- There have been some really big price rises in the Just Essentials by Asda range this week, not just a few pence, but some really big jumps in price. I know this is going to affect a lot of people so just be aware when you are doing your shopping. This is one of the reasons we try and get some food in our prepping pantry, so we can get foods before the prices go increase. #costoflivingcrisis #prepping

Asda essentials prices have been rising, week on week. It’s an absolute disgrace, people are really struggling. I usually put £5 on one side each month for tins for the food bank but the amount I can purchase is getting less and less. We have to try and help each other but price hikes will prevent this.😮
The Issa Brothers here in Blackburn that own Asda are multi billionaires, it really boils my blood that they are causing more hardship for people who are under so much pressure and are struggling to feed their families, I think I will stop shopping there just on principle. Thanks for the heads up Tilly, much appreciated.
It's the same old story, 'the rich get richer'! It's so frustrating to see so many people struggling on a daily basis just to survive, even when they are working full time!! 😔
Isn't that just 'biting off your nose to spite your face'? These prices are still very good value in my opinion, compared to other retailers & especially other countries. Nobody appreciates price increases, but sometimes they are necessary in the current climate. ✌
@@Aidan1444 yes I suppose it is. Where do we start taking a stand against these rich getting richer? Our country is in a desperate mess because we accept all the excuses and just put up and shut up. If every Asda customer walked out and went elsewhere that would be so powerful 👍🏻
@@samanthal562 I went to Tesco today. Their value tinned soups are 57p, so it's possible Asda were already making a loss on them at the previous price & are now bringing the prices up to match other retailers. We need to maintain a positive mental attitude throughout everything. More is on the way, friend. ✌
@@Aidan1444 thanks for the info Aidan, much appreciated. Yes that does make sense, thank you and definitely positive mental attitude is vital, you’re so right friend.
Yes I’m waiting to get seeds in but in the north it’s far too early snow yesterday but today we are almost snowed in I’m so glad I decided to go do my weekly shop on Tuesday most of what I bought was for my daughter I’m buying, stocking in our little bedroom all the things I buy for her as her cottage is small I shall carry on spending our cash on food for her while ever I can if I can’t help my daughter who can I help. Love you and your videos Tilly, stay safe ,stay warm. 😍
You’d think with the profits supermarkets make they could, on their basic range use them as a loss leader
I completely agree with you, some loss leaders to help people out would be great to see!!
Time to say goodbye to asda then, if they are doing that trick. I will stay with aldi and lidl from now on. Thanks for showing this Tilly, as I had no idea that they had done this.
I think a lot of people will be feeling the same way... especially as the price rises are so big!
wow that shade of pink looks great on you
Hi the fresh ready meals was £1.45 now £1.89p
These are the prices right now.
Vegetable Soup: 57p (12p)
Chicken Soup: 45p (0p)
Tomato Soup: 57p (10p)
Mild Curry Sauce: 45p (10p)
Baked Beans And Sausages: 55p (5p)
Chunky Chicken In White Sauces: £1.60 (20p)
Custard: 53p (3p)
Pineapple Pieces: 71p (12p)
Chocolate: 43p (7p)
Muesli: £1.68 (28p)
What annoys me is that most of them are more than 10% increase which is apparently what inflation is at the minute, given this statement, I just think the price rises are done on a machine
I was going to tell you about these prices going up. There are a few others too. I really feel bad for the people who relied on these cheaper items. It’s a good few pounds extra on their shopping bills.
I'm in Ireland and things here are going up in big jumps. Example mozzarella in aldi used to be 79c last year I think, then over €1, €1.09,€1.19, €1.49 then jumped to €1.79 but I noticed its back to €1.49. I'm assuming people just weren't buying. Lots of things here are up 70-100% in a matter of months, it's unbelievable! I dread to think how some people are going to survive in a few months cause they're struggling as it is.
Thanks for all that information Tilly, really interesting 😊
You are so welcome Julie! ❤️
Keep an eye on changes to ingredients too👀 I was about to recommend the mulligatawny and the Scotch Broth from Tesco's own 60p range as they seem to have more "real food" in them than most soup (and taste yummy) BUT the website lists them as unavailable.. Perhaps the recipie was uneconomical...If & When they come back on sale I'll check the ingredient label before stocking up on any more....
Beware of new packaging that says "low fat" or "lower calories" it's going to be short hand for More Added Water .... Inflation, Shrinkflation and I don't know to call it "qualityflation" maybe...
yes its probably better to buy the next brands of soup above Just Essentials now and simply dilute them slightly with water to make them go further. The just essential veg soup was ok for 25p but would be a false economy now at 45p. people are going to have to start adding rice or pasta to bulk them out.
Thankyou very good shopping haul especially the price rising!
💜
There will be 50 per cent rise in energy bills,so i feel everything gonna go up 50 per cent, try buy now before the 1st of April,Thanks for the video.........Bless
Just noticed your presto, I've been canning like crazy lately, trying to get ahead of price rises and shortages. I've just discovered canning frozen peas and sweetcorn, they come out excellent and free space up in my freezer
We have to wait until the second week of May to put seedlings out in N.Central Kentucky,USA. We are expecting a big freeze for the next week.
I do love to make soup myself. (Love you back, Tilly! Nice to see you.)
Here in the west UK our last frost date is supposed to be Mid-april, last year it was mid May! Very difficult gardening with late frosts.
@@lat1419 I was told when I got here 29 years ago never to try to put plants out until "Mother's Day", which is the second Sunday in May.Our weather has been very much like a rollercoaster for the last two years. There were always two seasons here, "Too Hot " and "Too Cold", unlike other places where I have lived, but we had a really nice Autumn for the first time, however, the Sring and Summer last year were uncharacteristically very rainy, and the temps have been cold-warm, cool-hot, repeated throughout the year.
I just ordered a 40ft polycarbonate tunnel yesterday and it will be installed end of March, I just can't wait. I've got a lot of heirloom seeds to gather the seeds for next year too, putting in a huge garden this year
Oh that's fantastic, I would love to be able to get a polly tunnel! I hope you have lots of fun with your gardening! 😃
It's not good is it. Even if you think about people donating to food banks it's generally these types of items they donate. People just won't be able to afford it. For the greed of a few many will suffer. Just come across your channel. Great content. I've started my seeds inside for now. Once the snow and frost are away they can go out, but it means they are coming along nicely already. Thanks for the video 👍
Keep stocking up on rice and pasta and dried beans because many of us are going to need them soon, in order to be able to make any kind of a substantial meal. \prices are not going to stop rising.
If the war in Ukraine expands prices will go stratospheric.
It doesn't take a genius to see that something is wrong in the economy - prices have never risen so often or in such big leaps before.
Stock up while you can because more and more people will be going for the cheaper brands (causing more price rises still).
I have been stocking up on tinned potatoes and mash powder for months and plan to continue. A) because I can'r grow anything B) there is a predicted potato shortage on the way.
If you can grow your own do so, they are pretty easy to grow.
I would also use the spring summer months to prepare for winter power cuts next year.
I would also suggest people look into ''thermal cooking'' not only will it save you lots of money but I think it could be a vital method to cook by in the next few years.
All great advice, thanks for taking the time to let others know about these tips Peter!
I had 10 cans (the max allowed) of the chicken soup in my basket for today's Asda delivery.. needless to say I took them out when they almost doubled the price in one day.
Some of the items are still very good price but never in stock locally, like the washing up liquid and ALL the JE bread and rolls.
It's a huge increase isn't it Rachel! There are quite a few of the Just Essentials range that are never in stock at our Asda, I don't think they are just selling out of them, I think they just don't get them in stock anymore! 😔
Agreed about the cost of tinned food. I volunteer at a rural food aid charity here in Wales. We have a number of families who cannot afford to cook, even if given fresh veg, cant get out to shop, or simply have no local shop at all. Plus we have disabled pensioners who can't cut veg, or manage hot pans. It's just getting harder, and donations are down too.
It's not great nutrition either, all from cans, long term. We send a large block of cheese every other week and tinned meats in alternate weeks, to our regular recipients, eggs, tea or coffee, breakfast cereals and tins. Fresh fruit and veg to them too, apart from the "tin only" ones. We have a local charity to provide slow cookers to anyone who wants them, electric blankets, but it's such a struggle. People hate asking for help too, as country folk and hard working, self reliant, and used to hardship. But this cost of living crisis is breaking them.
Everyone, if you are able to put something aside, do it.
I'm so happy I've found you , you have been so helpful 💓
Thank you so much! 🥰❤️💕
The recent ASDA price rises have now made it impossible to live on less than £1 a day. The Essentials bread and Baked beans are now unavailable on line, the peanut butter and Sardines have nearly doubled in price. Even bread flour which was £0.59 last year is now £1.30
At least the Porridge Oats to make the morning Gruel hasn't change price.
The lunch time canned soup was always something tasty to look forward to.
I recently was able to get a Petromax Potato cooker so this should help with the cost of the Electricity to cook some baked potatoes. Getting the odd Rabbit to use with the Essentials Casserole Sauce with the air rifle is a constant worry as getting SWAT teamed is a constant risk.
Baked Potatoes can br cooked in a slow cooker too, batch cook a few together.
At the moment, asda butter is £1:99, the same price as Aldi. Butter can be frozen as well so may be worth getting a few before prices go up again
Yes butter freezes really well, I have a few in my freezer. 😃
£1.29 in farmfoods. Yes I've frozen lots of it. Tastes ok too.
@@learnerprepper1963 that's a great price. Wish I lived nearer to that store
Hello Tilly Ty for the videos 🇬🇧✝️♥️
👋 Hello, you are very welcome!! ❤️💕
I noticed Lidl's pea and ham soup, had gone up a few pence but also they have replaced some of the ham content with bits of diced carrot!!
Oh that's interesting and certainly something to watch out for... So not only are they putting the prices up, they are putting more of the fillers in!
Veg is good for you!
I am so sorry to see the ASDA prices go up there. Our Walmart great value brand in the US is ridiculous. How much money do these billionaires need?
I noticed Asda gone up a lot I did a shop got the cheapest things it was £25 pound more
Maybe they've whacked the prices up because so many CZcams prepper channels were pushing the essentials range and they were losing some of their profits? Closing the gap may make some decide to go for the more expensive alternatives.
Their tea bags up from 31p to 35p. eggs are up 29p to £1:99 for 15
They have stopped the lemonade at 26p
And have stopped the disinfectant at 33p
Oh that's interesting, thank for posting those prices Anne!
@@rootofavalon3841 you're welcome. I think the eggs are cheap at that price considering they are charging £1:70 for 6 medium eggs. Disgraceful!!
The tea bags are quite nice. I've only drank green tea for years and not having milk, black tea would leave a coating in my mouth ( felt like it) but this tea doesn't. But this tea is nice
Same in Canada some of our stores have really jumped the prices up
It's quite worrying isn't it, there just doesn't seem to be any end to it!!
Would love to see canning videos. I'm just learning how to can.
Oh fantastic Kimberley, I do think canning is the way to go with our pepping... and it is very addictive! 🥰 I will try and get some videos made for you. ❤️
Hello Tilly how are you and your husband hope your both well, I know the asda essentials food is going up and their soup has gone up but not as much as Heinz 4 tins for £6 wow , but I must admit I love Heinz . Sending love and prayers to you all 🙏 God bless.
There's always something going up in price every time I go into Asda. Beginning of last year, their own brand soup was 45p. It's no surprise these price rises.
You're quite right, I notice some price rises every time too, not just at Asda, but all the supermarkets. 😔
I used to buy heinz soup only would not ever buy it again tho watching videos aldi tomato bramwells soup and the chicken soup is delicious 54p I think I've not had the asda soup yet I did try lidl chicken soup and I thought it was disgusting I couldn't eat it so I like videos like yours because of knowing prices and recommendations Janet x
My goodness…vegetable soup in America cost 3 times as much as UK price. WOW!!
They are the same as any other retailer get people buying something cheap then hike the price and hope they don’t notice. Heather
I mostly shop in aldi and a tube of crisps i got last month were 79p they are now £1.39 everything else has risen by 30-40p per item it's a madness
It seems to be that the days of a couple of pence price rises are gone, now they just hike them straight up!
@@rootofavalon3841 my shopping budget including preps was between 60 and 70 a week for my family and pets it's now 100 minimum without extras
At the moment I get 10% off at Asda with a blue light card which is for healthcare and armed forces. Just found out today they're stopping it at the end of this month 😔
Oh no, that's such a shame because that was a really good saving! 😔❤️
My sweetener the only one I can stomach as I'm diabetic has gone up a pound in a week
Tesco value ranges have also gone up! 😔
I think they knew exactly what they were doing. Suck people in with the cheaper prices then hope they don't notice when it goes up
hello ma'am, hope you are doing well 😊
you absolutely right it's always the weakest of our society that are having to suffer....
we try to help as much as we can in our area, but we are a big family so we too feel the 'bite 'of this harsh price increase 🤦♀️
we have special needs children, and they need treatment and one of them might need a specific diet.🤷♀️
oh well, I'm sure someone has it worse then me... Sorry for rambling
please take care, 🙏 best wishes for your family
Hello, I know where you're coming from, because we also have members of our family with specific needs, including dietary, and it's not always easy! I hope you have a great weekend, take care!
Blimey, that is sneaky of them, didn't keep the bargains up for long did they. 🙁
I was going to Asda this week, won't bother now.
Looking forwards to seeing how your outdoors Pantries coming on.🌱
Weather's still grim down South here, not putting any seedlings out yet either.
TFS Tilly, take care & keep really busy everyone. ♥️🙂🐶
Yea, I would like to know what they have to say about putting the prices up so much!
I'll be sowing some seeds in my conservatory in a couple of weeks, so hopefully by the time the frosts finish they'll be able to go outside. 😃❤️💕
@@rootofavalon3841 Pretty sure they'll think of a good excuse why the rise has happened.
Yes, seems like the Temperatures going backwards. I won't put anything out till it warms up for sure.
Take care Tilly. 🌱❤🙂🐶
Hi, Tilly! I still wish we had ASDA here in the States. The cheapest soups here is still about twice the price here. I go shopping at least weekly and the prices, except for a few sales, go up every week. I know that you will see more and more, which is why I point it out. The money simply is no longer here for most of us here to shop as we did.
(THrew it at the pies and missed!)
It really is very worrying as how this is all going to end, so many people are just not going to be able to feed their families all around the world!
@@rootofavalon3841 Yes,Tilly, I am very worried. I can't imagine what is going to happen in Africa if we are afraid in America and G.B.
I bet most of the cheap prices were introductory offers and they were making a loss on every product in the range.
That is quite possible!
Hi Tilly. I would love if you did a sort of weekly price tracker video series where you go onto Aldi’s website(because you shop at Lidl
and Lidl
don’t have a website and Aldi is the same price as Lidl on most things) Or Asda if you wanted(you could alternate) and randomly select 10 items and write down the price. Then a week later you check the items again to see if they’ve changed. Then the next week you select another random 10 items and do the same and so on. Also, although they’re not longlife things, I suggest you try Lidl’s ‘Chef Select 4 Pork Pies’ - (£1.05 as of typing this) they’re delicious and they don’t throw the meat in lol 😂. Also their ‘Simply 8 Sausage Rolls’ - (95p as of typing this) are great too. Sorry for war and peace lol. Hope you’re well and hope you like my video idea.
Hi Aaron, well that's something to think about for the videos! 😃
I'll have to test the pork pies and sausage rolls out, they sound fab. 😃
I got a good place for you to o go to Rogers wholesale’s best before warehouse
Hello from Yorkshire... what canner do you have??? I've a water ban canner I'm just struggling for a good UK pressure canner.. any help appreciated :-)
I have a 23 quart Presto pressure canner. The same one you see behind Tilly in this video. Well worth the investment.
The stewed steak is still the same. They’ve been charging £1.85 online for a while.
It's pretty good too!
@@rootofavalon3841 it’s one of the nicer ones. I make steak baked with it for my family and they love it.
Hmm, some huge price increases there, Tilly. Can I ask about your pressure canner? The make and where you got it from, please? I've been looking forever at one on Amazon and I'm still faffing about umming and aahing, wondering should I, or shouldn't I?🤔🥴
The canner is a Presto 23 Quart, I bought mine on Ebay and it came from America... The price and delivery included any import fees. I then bought the 3 part weight (the jiggler) on Amazon, which also came from America... the jiggler is needed because we can't get the gauge calibrated in the UK. I thought about it for a long time too, but I'm so pleased I bought mine, it is an investment, but I think it's well worth it. It will really pay for itself when we start growing our own produce too. 😃
@@rootofavalon3841 Thanks Tilly. Think I'll pop over to Ebay and take a look.
I bought my Pesto from Love Jars, found the service to be great and came fairly quickly. Brilliant investment would do it again certainly.
It's so sad especially as it is having a knock on affect on charities too.
Yes absolutely Kerry, the charities will suffer for sure! 😔
i just wish some people would wake up to whats happeing and stop calling the rest of us scaremongerers,we prepared because of this and yet we are greedy hoarders!!’😡
The essentials chilled meals used to be 1.45 now they are 1.90 no longer an essential price they match asda's own frozen range of ready meal, I now refuse to buy them to line the pockets of the greedy owners.
They are coming in line with everywhere else now, so there is not much benefit to going to Asda over any of the other shops... such a shame, but it was good while it lasted.
These shops are getting too greedy ...People should boycott them...refuse to shop there.....😮
Keep putting the prices up so we can no longer afford to eat, what then?
I really don't know Barbara, It's just all such a worry isn't it! Just keep prepping and trying to put as much away as possible whenever we can. ❤️
They will offer us zeee bugs, cheap and cheerful bugs!
Sadly, I would be SO grateful for the prices you are all charged as in SA the pricing of food is exorbitant. We are just extremely lucky to eat our own fruit and veg and not have to rely on imports. Don't be too down on the cost, you have it quite easy there. As for helping each other... take your stockpile and donate it ALL to the food banks... they are suffering
