It's so strange because different parts of the US are almost too different to compare because it's so big. So a sweeping statement like 'greatest country in the world' is meaningless because your quality of life massively varies depending on which part of the US you are from and whether or not you were born into money. In many other countries, there isn't such an inequality of wealth/life because they are smaller. Japan springs to mind, they don't even have a class system, basically everyone is middle class

Ok guys, you specifically asked us what we think about guns! Ok, here goes....
"A gun is just a tool!" - I agree, but it is a tool with only one purpose in life...to kill! A hammer hits nails, a screwdriver turns screws, a gun kills. Nothing more.
"People need to be trained in their use" - Cool, let's make everyone more efficient at killing. The death rate won't go down after that! (That's sarcasm by the way. Lol)
" If you want to hurt, you'll find a way" - Sure but not with such efficiency and lethality. Stabbing someone is much more up close and personal and way less likely to be involved in mass killings. A gun is lethal from, what, 100's of yards away and will penetrate buildings etc, putting EVERYONE at risk.
"This is the way" - Nah, that was the Madalorian, sorry.
The only way to reduce the death rate is to severely restrict the acquisition and ownership of weapons. If it takes 3 months of investigation to get a gun, what's the problem? If you qualify, you will still get it, if not then forget it. Then keep it securely locked away. If you breach the conditions you lose your licence and your weapon. Simple as.
I still enjoy your vids though guys. Keep it up, and stay safe.

For instance, if I want to shoot someone in the UK, (to start with I wouldn't know where to even start) I'd have to go through so many steps, and fear, and distrust of criminals selling illegal guns. And fear of the police finding out I had a gun. There are so many steps to deter or otherwise make me realise my intended actions.

"Can you imagine, 4 weeks of vacation"
Swedish workers got 2 weeks vacation in 1938, in 1951 they got 3 weeks, and in 1963 they got 4 weeks, since 1978 everyone gets 5 weeks vacation, and some gets even 6 weeks.
"Imagine how much you could get done and how little guilt you would have if your son got sick".
If your kid get sick? What does that have to do with vacation? Taking care of a sick child is hardly a vacation. If your kid gets sick you use your "VAB-days" ("Vård av barn" which means "Care for kids"), not your vacation days! Parents get to share 120 VAB-days per year. If you're on vacation, and you get sick, you call in sick, so you won't waste your vacation days on that, so you get your vacation later. Same thing if your kid gets sick during your vacation, then you change it to VAB, and get your vacation days later on.

I'm from a European country, and I don't understand why you Americans are still crazy about guns?
It endangers your children whether they are victims or perpetrators...a child makes and will make mistakes, and then if a firearm is available, a child's mistake can be fatal, with many families destroyed .
And all that for the right to firearms...isn't your children's lives more important?
Your children have to go through metal detectors, here in Europe children go through a colorful gate, which is then welcomed by their teachers.
Your kids are allowed to pass a cop first.
    This is just incomprehensible.
And looking at firearms as a tool, I personally think it's a weird vision... tell me a tool of the common man... who can mow down 60 children in less than 10 minutes?

    • @Alicechan3
      @Alicechan3 Před rokem +27

I agree with you fully- a gun is a weapon moreso than a "tool." It's purpose is to maim and kill, it doesn't even really "protect" as at the end of the day someone will end up hurt, whether that be the victim or the perpetrator.
That said, "a tool of the common man capable of mowing down 60 children in 10 minutes" could probably be any old SUV or bigger car honestly. Which is another problem America has- how needlessly huge their everyday cars are.

I read a statistic a while ago that, simply by having a gun in the house, you raised the probability of yourself and others who live there to get shot by a factor of 11. This includes suicide, accidents, sudden attacks of "GOD TOLD ME TO KILL THEM!!!" and someone else breaking in and shooting you with it. So - nope - a gun in the house does NOT protect your family.
Even if you completely ignore that fact - all that "protecting myself or my family" stuff never works. If it did there should be significant numbers of "good guys with guns saving the day". And way, WAY less gun deaths.
And the solution to this WOULD be easy - you guys just don't want to. Because "murrica! Muh freedumb!".
The rest of the world has places where everybody carries a gun too. We call them "warzones". Outside of those in a civilized society everybody carrying a "tool" that is made to hurt or kill others (and *nothing* else) is grotesque.

The "if someone wants to hurt people he finds a way" is bs as well as its a pretty f*in big difference if someone easily gets his hands on an automatic rifle and mows down his classmates or if someone can‘t get his hands on anything comparable and has to use a knife or whatever a knife is dangerous but it is not in any way a comparable danger to any gun thats why most uk cops only run around with a baton or why the Last "shootings" (Bit fucked up that an assault on a school in the us is immediately tied to gun usuage dont you think?) in german schools were commited with knives and a crossbow and an alarm pistol and the death tolls were waaaay lower then any us shooting in some cases even nobody was killed but "only" hurt. Between 2013 and 2022 there were Zero Shootings in german educational facilities (in 2022 we had three since January which is enormously weird and the reasons for the sudden increase are being invesigated but still there were "only" 2 deaths) and still the us holds onto its Guns for dear life even after maddening events like the uvalde shooting where 21 people died 19 of them Kids its insane!

Any business that can't pay a living wage to its staff is not a viable business. Tipping to make up wages is a crazy system. Put the prices on the food, or whatever, up front so the staff are guaranteed a living wage. That way, customers won't be rushed out of restaurants because the staff want to quickly get another set of customers in to get their next set of tips. In Europe, we sometimes spend hours enjoying a meal and a chat in restaurants and won't get hassled to move on (within reason).

I'm not against people getting rich but businesses like McDonalds, Walmart and Starbuck should not be allowed to make billions a year and at the same time have staff that can barely make ends meet those businesses are the ultimate demonstration that trickle down economics doesn't work, because if they did the employees of all the major retailers would be among the best paid people.

Correct me if I’m wrong but aside from hunting, most Americans keep a gun for protection against a gang of nutcases breaking into your home to do you & your family harm. Either you keep your gun handy by your bed & risk one of your kids (or friends) playing with it, or you keep it locked away somewhere - which makes it pretty useless against a home invasion.

I understand how you feel with guns being a hunting tool and people in your home town not having malice. However, if someone from your hometown developed mental health issues and/or snapped one day they have access to an extremely deadly weapon. I’m from the UK and if someone snapped one day they simply wouldn’t have access to and could not easily at all gain access to a weapon like that. The issue with mental health is that it is often silent and people can easily hide their struggling.
Also, correct me if I’m wrong, hunters using guns as a tool do not need semi automatic/automatic assault guns. There are obviously way too many guns in the USA and many people unwilling to give up their guns, that banning them would be near impossible, but surely leaving the military style guns to the military would help with mass shootings and the overall safety of citizens. If someone had to reload often and couldn’t shoot 10 bullets a second, it would greatly reduce casualties. But that’s just my opinion as a British person, I understand that there might be more nuance to this issue.

They are there to assess your health and to help your medical conditions, and if you need a certain medicine they will prescribe it. The general public don't know enough about these pills to make an informed decision, or if it will even help at all. The GP does know that.

If the government are the only people in charge of buying in prescription medicine not only does it increase the quality it also lowers the cost cause if the Pharma companies only really have one customer and that customer is the government then they need to put a check on their prices otherwise the government will just go with another company.

I live rurally in the UK, almost everyone I know has handled a gun at some point for various reasons. I agree that they are tools and need proper knowledge and skill to handle correctly. In the UK, the laws are such that only people with that mindset should have access to guns. That's not to say that doesn't fail at times, like any law. The key point for me in UK gun law is you are required to keep your gun in a locked gun safe when you, the licensed owner, are not using it. This is checked by police on random home visits. To my knowledge, the US doesn't have a similar requirement and I think it could go a long way to reducing 'random teen picks up his dad's gun and shoots up a school'. Also I found it interesting that you mention vehicles. There are required proficiency tests before licensing for all vehicles, as we recognise that used improperly they pose a risk to the general public and could cause a mass casualty event. Surely that should be the same mindset for guns, given they are just as if not more dangerous than cars.

Aside from the whole 'checks' thing, with useful gun laws it's really important to properly store and secure whatever gun you have. Most people outside the U.S. would obviously find it ridiculous that anyone would have any good reason to own a semi-auto or more than 1 gun, even as a farmer or for legitimate hunting purposes but even if you own 10, that's fine as long as they are properly secured (and you're likely to get in trouble if they're not) unloaded and with amunition properly stored and secured separately. I may be wrong but the amount of nutters that manage to get hold of semi-automatic weapons and shoot up schools/cinemas etc. may have more to do with those weapons being too easily accessible in the home, rather than checks on the legal owners of those guns being the problem. Also isn't there a problem in the U.S. of children finding guns in their own homes and shooting themselves or playmates? It seems to be more the laisez fair cultural attitude to gun safety in general that's the real problem. It just shouldn't be easy for a disgruntled teen to nick his dad's/uncle's/mate's gun and kill dozens of people with it in a few minutes.

The gun thing is weird. I live in rural Scotland, it's not unusual for farmers to have shotguns, and there is plenty of sports shooting for game. If there was the prospect of coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, wolves or bears wandering through my back yard, I'd seriously consider a gun too. Rural life, hunting or wildlife protection, pest removal, I have no problem at all with gun ownership. I am not a "ban all guns" kinda guy.
Urban firearms are a different matter, especially hand guns. It's just not working, the price is too high. Whether it's a school or other mass shooting, crime related, or police, it's just too much death to be healthy for society. I've heard all the BS arguments, frankly Jim Jeffries response is the best.
As for the 2nd amendment, time to scrap it. The Bloods and the Crips are not well regulated militia, and if they tried to stand up against the government, just remember Waco. It doesn't end well.

I respect you both discussing gun laws on your channel as I know how contentious it is a subject both in the US and Europe. Regardless of which way you lean in the argument, there is a lot to say for intent behind owning or using a weapon. I grew up on army barracks where SA80s were a common sight, and you developed a healthy respect for the weapon knowing you don’t touch it till you know how to use it. In my nursing career in the UK I have seen horrific injuries and deaths from the use of knives, including machetes. Just because they cannot access guns does not mean violent crime does not exist. Outright banning anything never works. Strict procedures and regulations have worked for the UK since the Dunblane Massacre, however the UK is very different to the US both in size and way of life therefore it does not easily translate across the pond.

Agree with most things discussed here, as an European, but a few things I don't get about the US weren't included; like religion being so utterly prevalent - as far as I know, it's customary for nearly everyone to go to church every Sunday?!? Over here, no one under 80 does that, and even only about 1% of those (just an educated guess). People generally only go to church for special events like weddings (if people insist on having them in a church, which I personally don't get either, being an antitheistic Pagan, but that's not the point here). Another thing is marriage being so very popular (everyone seems to get married really young & expected to stay that way, and with "really young" I mean under 30), while it's not like that where I live, at least. BTW, IMO there are *way* too many commercials here too, these days!! Like a commercial break about every 10 minutes, uhh... Hate them. Council deals with any communal spaces and removing rubbish/trash - they mow the grass not belonging to anyone… I assume this is the same?
I agree with the vast majority of obviously non-Americans in the comments about guns
It seems absolutely insane to me that you can get them so easily
    They are not a tool
A screwdriver is a tool, to fix furniture
A hammer is a tool, to put nails into a wall
A gun has one purpose. It is a ‘tool’ to kill, there is no other purpose
Even if you wanted to say what about knife crime in the uk, a knife obviously has a main use of preparing and cutting food up and you have to be a lot closer to someone to harm them with it
There is no other purpose to a gun - I await someone telling me I’m wrong here but I know I’m not. Even when farmers own them here it’s to shoot at animals threatening their livestock or the likes of molehills - or people are in shooting clubs
There is no reason for any person to own a sub/fully automatic weapon except if they in their minds think, I might kill with this someday
    That’s how I see it
    I find it so odd.

Saarland is the Alabama of Germany xD
The gun thing can be summed up perfectly with Brandon Herraras words: Guns are awesome, Idiots are not. (If you like them, that is)
I personally show some interest in guns, and I am interested in the design, the craftsmenship and the technical functions of them.
Here's the huge BUT: Nobody truely needs one. I kinda want a Saiga-12 shotgun for some nice range shooting, but I already know it will be a very expensive purchase. I would also need to move somewhere into the forest so there are no neighbours complaining about the loud noises every time I would fire a round.
Sadly, most of the time they are purchased in the US, they land in the hand of a person that has some very awful plans with them.
Not too long ago a shooter opened fire in a shopping mall in the US with a AR-15-based weapon.
Luckily he was shot by another shopper, who had his Glock concealed beneith his clothing and was a better shot. That day only a few people were hurt.
As the shopping mall was a no-gun-zone, Anti-Gun-factions instantly started hating on the Glock-wielder because he had carried a gun, even if he "saved" the day.

As a UK citizen (that now lives in Belgium) I can tell you, when I was smaller I was playing football (The UK type) in the garden with my brothers and after a really neat header, I broke the living room window. My dad got really upset with me and then stopped my pocket money until it covered the new window. When the window got replaced, he said to me "Son, if you play football in the garden in front of the house, at some point you WILL break a window, it's not a case of IF, it's a case of WHEN". After that, we never played football in the front garden. This true story is what I think of America and it's gun culture.
So my American friends, please stop playing football in your front gardens because at some point a window will get broke and I say this on the 7th of June 2023 when I have just read about another shooting incident where 2 people have been killed in Richmond, Virginia at a graduation of all things.
I have nothing against real people (with extreme background checks) owning rifles for sport and hunting (you could say that an archer with a top class compound bow also has a weapon that could kill, but this never happens), but it should end there, no legally owned hadguns or pistols, no semi automatic machine guns, these are meant for 1 purpose only and with the almost banality and frequence of mass shootings in the US, I don't think I have to prove this point further.
P.S. To Any American that has lost someone to gun violence, I am really sorry for your loss.

It does not take much extra to be technically obese; only an extra 30-35lbs over your "ideal"
    average weight.
    Then to the sugar thing.
Just go google up the recommended daily intake/allowance. UK: 30g. US: 36g.
That single starbucks 'coffee' has over two full days sugar in one single cup.
    Leading causes of obesity?
Portion size, sugar, and lack of exercise.

"If your son got sick" WELL in Germany you don´t need to take your vacation days for that as you have the right to 30 days of child sick leave per year. During that time you get 90% of your normal salary.
