setup/ Striper rod/ Sharky 3 4000 baitfeeder..live line bunker..Great setup reel and rod.
Thanks Paul! I appreciate ya watching! I tend to agree. I’ve been nothing but pleased with my Sharky III reels!
I got my hands on one as well, gonna be adding another to my arsenal 😏
Thank you so much for explaining the baitfeeder switch! I've just bought this reel 3000 and I cannot figure out what that lever switch is for. I am in my 60s, long time angler but this is my 1st purchase on a reel over $50. I had all my fishing rods & reels bought in combo under $50 each set and I never had problem reeling in my catch since they were never over 5 lbs. Hope this reel would bring me luck!:)).
You’ll love that option on this reel! Especially if you’re targeting catfish or carp. Once you hear that clicker scream, you’ll never go back! Glad I could help you with your lifelong passion. May your next trip be the greatest you’ve ever had!
Once you use the bait feeder for surf fishing in saltwater or carp catfish in freshwater you won't want to use anything else
The baitfeeser switch disengages the reel and lets the spool freespin so I'ma fish can grab the live bait without feelings tension and swim away and eat it instead of hitting and dropping. You can adjust the tension on the feed with the rear knob and that will be adjusted based on the current your fishing basically.
I've got 3 love them no problems
Same here!
Great vid bro i have been wondering about the Kastking brand so I will be looking to make a purchase in the near future brother thanks
Couldn’t be happier with mine! Thanks for watching, bro!

I have a KK Sharky 3 6000. Reeled in a 9 lb blue fish w it. It sorta held up I think. I heard a clicking. Not sure what it was. Reeled in many other smaller blues after that as well as good sized porgies, not bad. Hope I didn't strip the gears with the 9lb blue, he Gave me a good fight. I'm going for The Rover Baitcaster 70 now. It may be better than the Sharky 3 for blues.
WhiteFeather sorry to hear you had an issue with yours. I’ve landed many 25# blues on my Sharky 6000’s. Never had an issue.
I have the 5000 size it was a little too small for my surfcaster but threw it on a 7ft medium heavy and it’s perfect caught a solid 20in striper which is a hard fighting fish
Solid reels for the price!
I bought my son in Law the 4000 for Xmas last year. It has held up in the fight with some nice size Stripers, But the real test was two weeks ago in the SF Bay catching a big Stingray (43" wing span). nice crazy fight as you know they swim in all directions, his Sharkey 4000 baitrunner is on a 7' Tiger ugly Stick with 30lb braid... I just ordered me a Centron 3000 for the surf.
Oh, I think the Sharky has its place. It’s suited for big fish. I have the 6000. Are there better reels for more $, you know it. But, for a budget conscious, land locked catfisherman. It’s a solid purchase.
Bet that Sting Ray was fun!
@@jigginwithjake2796 Yes it was, he is new to fishing and is having a blast at it. He said that he always thought that we were just talking smack on hearing the reel scream out, lol . ... Now he has his own story...
That’s what it’s all about! Making memories! That clicker scream is one to remember for sure! Gets my heart pumping every time!
got one from aliexpress an year ago. because fishing supplies are scarce in israel and if we do have something on sale it is exttemely overpriced. this reel is really good for its price.
Viewer coming in from Israel. That’s awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I bout 2 of these 3 years ago 5000 and still going strong
I caught a 40” snook on my 4000 and it handle it flawlessly I live in south Florida and if anyone of y’all know how a snook fights then you would be impressed I was!!!
The Sharky III is tough as nails. Landed a 33# Flathead on the same reels in this review. Going on 3 years now. No failure. It’s a solid reel!
Considering the 3000 version of this reel for my crappie rods.
I use the valiant eagle 1000 series from Kastking on my crappie rods. My buddy bought the 3000 series Sharky for a few Channel Cat set ups. They’re fairly large. So I don’t know how well they would work for crappie.
Lee Sharp I need that hat
I have the 3000 using it with a bait alarm!
Right on.
Nice video and very informative. You think the 5000 would work just fine for big cats too?
Thank you, Raider. Yes, I do think the 5000 would handle big cats with out a problem.
I like that
It’s a nice reel for the price
I wanted a bait feeder
Bait clickers are almost always exclusively on bait casters, so it's nice to see one on a spinning reel
Agreed
I bought a piscifun carnivoreX which is a baitfeeder for 25$ in amazon brand new, it is a 6000 series looking forward to take if for gar
Is the sell still going on?
Just got this reel in the mail today I ordered the 3000 I am surprised how big and bulky it is and heavy. And the line capacity is not great. Hopefully it will handle the steelhead and king salmon and catfish
I just ordered a 3000 size off eBay. I started doing some research after my order on Amazon and have read page after page of how the reel flexes with big fish and the stem brakes. There are also several photos of broken reel stems. These were reviews from as current as last fall so I would assume the reel hasn’t been updated. I will see if I can simulate a fish on my line when I get it to see if it’s hard to wind and flexes I guess.
Update. I’ve seen one break. My brother broke one on a 26# blue. Snapped the reel stem. BUT. The drag was locked down tight and the fish couldn’t take line. Had the drag been set right, it wouldn’t have happened. Keep in mind, we are using the 6000 reels.
My sharky 111 bait feeder broke after 3 weeks of fishing. Caught 15 plus fresh-water drum with it and it started winding with resistance. I found three of the reel lugs snapped off. Called Kasrking and their rep told me he owned three of them and they ALL did the same thing and was a weak design flaw. He said these reels are about to be discontinued 10:06
Had my big catrod jerked out of the rod holder and was swimming across the lake in a blink of an eye was standing right next to it had no time to react had to be a 20 maybe 30 cat lol im ordered one of these
You won’t regret it!
I bet this would be good for Gar
Going to buy a baitrunner for channel catfish your review was very helpful would you go with the 4000 or 5000 thank you
I’d go 4000 for channel cats
yea nice reel, I have one over 3 years, used a lot, so to say what is broke. Like 20 days ago my handle cap is broken. now i have little bit problem with handle, is still working but i need to repair that, it more sentimental worth now. so If you ahve soem advice how to fix handle cap?! I tried with offical site , i need to wait like 30 days and is not worth it.
Beyond replacement parts from Kastking, I’m not sure I can help. But, to hear that you got 3 years of fishing from what I would consider a mid range priced reel is amazing! Especially, if you fished it hard!
Hey I just wanted to say is on sale right now is 49$
I like kastking reel o got a 3000 and a 5000
I also got a 3000
Thinking of getting one As a spare for beachcasting using a 12 foot rod and 4 ounce lead. What do U think
Yup! I think you’d do alright.
I bought one of these and it broke by the stem with 2 months of use... 2 starts I'll give this because of my experience
I have a 8ft medium 15/30lb line test rod, do you recommend a 4000 or 6000?
4000 or 5000 should be great. Thank you for watching and don’t forget, there’s a link to those reels in the description! Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Still fish with these poles and reels
Haven’t seen you use this in a while. Is the Sharky 3 still performing well?
It is. Just haven’t connected with anything noteworthy on those rods recently. I’ll take them next time I go out for Blue Cats. See if I can’t land a good one on the Sharky.
I have one coming up for ya.
Excelente. Será que posso usar com iscas artificiais?
Yes you sure can
Thank you very much
Hey man I have a 7 ft 5-8kg uglystik what size reel do I put. 3000 or 4000?
I’ve got the 6000 on mine. But if I were to do it again, I’d go 4000.
What size reel i need for beach sea fushing?
Definitely the 6000 series.
What do you think about the megatron?
The Megatron isn’t a reel I’ve tried. May have to look into it.
I owned the Kastking Megatron 2000, 3000 and 4000... trust me all are powerful, smooth and sturdy reels... You wouldn't regret to own one
Nice what size is that
6000 series
What lb reel did you use to catch the 26lb?
Lb reel or line? Reel is a 6000 series. Line is 60lb braid from reaction tackle.
Need help everyone. Just bought a 7 foot medium heavy action ugly stick gx2 with double guides. Would a 5000 baitrunner be to big or perfect.
Just fished with a buddy last night that had the 5000. I think it’ll fit fine on that GX2.
Shoot! I’ve got my 6000’s on 7’ Ugly Stix Catfish rods!
I'd go with a 6000 or 7000. Read my previous comment about a 9lb bluefish.
I'd go with a Kast King Rover Baitcaster for Big Blues and Strypers.
Looking for a reel that supports long distance casting (60+ yards). How does this reel fare?
In my opinion, long distance is better achieved with bait casting reels. But, if you teamed this reel up on a 10+ foot rod, I’m sure you would get some better distances.
@@jigginwithjake2796 im thinking same thing. I have an 12' ugly stick big water rod. Just bought the 6000 series kastking model. Hopefully I achieve the distance. Fishing the savannah river by the dam in heavy current. Thats where the big cats/stripers roam
@@jigginwithjake2796 can you explain this to me. I always cast farther on spinning than baitcaster. Spinning reel line flies off. Baitcaster spool is perpendicular to line and slows doen my cast for me. Please explain!
What rod do you have that reel on?
That’s the ole Ugly Stix 2 piece Catfish Special.
Just picked up a 3000 for $48...cant believe I spent so little on a bait feeder...most Io the bait feeders go for about 5 that.
Agreed! For the money they are money!
What size is the reel in the video
Hey Juan. That’s the 6000 series. Thanks for watching! Hope you consider subscribing!
3000 is a great.
Rear drag setup river fishing 2500?
The rear drag on this reel adjusts the tension on the bait feeder. Front drag adjusts the actual drag for the reel.
May i ask you folk. how long is your rod ?
That’s the 7’ Ugly Stix Catfish Special rod. If I’m not mistaken, it’s linked in the description.
Hi sir . For this brand can i use it for surf cast .? Please help
Yes. It is built for salt water use. The internal gears are sealed.
@@jigginwithjake2796 thank you so much sir .. cause my cousin surprise me with 15ft rod and I thought of getting this reel for suft casting . Tbh im new at fishing
There is a link to the 6000 series reel in the description of this video as well. That will pair great with the 15’ rod you have.
Have fun out there!
Dostum bu makinenin 6000 den aldım,umarım büyük baliklar yakalarım
Good day, can i use that for jigging?
The reel, yes. The baitfeeder option, however, would likely not be a benefit while jigging.
I have a sharky 3 5000
Would like to know how to use the bait feature. When do you turn it down?
The bait runner disengages when you reel down on a fish. Or you can disengage it manually. I prefer to disengage it manually and let the fish load the rod before reeling down on it.
I love the Sharky three I've got it and I love it I've also got some smaller ones thinking about getting the bigger bigger one Bob Elkhart I also would like to see more women out there fishing and more videos of women it's just not for men or children it for everybody
What size fishing reel is that
6000 series
I got the kastking 5000 what be good braid or how many lbs test
I use reaction tackle 65# braid. Use promo code PS15OFF to save 15% off your order
@@jigginwithjake2796 I got my reel today in mail
Heck yeah man! Hope you enjoy it!
Wow...I must’ve just gotten a bad one. As soon as I felt the cheaply made baitrunner tensioning knob on the rear, I put it back in the box and returned it. I swear it felt like the knob was going to come apart in my hand. I was disappointed, for I really wanted this to be a great reel.
There are several folks that have expressed issues. I have yet to have any with mine. Hope it stays that way.
What size line & length do you have on the mono spool?
I have 25# on my mono spool. I believe it holds approx 200 yards of 25#
@@jigginwithjake2796 Thanks, just discovered your channel and have been binge watching.....
Happy to hear it

you using it in salt water at all?
I am not. Land locked in Illinois.
Well I hope you're right, cos I now have 3 x 5000 and a 6000...
Only one I’ve seen break at the handle was due to the drag not being set properly. So, I think you’ll enjoy them.
tell me how the 5000 coil showed itself in practice, is it reliable enough. and can it work under load?
@@user-vb4bg3ne4t Well covid reminded the locals about boating laws and permits etc, which has made boating tricky... but what trips I have managed the Kastkings have been fine, holding up well. Even my father in law has kept his alive, and his famous for killing reels (mostly by putting away soaking wet with salt water)
Only issue i have is there not strong when u reel they flex i hated that or id buy 6
I haven’t had any issues with mine. But I hear that is a common problem.
@@jigginwithjake2796 if they fixed that it would be a phenomenal reel all around
I hope people understand that a "braid ready" spool is just a gimmick to get you to fill an entire spool with braid and waste your money. A mono backing of desired length and a mono leader of any length is the best of both worlds. No need for a swivel, uni to uni if tied properly will never fail. Also if you know how many inches your reel takes per turn you can do the math and figure out exactly how many turns of mono you need to split a spool of braid with another reel.
I wouldn’t say it’s a gimmick. I see your position on being cost effective by using mono backing. However, not everyone is concerned with the cost of braid. Particularly the Reaction Tackle braid, which is extremely cost effective. Also, a mono leader without a swivel is not ideal when targeting big catfish.
@@jigginwithjake2796a connection knot is required to use a leader longer than your rod. Now you got the strength and distance of braid with the forgiveness of mono. i target giant Striper with the uni to uni connection knot and theyre much more powerful than catfish. Also cheap braid has quality control issues a lot of the time. "Catfish and Carp" channel also recommends uni to uni. It just has to be tied properly, a lot of people think theyre tying it correctly but are not.
@@kevinoreilly2504 dude chill i catch striper with hi-lo rigs
@@airsoftluke17 your point? I wasn't having a pissing contest. Im discussing connection knots and the applications.
@@kevinoreilly2504 jeez no need to bust your balls broski you are just like overcomplicating things for fishing. I use a hi-lo rig and catch at least 3 keepers everytime i go. I was just saying you dont need that fancy of a rig
You've gotten a bait caster now haven't you?
Yeah. I added 2 Abu 6500 Catfish Specials on the Whisker Seeker 9’6” heavy.
@@jigginwithjake2796 wise. You’ll still be using those abu Garcia’s when those KK baitrunners are in the landfill. Sorry...just keepin’ it real
Love the channel... Dislike the KastKing Baitrunner and thier service department. Sent me a 6000 instead of a 5000 but left a extra spool that's a 5000 (doesn't fit the 6000 reel). Also, the reel isn't smooth... The KastKing store on Amazon isn't worth beans. Lost 50$ on this one... never again. Back to Penn and Shimano for me... Maybe I got a bad one but the company doesn't care.
My Sharky 3 had a fail and broke!! It wasn't even used that much and I can tell you this reel has it's problems. You can check out my footage of the broken reel here.

Mine broke at the shank.
Sorry to hear that man. I noted that I’ve heard there were issues with the reel seat. Mine have held up good. Honestly, I think the 6000 series Sharky would hold up fine for any of the big cats I’m potentially up against. Hopefully, Kastking addresses those issue.
