Supermarkets don’t make food - often it’s a brand product in different packaging. It’s cheap enough to buy once and if you like it then that’s a bonus. I think you tube channels that are promoting asda essentials are actually making it trendy

I'm 43 years old and I watched my grandmother making stuff from scraps and her generation. If you have a sack of potatoes and bread and the other veg and bit of meat you can eat very cheaply. Growing home grown runner beans and a few veg like cabbage and having mince is a beautiful meal, yes it's time consuming and you prepare the night before but you can live really cheap. Great video though my dad who's 72 uses marrowfat peas soak them and uses bicarbonate of soda and his mushy peas are amazing all the old secret s

I think it is worth remembering that whilst some people have to buy these types of
of food items because it is very hard at the moment for lots of families to feed their
kiddies and that they have not got the choice of getting the brands that some of us
prefer and I really cannot understand the embarrassment but that may be a
generation thing I suppose, I just think that we are the lucky ones because we can
even on a budget can purchase better quality items sometimes but I really admire
your little family for at least you have tried to see what budget food is like and also
that changes you will make will save money for you, very well done guy,s and
    😊 thank you so much.

Grew up on the no frills range, used to buy a lot of the smart price stuff can still gets bits of it here and there as they cross over. I like how much fresh stuff there is in the just essentials range. The fresh mince in the just essentials isn't as nice as the frozen one they do it tends to be chewy. The beef and onion in the frozen one goes a bit mushy but tastes so much better.

When I found out the amount of packaged, canned & bottled foods, sauces & oils that are all made in the same factory with different labels & prices slapped on I was astonished. Sometimes with yogurt as an example the first part of the mix may go into the more expensive brand containers & then the last of the batch goes into a less expensive brand package because there may not be as much fruit, it's ridiculous. There can be up to a $12 difference in olive oil because one goes through a 2nd cold press process which costs less than $1 per bottle, there can be 3-4 different olive oil brands that come from the same manufacturer some the only difference is a pretty label that costs a few pennies per bottle & you end up paying $4-$5 more.

I brought my fav Costco popcorn to a work party & brought it a big covered bowl & people were asking me if I bought theater popcorn, when I told them it was a inexpensive Costco popcorn they were floored. My dad is a freak about cereal & will only buy frosted flakes name brand, my step mom put the store brand bag in the box & we all cracked up laughing when he said "so much better than the store brand crap you bought me last time" he was a little angry having to admit it was all psychological.

Even in a snobby whitewashed town growing up people didn't make fun of anyone for non name brand food, their clothes absolutely but not food so I can't truly understand feeling shame in saving money to feed your family. @@moo2601 I use there pull ups atm as my little girl wiggles round too much for nappies now. No soon as the nappies off she's running round so I find the pull ups a lot easier as she can stand to be changed 🤣

I really don’t like this trend of buying this new essentials range just to prove a point. The people that really do need cheaper products that are on the bone’s of they’re ass are not able to find many of the products. Then we get people complaining they can’t buy the products in bulk. They most likely don’t have they’re own transport and have to carry they’re shopping home. Not that they can afford to buy much at once anyway.
