    I've had mine (17 ft SD) since 2014 and have done a lot of traveling from FL to Maine and a couple of summers in the western USA (NM, CO, WY, UT).. A few things have become broken, lose that I've had to tend to, but overall, I've been satisfied with it. I haven't done any mods - not mechanically inclined, but enjoy seeing what others have done.

    I just found your video and enjoyed it very much. I have a 2007 17' SD and have only had it out once. I am getting ready to take it out tomorrow for my first solo trip. Thank you for the idea of draping the shower curtain across the toilet area with command hooks. I tried a tension rod but the top and sides were sloping too much to make that work. I see you use scissor jacks for your jack stands. Have you ever considered mounting them to the frame? I have thought of doing that but didn't know if it were even possible. I am happy I found your channel and will check out your other videos.

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 6 lety +1

      I did think of mounting the jacks, but I decided that the trouble of cranking them all the way up each time would take longer. As it is now, I just crank them down enough to get them out from under the frame which makes for quicker set up at the next stop.

    My Wife and I are looking at Fiberglass RV's - We are more of the type that stays at State Park touring or RV Parks with shower house, My Offensive Lineman body frame isn't gonna fit in a RV bathroom anyway. So we are looking at the similar Layout but with the front couch, I tent camped a lot as a kid, and later my dad and I camped in a "Cloud 9" fiberglass camper for a while, so I understand all the good things about them. We currently have Three Border Collie Girls 11yrs / 2yrs and / 10mos (Yes we are Crazy) We had Four, but our oldest (14.5yrs) went over the rainbow bridge last week. For the last 17 years we have been living in a Castle Sized Tiny home, 672 sq. ft. - Its just the wife and I and 3 dogs, our bedroom and bathroom is a little wider than your coach, but only about 15ft long, so lack of space is not gonna kill us, we "lived" in that part of the house when the rest was being worked on... I see you took a Tour of that 20' Rockwood...and sounds like you still have your "Casita Egg" any BIG complaints on the "Egg"?

    Many thanks

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 6 lety +2

      I appreciate your engaging with us on our channel. Our video on the white tubes to store the sewage hoses is on our CZcams channel at czcams.com/video/zpKj1RtfKWw/video.html . In the morning, we roll the 4" toppers as tight as possible, with sheets still attached and then we turn them longways and slide them to the back and cover them with a lightweight blanket we got at Walmart for $3 bucks or so. They kind of just stay in place with the blanket over them. This leave us plenty of room to sit and even stretch out on the couches if watching TV or reading or just hanging out. Thank you again for the comments.

    Nice video. You have done a nice job on your Casita. We have an ID and I too am trying to figure out the small table situation and creative mods for it. Am curious, where do you plug your microwave in at? Am I missing a plug above the stove? We don’t have a microwave, but sure would like to plug our Instant Pot in the stove area. The cord will not reach over to the one above your add on counter space (we have one of those now too).

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 6 lety +2

      I put the plug in myself... I used to be an electrician among other things in my working life!!! We used to use a 3 foot heavy duty extension cord plugging into that plug you are talking about and ran it behind the sink faucet over to the stove area.... maybe that could work for you. I wired my new plug mounted in the back of the vent hood into that plug in the overhead. Thank you for asking. Have a great day.

    This is a nice video of your Casita, I am wondering how easy it is to tow your trailer, how much does it weigh and what gas mileage do you get towing with your Grand Cherokee with V6 or V8. Thanks Greg

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 5 lety +1

      The Jeep tows it very easily with great power and acceleration even on grades in mountains. It weighs about 2,500 Lbs. empty, 365 Lbs. tongue weight. The Jeep has a V6 and we get 17-19 MPG depending on speed and grades... I usually hold it at 63 MPH on most freeways.

    Do you sleep on the benches without making them into a double bed? How wide are the benches in the Liberty and are they wide enough to be comfortable for you or would it be better to get the Independence model with the cramped space between the benches for eating?

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 4 lety

      They are very comfortable and plenty wide enough for us. The leg space between the benches is 28" (as shown in this trailer review). The width of the bench is 25". The Independence model benches are 31" wide, but the leg space between the benches is only 15". Take a look as well at the Independence trailer review where I discuss this space issue. Cindy's sister had the Independence model and the leg space was a major issue, but they enjoyed the wider beds. For us, the beds are just fine. You can also in our model leave a double bed made up and use the small dining table and have that space always set up... however, we found that to be limiting interior space too much for our liking.

    The v-loggers have clarified, below, that they don't keep the dog in the kennel in the trailer while hauling the trailer. While hauling, the dog is in the kennel but that is with them in their SUV - so that's okay by me and I retract my admonition on that basis. Since the kennel is in the car with them, the dog can let them know, or they can ascertain, if there is a problem. My concern was that if the kennel was kept in the trailer while it was being hauled down the road - since that is not happening, I retract my admonition.

    Great Video presentation on your 17' Casita Deluxe. Can you tell me if the total length is just for the trailer body itself or is that the length from the trailer ball coupler to the rear back end of the trailer ? Also, did you mention the model year of your Casita?I don't recall seeing or hearing that info. Thanks in advance for your reply(s).

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 5 lety

      The total length is from ball to bumper, which makes the body about 13 1/2 feet in length. The trailer was picked up in Jan. 2017 at the factory and I checked the plate on the frame and they tagged it as a 2016 model. The only change from 2016 to 2017 is that a few months after we picked ours up they started installing the slender vertical tail lights instead of a square one and they moved it higher up closer to the belly band. I am not sure if there is a consistent model year time frame or if it just happens.

    thank you both. a nice little video. i was thinking i would use the microwave space for a cabinet, for an alpicool fridge/freezer (which runs on dc power) to supplement the small fridge. and i'd use an induction cook top (double burner) in place of the stove, which saves on space, and diminishes propane use in the camper. why burn through propane faster than i have to?

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 2 lety

      There isn't a built-in or mounted TV antenna. I use one of the portable flat digital antenna if I am in an area where you can pick up local channels. There is an external coax connector for RV Park cable TV. The TV mount is stable enough so that nothing is needed for travel days.

    • @sandywhalen6713
      @sandywhalen6713 Před 2 lety

      @@RVAdventuresTV in ours there is a coax cable running from the tv to the upper cupboard by the bathroom. The coax is attached to a smaller wire that is connected to a special flat piece, about 3 x 8, which must be sort of an antenna and is stuffed into the crevice of the bathroom wall. The is also another small wire running under carpeting toward bathroom from the upper cupboard with a coax end and i don’t know if anything is on the other end--doesn’t seem to be connected to tv! I have pictures & will see if Casita can answer if you can’t. Thanks for your reply.

    I have questions: (1) Where did you get the shelf/table extension next to the sink? Did you install it and how is it attached? (2) How did you attach the paper towel holder and the coat rack on the door? Where is the closet electrical outlet for the microwave? Thanks!

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 5 lety

      The shelf/table extension was purchased online from Little House Customs. I attached it by drilling into the side and bolting it using short stainless machine screws with washers and locknuts. It is a little tight in there due to the sink and furnace, but it can be done. The paper towel holder is done the same way, drilled thru and bolted to the wall... washer and locknut are over the carpet lining the cabinet above the sink. The coat rack, you guessed it, I drilled holes and bolted it. I always use stainless machine bolts, washers, and locknuts. I installed a new electrical outlet inside of the vent hood housing myself (past electrical experience) using the circuit from the closest plug in the overhead above the bench by the sink. It is easy to pick up that circuit in the electric box in the overhead cabinet and run the wire around the outside wall under the carpet that pulls up easily. If you don't install a new outlet, you can run an extension cord (3') from that existing plug to power a microwave or other appliance sitting on the stove top.

    Hi, beautiful camper. I noticed your tv is a Jeep. What’s the tow capacity of the Jeep? Do you need WDH? How about brake controller. Enjoy your traveling with your casita. Thanks for sharing.

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 5 lety +2

      The towing capacity is 6,500 Lbs GVW of the trailer and 650 Lbs. hitch weight. We don't need a WDH due to the Jeep having load balancing suspension, part of the factory installed tow package. When we hook up the trailer, the Jeep lowers about 2 inches and then when we take off, it levels itself out. We have the Prodigy P2 controller ( amzn.to/2BFgO8d ). Brake controllers are required in so many states and it is wise to have one. It works great.

      Thanks for the reply. That sounds like the perfect towing vehicle for casita. If you don’t mind, what’s the model of the Jeep? I ordered a casita spirit dlx for August delivery. I have a Lexus RX 350 now, which is a little underpowered for 17’ casita. Right now I am not in position to exchange car. When time comes, I will definitely get a stronger vehicle even if I have to buy used. Casita sales rep recommended getting WDH for lexus. I still have to install towing hitch, brake controller and wire harness. Lots to do and lots to learn. But I get time and many good sources of information on the internet from people like you. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

    We’ll get our 17’ LD in October! I love the kennel mounted table. Where can I find how to do that?

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 3 lety +3

      I will attempt to explain... I didn't make a video on that. I cut two 1x4s the width of the top of the kennel plus 4", where it is flat, one for the front and one for the back. I then cut two 2x2s that same length. You take a jigsaw and cut four 2 1/2" square openings in the side of the kennel who's top edge is flush with the top of the kennel and in the correct place to mount under the 1x4. The idea is the 1x4 is on top of the kennel, the 2x2 is under the top of the kennel both lines up and sticking out the same on each side. You then bolt the 1x4 to the 2x2 going through the kennel, 3 bolts. You then attach a 1x4 to the 1x4 & 2x2 sticking out the sides going the length of the kennel on each side. Mount them 1/4" higher than the top mounted 1x4. Now, cut two 1x4s and two 2x2s the same length as the previous 1x4s. Attach them together with the 2x2s at the top edge of the 1x4s. Now, you mount your cabinet slides on the 1x4s that are mounted to the kennel and mount the 1x4/2x2 assembly to the other side of the cabinet slides. Now, you take your table top and attach it to the two 2x2/1x4 assemblies. I will make a drawing and answer this reply with a link to it later.

      I use a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is rated to pull up to 7,200 Lbs. with a hitch weight of 650# max. The Jeep does a great job of towing and the performance is great. When towing the Casita, I get about 17 MPG at 62-63 MPH and 20 MPG at 55 MPH. Thank you for the comment and question.

      The table top is a folding plastic table purchased at Wal-Mart. It is a Costco brand. They had a couple of sizes to pick from. I separated the two halves, took the legs off, attached some wood runners on the bottom and attached heavy duty drawer slides to those runners. I then attached wood runners to the sides of our dog crate for the slides to attach. The table meets our needs while still leaving a spot for Sunny.

      Eileen are you saying you have the Independence? What is your thoughts on the two layouts? We are trying to decide if we want to buy the Independence or the Liberty. The Liberty that Allen and Cindy have here seems like it is laid out similar to the Independence but has much more room in between the beds which seems like an advantage! But I am bigger than Allen so I am worried that sleeping room might be not enough. Thanks for your thoughts.

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV  Před 5 lety +3

      It is for 3 seasons. The holding tanks and drain plumbing is all exposed under the bottom. The fresh water tank and lines are all inside. I have been out in 20-degree weather with no issues (I add a cup of RV antifreeze in the black and gray tanks) but that is pushing it. The 6-gallon hot water heater is automatic on temperature control, it is not on-demand. You can run it on propane or 120 volts, both sources have on/off switches and both can be run at the same time for quicker hot water recovery if needed. Thank you for the compliment.

      Most folks that own a Casita, have already been through travel trailers and motorhomes. Casita's can fit where bigger can't and have everything the big rigs have. Another big plus is they hold their value. Stickbuilt travel trailers and motorhomes do not. The Casita setup and breakdown is not a big deal. I am on my second one, travel alone and have no issues towing, etc.
