Have had this reel in the 4000 for two years. It’s my workhorse and I am happy with it. I fish in a kayak inshore in South Texas and it has landed me some great fish. Brought in a good size black drum a while back and it was flawless. Great drag system. Only problem is that I can’t figure out how to justify spending more for “fancier” reels.

Chris... I bought 3 of the 6000 size Sharkey 3, bait feeders, and put them on 3 Wisker Seeker Brand 7'6" Cat fish rods, which are excellent Rods, not just for Catfishing, nor are the Reels. Yeah they are excellent Value Reels.

What a timely review ! I ordered the 5000 model just 2 days ago, just going on the specs vs price, specifically for beach fishing, also inedibles, due to the high drag force. Good to hear the experts like it.

When they are new (before you put any line on them), it doesn't hurt to spray them down with a wax/ceramic coating. I generally prefer the spray bottles, but it helps prevent physical contact with salt water, at least long enough to rinse it off by the time you get home. Not perfect, and it's not do it once and forget it, but if you replace your line every other season (depending on how much you fish), you can really prolong rust.

i’ve switched my whole inshore stand of reels to the 2000’s and 3000’s. i guided 220 trips last year, most of the reels on their 2nd year. they live in the salt air and get wet daily. still haven’t had a main gear go in any of them. some drag washers, thumb rest has fallen off a few, and paint bubbles and chips off. but they all are still smooth. most of my my bg’s and penns are prettier. most of those feel like pepper grinders. thanks for making this video.

I really like them , for the value. They are not as smooth as Okuma or Shimanos, which are buttery smooth, but that doesnt matter. They are strong, good quality, great value. Mine are The bait runner versions. I will say the rear drag on them, does not dial down as Light as a Okuma Or Shimano bait runners. Finally, just get one...

I don't know how many people reading this realize how enormous that drag force is--the old Penn 500 (Jigmaster) caught everything including sailfish and it's drag? About 10 pounds or less, today's spinning reels (like this one is incredible. AND they make one with a bait feeder, hard to do without it once you use one that has it.

It's the handle which only thread on. It seems quite flimsy. It doesn't help when fighting big fish, I guess. 12kg drag but with flimsy body/handle.. Does anyone has the same experience?

Krap king makes reels that break its just a matter of when. Basically the reel equivalent of disposable razors for anglers who are "Average Joes". That Krap Kings own words if you read their story about a bunch of J -off Syracuse Drop outs that decided to try and take down companies that build real reels. Penn, Daiwa, Shimano ETC. The materials are 1/2 a grade above pot metal with stamped gears and cheap flimsy parts like the reel handles. For $50.00 you can get a basic Penn, Daiwa, Shimano model; that won't fail or cost you the fish of a lifetime.
Life Is to Short to screw around with Krap "Say no to these clowns"
