    The aluminum spool is designed for braided line. The graphite spool is for mono or flouro and is designed to keep the weight down. The gear ratio is 5.5:1 which is a little higher than most other baitfeeder reels. This makes it a bit faster on retrieve and increases the inches per turn. I plan on buying one soon!

    Thank you for showing how loud the drag is compared to the Okuma. I have both Okuma and Daiwa baitfeeders and the quiet drag is the one thing I don't like about them. Think I need a Sharky now. Thanks.

      Both great reels.for the money. I own two Avengers that I have had for a couple of years and they have been great. I would probably go with the Sharky for two reasons, its bait feeder is louder and I use the bait feeder quite a bit. The second reason is it is saltwater hardy/approved and I fish saltwater about a third of the time.

    The bail pivot point is actually receiving most of the pressure. The thicker wire helps in keeping the bail sturdy. Otherwise, the elbow will snap easily.

    I bought 6000 sharky. foot stem needs to be addressed!if it wasnt for that.these reels would be awesome.its so much of an issue i couldn't turn the handle on a 27'' catfish.the reel shifted so much it was hard to turn it felt like the gears were stuck.yes it is a great reel performance as far as features that you pointed out.until this foot stem is addressed i will be replacing this reel.

    One complaint I keep reading about the reels is that the shaft/support arm is flimsy and flexes (in some cases broken). Is there a way to reinforce the shaft on a reel? What would you recommend?

    • @mitchelltrammell9109
      @mitchelltrammell9109  Před 5 lety

      I think you are talking about the foot and it is made out of plastic or graphite. I am using a 3000 size reel and have caught some pretty decent size fish, red fish and carp in the 10 to 20 pound range and never felt like the foot was flexing or stressed. If you were using it for much larger species surf fishing or deep sea fishing, then maybe the plastic foot could be an issue. I target freshwater rand inshore species and the plastic foot does not bother me. I have several bait casting reels that also have a plastic/graphite foot and have never had an issue. As to how you could reinforce or strengthen it, I don't see any way to do that without having an option to replace it with a foot made of a sturdier material.

    How much longevity do you think this reel has. I was thinking of buying a spinvisher v 4500 live liner, and I love Penn products cause even the entry level reels stand up to time. Of course its twice the price, but I would rather pay that than buy this reel twice.

    • @mitchelltrammell9109
      @mitchelltrammell9109  Před 5 lety +3

      I honestly don't know the longevity of the reel, but I would expect it to have a long life with proper care. I can say I have had it for about four months and have used it a lot both in fresh and saltwater and it has performed flawlessly. I believe the longevity has a lot has to do with the care of the reel. I always rinse my reels with fresh water after being in saltwater and I take them apart and clean them at least once per year. I can honestly say that I have had very few reels fail over the years. I even still have my very first bait caster from 1984 an Abu Garcia 5000. I have replaced worn out parts in the 5000 such as the drag washers . the worm gear and brakes but it still works well. One thing about the Spinfisher is its a completely sealed reel if I remember correctly, which is a nice feature if you are going to be using it in extreme salt conditions where it could get dunked frequently.

      @@mitchelltrammell9109 Thank you for your reply. I have the KastKing Kodiac 4000, and it is a great reel. I regret not buying the bigger size because these reels run very small compared to other reels such as Penn. I bought it on Amazon without holding it in my hand first. Thanks for the advice.....

    Does the handle free spin when you hard cast it? I hated the old sharky i 10000 for that.. whenever you hard cast, it would spin and lock it self then cut your line. Smooth but annoying reel.

    • @mitchelltrammell9109
      @mitchelltrammell9109  Před 6 lety +1

      No, handle does not spin when hard casting. I have used it with a 1 ounce pyramid weight when surf fishing and this did not occur.

    kastking or Okuma...if you had one to choose from the two baitfeeders that you have which one would you go with?

    • @mitchelltrammell9109
      @mitchelltrammell9109  Před 5 lety +3

      Both nice reels, but I would chooses the Kastking because of the bait feeder being louder. I use the bait feeder quite a bit when carp fishing and when live bait fishing for blue and flat head catfish and the louder sound the kastking produces is important to me in those situations.

    I just bought a 6000 series. Seems fine on look need to test. How's the experience for you so far. One thing I noticed the handle knob should have been mental. There's a tiny piece of plastic washer kind of thing between the knob. Worried if somehow if I loose it might end up in disaster. And seems the baitfeeder knob wobbling as if it's loose.

    • @mitchelltrammell9109
      @mitchelltrammell9109  Před 5 lety

      Interesting, my bait feeder knob/drag is not loose at all. There is no play in the knob when I try and wiggle it side to side. So far the reel has been excellent, no complaints form me.

    • @robertsanchez4588
      @robertsanchez4588 Před 4 lety

      Possibly, the "tiny piece of plastic washer kind of thing between the knob" is referring to the "plastic plug that has to be removed when swapping the handle from side to side, which is shown in the video".
      GREAT video, the information that I needed to make my decision. Well done!

    • @mitchelltrammell9109
      @mitchelltrammell9109  Před 3 lety

      Still a great reel. I was just at the beach in November of this year catching bull reds in the surf and the reel performed well. Keep in mind I do perform regular maintenance on all my reels. I always rinse them after using them in salt water and I take them apart , clean and lube them once or twice a year.

    What's the best size for inshore fishing for specs,reds, black drum and flounder?

    • @mitchelltrammell9109
      @mitchelltrammell9109  Před 5 lety

      I personally like the 3000 size reel for inshore. I have used it in the surf and bay catching reds, specs, drum, bluefish, lady fish, and whiting with great results. I use 20lb power pro braid with a 20 or 25lb fluorocarbon leader. I would not go larger than a 4000 for inshore. The 3000 size reel is very close to the size of a 4000 size Okuma and quite a bit smaller than a 4000 Lews Inshore.

    • @mitchelltrammell9109
      @mitchelltrammell9109  Před 5 lety +1

      No, the handle does not screw in. You unscrew the screw from the opposite side that the handle is currently on, then you slide the handle out and insert into the side where you removed the screw. There is a plastic plug that has to be removed when swapping the handle from side to side, which is shown in the video.
