      This guy is OK, but he needs to revise his sales talking habits. Stop saying "We TRIED to make it this or that" or "It's SUPPOSED to be a comfortable space." If you sound like you're not positive yourself than the customer is going to take it as a negative - consciously or subconsciously.

    I bought a fully customized Scamp Deluxe with solid oak interior, full bathroom and shower, roof a/c, furnace, dual propane tanks, Intellipower converter, stove, microwave, custom sized bed/dinette, custom sized counters and curtains, extra set of carpets, custom TV cabinet instead of a full closet, rear surround full cabinets, custom clearance lights, custom reverse lights, old school round taillights and baby moons...for a THIRD of the cost of this! I even designed my own minidisc recorder/cd audio system on paper, sent them the components, and they created a custom enclosure and wired it up perfectly...for only a $50 upcharge! Literally anything I envisioned Scamp built by hand. Amazing old school craftsmen in their custom shop.

The highest price for the comfort package including soar panels, custom interior and outdoor shower, to me, is fair. Having rebuilt one of these beauties myself, these additions sure add up! We were going to buy a travel trailer for going to national parks every year. By the time you add the price of around $30,000, interest on the loan, maintenance, extra fuel towing it, and the $10 to $40 a night for a camping spot it was clear it is far cheaper to just rent a really nice cabin at $200 to $300 a night. We ended up buying a used pop up tent trailer for $4,000 for short weekend camping and just rent cabins for long trips to national parks.

      They have two models, armadillo and backpack. As an option armadillo can have a portable toilet that slides away under one of the seats/cabinets. Backpack has an option for a flush toilet. People buy these small campers with no toilets suprisingly often. Some models have nothing else than a place to sleep and are still popular amongst certain individuals.
      Some people really just like to have a place to sleep and cook and that is ok. You can choose to have those extra appliances or buy another trailer if you need one and the people that prefer this are not dumb.

  • @TLobSkydive
    @TLobSkydive Pƙed 6 lety +12

    More expensive than other fiberglass campers? Yes. Better than any other small campers currently being manufactured? Yes. We bought one of these in December and absolutely love it--we are super happy we invested the extra cash instead of settling with the lackluster options and construction of some other manufacturers. Super solid work and attention to detail--and the guys at Armadillo were amazing to work with to get exactly what we wanted. We didn't want a bathroom so that wasn't an issue for us.

  • @bigdave663
    @bigdave663 Pƙed 6 lety +4

    In the hotrod community this unit is perfect, Boler trailers are what most hotrodders look for but are hard to find these days and since you can have it custom built, it can be built to your satisfaction. in most cases this unit would have only one or two people. you could make a small spot for a portable toilet for your night time needs. I think since they have a hitch hole on the back, one could have a small platform that slides into the hitch so you are off the ground with a rod or something to support a shower curtain. the fact you can put two propane tanks on the front is great, nothing like running out of propane on your trip.
    reading comments here is mind blowing, apparently there are a lot of people who haven't looked at travel trailers since the 80's or have not looked at the actual cost of materials to build one for $2000. Remember this is an ultralight (1600-1800 lbs) not your typical 3000-4000 lbs trailer. a cheap cheap cheap queen mattress costs $600 and to get a frame from a trailer, you better find an old junk one you got for free, sand blast it then paint. oh wait that pretty much puts you at the $2000 mark unless you cheap out and dont blast it and buy some tremclad from Canadian Tire.
    at the end of the day I think the price is fair for what you get, when you compare the cost of gas you save in the long run, you spent less money on this unit then one that weighs 3000 to 4000 lbs

    One of the greatest things about camping is a little discomfort. Although I admire the craftsmanship, if I had 10 million dollars, I’d still prefer to camp on a not new semi-adapted van. I’d love it most of my things had been self installed and I carried my tools everywhere. It’d give me a sense of independence a resilience that I couldn’t get from buying something expensive and turn key. I remember a time when in an F250 with a Palomino camper my son (age 8) and I got stuck in the mud. Due to logistics I had to operate the winch from the ground and my son, at that young age, had to drive (only the wheel) standing up because if not he wouldn’t see a thing. It took us like 2 hours. One of our best memories in life.

I understand it is well built and custom and only making 4 a month you do not have to sell many and have to make a living when you do. I do not know if enough will fit into this niche although old ones that are not nearly as well built but like it still sale for more than they cost new in seventies. Someone still make Casita's now in Texas not sure what they cost but just noticed they have different models some with and some without bathrooms. My tiny little "155" does that, plus I can stand up in it (I'm only 5'8"). I'm guessing that your Amarillo would not fit in my garage. Many of us said good luck we tried to and by the time you start adding things up the price goes up really fast. He makes great trailers and sells them but his5k price point with way up really fast after building the first one.
      With that being said I totally understand these trailers in this video are the price they are because of the work put in and set up. Sadly if someone is selling a 10k trailer all your buying is something that is built on a Canadian tire bought trailer and made very cheaply. Like a shell with no quality involved at all.

    3 foot longer to include a wet cabin (Shower and Toilet) and this would be the perfect mini-trailer.

    By April 2020 you will be able to find them on the used market for $5k. Most of the people that bought them knew will want something bigger or decided camping wasn't for them.

    25k for an old U-Haul with 3.5k worth of upgrades? _That's a case of where two-fools met. Them for asking it, someone for paying it!_

      I know I can find a master cabinet maker and convert a cargo trailer into something really fancy. There's a couple near me That are willing to do that. Insane skills and I have all the respect for them.

      EVIL Co. For that price that service better be lip service by a hot guy!! I hardly doubt there is any service to be had with purchase..they are made one by one in his home...not a manufacturing plant...sure hand made would mean better quality but that quality here is grossly overpriced as 99% of the people commenting agree!!

      An old U-haul !! Wow, I never thought of that. And you can probably get one for really cheap and if you do the work yourself you might get something like this for $10k or less.

      Chris Reed ANYTHING handmade is gonna be 2x as much. If your vehicle was completely made from scratch by hand one by one how much do you think it’d be?
