    Gray video! I learned a lot about refrigeration and (high level) how it works. Thank you for this! My Dometic in my 2016 Casita is the same model as yours, with the same panel. I have owned the Casita for a couple of years and have never gotten the refrigerator to work when I wanted it to work; the key phrase, when I wanted it to work. I can’t seem to get the label to power up. However, one time when I was doing some minor work inside the Casita the panel and refrigerator were on! Running on propane! I was shocked. Rather than run out the propane, I pushed the Auto button and everything turned off. No panel power, no anything. We went through the same checks that you did, and still norhing. I find it interesting the panel On/Off is a detent, but the others are not; I can’t tell if they are functioning or not. For example, I would think the the Auto/On button would be detent type button, too. Anyway, we don’t seem to have any power to the panel. At least once we did, but not when we need or want it. I’m starting to think this may be a panel issue. Or, perhaps there is a short or problem in the power line to the fridge. I believe I once read on a Casita site where someone had a similar issue and changed out the panel and that was the solution. Any tips or suggestions? We are pretty handy, typically, in fixing things, and this has been vexing. Thanks for your help and input!

    Just watched again! Does your tow vehicle have a heavy duty alternator or a dc to dc converter? If you don't have anything special to run frig on "normal" tow alternator, I am going to, too, use the fridge on dc while traveling! Thanks. P.S. I think I will watch for third time and what else I can learn! 🤭

    I should have looked at this video first. I had an RV shop do it, I am not going to put what i foolishly paid. They did inspect the brakes though. I do all the work on the trailer but was unsure of the bearings. Why are RV bearings in need of re-greasing unlike cars?

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV Před 2 měsíci

      Car manufacturers feel that the modern grease is good enough to last the entire life of the car and without grease fittings, no contaminates can get into the bearings and joints. Not sure why RV makers don't feel the same way!

  • @americanrvtraveler2446
    @americanrvtraveler2446 Před 2 měsíci

    Dexter Axle recommends jacking up a trailer on the trailer frame, not on the axle or suspension system. To avoid damaging the trailer, do not place the jack on the axle. Instead, place the jack under the frame of the trailer or at a specified jack point on the side that has the flat tire. For added stability, add a flat piece of wood under the jack.

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV Před 2 měsíci

      The grease flows through the bearings and out around the hub as you pump in new grease, so there is not overfilling.

    Awesome video. I'm getting ready to do mine again. I will say though, I just purchased one of the ramps you drive the one wheel up and the other comes off the ground. Best $50 I ever spent. No jack involved and there's enough room to do this task, plus remove the tire in the event of a flat. On some trailers, you may have to put a 2 x 6 under the ramp to give it that extra inch and a half to get the tire off the ground. I only had about 3/8" of clearance between the tire and ground. It was enough, but next time I'll put a 2 x 6 under it to give me a little more room. Definitely look into one of those ramps. Worth every cent!!

    • @garyp9906
      @garyp9906 Před 2 měsíci

      @RVAdventuresTV Well, I may have to swallow my words. I live on a hill with a gravel driveway. The ramp works great for front tires on a dual axle trailer. However, when I try to back up on the ramp with rear tire, it pushes the ramp and won't allow the tire to go up. Perhaps it's because it's a gravel driveway. Not real happy now with the ramp. Had I known this, I wouldn't have bought it. I ended up using three 2 x 6's to get tire off the ground.

    I just bought a 1996 Casita with no battery in it. My converter is working when plugged into shore power okay . As the factory sticker says in the battery compartment BLACK is Positive WHITE is Negative My question is do I hook up the GREEN wire to the negative battery terminal as you did in the video? I’m curious as to what that GREEN wires purpose is, in my mind I associate GREEN with 120/240 volts A/C power as a GROUND WIRE…NEVER a DC 12 volt power ground wire. Thank you for an EXCELLENT clear and concise video. 👍 New subscriber here.

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV Před 2 měsíci

      I believe the green wire is for the AC side ground as you said. It doesn't serve a purpose on the DC side as far as I know. I am just a do-it-yourself person, so if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician. Thank you for your comment.

    great video! Given the cantilever of the trailer hitch aft of rear axel, it seems like the hitch weight is a fair bit LESS than 380 pounds. To me, Hitch Weight is the same as Tongue Weight, which I calculate as: (2720+3120) - (2780+2740) = 320 pounds. This is somewhat light of the 10% tongue weight that I consider to be a bare minimum. I tend to target closer to 15%, constrained of course by the hitch tongue rating. It may be worth piling some supplies further forward in your trailer to improve towing a bit.

    • @RVAdventuresTV
      @RVAdventuresTV Před 3 měsíci

      The jack point I selected is on the axle tube where it is directly welded to the trailer I-beam which transfers the weight to the I-beam via the welded bracked. It works for me OK. Thanks for the insight, many may choose another jack point. I did consult the owners manual and info on Forest River's website but I didn't find any instructions for jacking the trailer.
