Jokic is the MVP. You could argue that Shai has better teammates. Chet as a rookie is arguably better than Murray this season (his shooting and two way value makes him more valuable) while the other teammates even out.
Murray has also missed 17 games.
How can Shai be the MVP without ever making the playoffs in recent memory ? In 2022 Book won 64 games and averaged 27 points with a much lesser roster than Shai this year and wasn't considered top 3 in the MVP race. How does Shai skip all of these players (Booker, Tatum, Luka)?
Giannis came into the season with high expectations as he has a teammate who has been a top 10 player in the league for multiple seasons (although Dame has declined a bit). I think Dames presence takes some votes away from Giannis.

Even taking out the mental aspects, Jokic is a monster athlete in nearly all categories besides explosive ones (vertical jump, straight line running speed). He's strong (can't be bullied), has incredible hand-eye coordination and fine/medium/gross motor skills (translating into accuracy and touch on his shots and passes), has incredible balance and proprioception (which combined with his hand-eye coordination allows him to shoot effectively from weird angles and imperfect platforms), has incredible foot dexterity (footwork), has incredible body coordination to use his size without drawing fouls, in recent years has shown great stamina and durability (I think I saw he's played most games since he entered the league, and has been able to play heavy minutes and play well late in games), has fast hands for steals and deflections, great change-of-pace for his size.

Like you guys say the bucks arent a good enough roster and that Dame is fallen off and the bucks have gone through coaching changes(which the media somehow use’s against Giannis in an mvp race????) but the bucks are still contenders have the best starting lineup in the nba statistically. There is a statistical component to MVP which has 2 facets, simple counting stats and advanced metrics
Jokic will always lead advanced stats because of efficiency, Shai is a bucket getter who does a lot of other stuff well. I honestly have no issue with either guy winning.
But the dumb part of the award is that it is narrative based and people psych themselves into all kinds of silly votes. Right now they have that Embiid MVP in their head still and they look silly because of Embiids lack of playoff success. It isnt supposed to be linked but it is.
Will be interesting to see if voters feel as though Jokic is owed one in way because of the title and being the best player in the league or they reward Shai for leading his young team to a very similar record to the Nuggets.

As a Bucks fan, it's not necessarily just voter fatigue. Unfortunately for Giannis, a large part of this is what everyone won't really acknowledge: he may be a freaky, athletic powerhouse, but he's been mostly one-dimensional. James Harden wasn't that far off with his famous assessment, and everyone has kinda always known that to some degree. Giannis' brand of basketball became boring to watch over the course of time, especially after the Kawhi raptors completely shut him down back in 2018.
That said, he is starting to evolve this year, and no doubt it's because of (maybe even at the expense of) Dame's presence. Everything is up, his passing has gone from fine to phenomenal. His shooting stroke is rhythmically trending back towards his early years, before JKidd was involved. He has been a real pleasure to watch this year, almost like his meteoric rise around 2016-2017. Giannis knows his brand of Basketball has been overly physical most of his career; to extend said career, he'll have to expand his bag (i.e. produce a reliable jumper). I'm looking forward to his next several years!

I've been blabbing for years that growing up playing and watching soccer is why European players are so versatile in space (on offense particularly, but also on defense). They have spatial awareness because finding the open space is the differentiator in soccer. The Jokic/Giannis/Luka ability to manipulate the court map to their needs isn't new (I think of prime Tony Parker or soccer-lover Steve Nash), but the size and physicality of these 3 Europeans sets them apart. All three can score or assist at will, and sure Giannis' skillset matches his physical gifts, but if you watch them each play you see their anticipation and their awareness harkens to some shared euro-ness. Many of the public basketball courts in Europe have soccer nets below the hoops, and indeed kids more often are playing soccer than basketball. Those tiny, hard surface courts ingrain precision soccer passing and laser court awareness. Then when those kids try basketball, are able to use their hands and pick the ball up, well, what an advantage they have built in.

The case against Jokic last year was that he didn’t have a Finals appearance. Well he’s got a ring.
The case for Tatum is that he’s the best player on the best team. Jokic won his 2 MVPs after having the 5th and 10th best records in the NBA.
Jokic averaging 26 points on 58% with 9 assists, 12 rebounds every game. You also gotta include that he’s also providing a block and a steal every game as well. And he’s doing it on a team that essentially has 4 role players because none of them have won a single All-Anything.
Not to mention, Jokic just makes the game so easy for his teammates. None of the other top 5 candidates do that. Jokic wins his way, and that’s through the direct elevation of his team. What more do you need from the Most Valuable Player. The Nuggets don’t even break .500 without him.

Jokic has 3 more assists per game, which translates to slightly more points per game. His FG% is better, he averages more than twice as many rebounds, higher PER, higher BPM, more touches per game. Cause also remember what makes a player VALUABLE isn't just them by themselves, it's how they impact the game. Jokic shapes the game when he's not even on the floor because every team has to build their own game plan around him because any weak point he's able to exploit. He's not just a strong this or that, he's good almost everywhere.

Like coming into the league I was told his mid range is money and his 3 ball is streaky. His mid range has never once been a part of his game. All of his shots are contested. It feels like he can’t get any separation on his shots. When they go in it looks tuff, but when they don’t it’s frustrating. Tatum gets a lot of disrespect, but he truly is the best player on the best team. He has it a lot different than the other MVP candidates because he's playing in the best lineup in the league by far. That means there isn't as much pressure (or volume) on him as opposed to the other candidates. Tatum can put up 18/8/5 and play solid defense while others on his team take on more of a scoring role, and people will rag on Tatum for having a bad game. He said himself yesterday that he doesn't want to be a selfish player who makes it all about him, and I don't hate that answer, but he does have to say F it and just take over games as the best player on the team at times. That's what is separating him the most from the other guys.

Jokic, Shai and Giannis have solid claims, Luka is the dark horse, no one else is close. Another interesting question therefore is: who will be number five on the all nba first team? KD, Kawhi, LeBron, Tatum? Or can Ant show he belongs in the coming weeks/months without KAT?

Sometimes it comes down to the eye test. SGA has been amazing and easily is ahead of everyone but Luka and Jokic but Jokic is trying to go down as one of the best ever. What he's doing to teams every night offensively is nothing I've ever seen. People overuse unstoppable but there truly isn't a way to stop Jokic from dominating

If Ant keeps MN #1 seed with Kat down going into playoffs, he should get serious MVP consideration.

Sure, at around #10. At 26.4ppg, he's not going to be in the actual conversation. Same with Kawhi, unless you are almost averaging a triple double like Jokic, you aren't in the race unless you are over 30ppg.

As soon as I started the video, I would have bet a million dollars that the two guys on the right would argue for SGA to be the MVP over Jokic. You could tell they were sick of JJ talking about Jokic so much there at the end. The predictability of certain demographics is almost comical at this point.
Pattern recognition is the greatest life hack you can possess. Sharpen that skill, and don't be afraid to use it.

With all due respect to Jokic, Shai for me rn bcos nobody even thought that OKC will be a top 4 seed let alone be number 1. He's their engine and plays on both sides of the ball as well. Shai also leads the league in 30pt games that ppl have called it "death, taxes and Shai dropping 30"

If SGA and Jokic continue their dominance whoever finishes the higher seed should get MVP. I hope there is no BS in the votes, some of the time the MVP stands for “Media’s Valuable player”

I think what luka is doing right now is more impressive, personally. Yes, the nuggets are winning more, but they havent had an injury that lasted long for their 2nd best player like the mavs did. If kyrie didnt miss roughly 20 games this season, the mavs would def have more wins and i think luka would be a lock at this present time to win the mvp. Obviously, that is not the case.
