The must requested video! Here is the tint i left out of my comparison video! 50% Window Tint! We had a family friend want his windows tinted and he wanted legal tint on his front 2 windows which in ohio is 50%! IMO 50% tint is almost useless!! Its very light and ALMOST has no effect. Dont get me wrong there is a difference between 50% and no tint but definitely has no vision blocking attributes at all.

50% is a great film and has a lot of benefits, most block out 99% harmful UV rays and about 20%-30% heat reduction. No it's not a privacy film like 20% and lower but it has a place in the tinting world. So no it's not useless!

All about what you're after. Privacy vs Protection. Some of the new 50% ceramics have some pretty impressive, UV, IR, TSER numbers - and night visibility is better than with the darker tints. I really don't care who sees me. And I don't want LAPD getting jumpy due to blacked out windows. A friend just did his new Sportwagen in 70%, (CA Legal limit for fronts) and it looks sharp with that off-white silver paint. That car stays surprisingly cool in 95-100º heat. To each his own - you Ohio guys are O.G. Thanks for the video.

I would not consider tinting more than 50% on the side windows (front and back) and the rear window.
You need to look through the side windows to look through the side mirrors so tint will effect your rear view, not just the curb.
And you also need to look through the rear view mirror through the rear window.
If you drive in big cities at night, like myself in Bangkok with scooters on allsides overtaking and undertaking and pulling out, you need good vision.
You say that you cannot see the point in puting film/tint on windows of only 50% however:
Any tint film will prevent UV A and B.
UV B gives you sun burn
UV A gives you skin cancer

With my light interior, the 15% came out perfect. I knew even with the 35% front, I wouldn’t be happy then I am now so I took the risk. You can still see through and seeing out is perfect for me as well day and night. Also I believe if you don’t drive like a idiot, you will be fine with the cops. Little effect??? The only thing you wont gain is privacy and superior glare reduction however, 50% "tint" as you call it will still keep out 99% UV rays and if you are using a quality film it should reject somewhere around 40% heat. 50% "tint" should reduce the glare by half. If the glass should break another great feature of having any window film is that it will keep the glass somewhat together should it break or become shattered. Any film is better than no film...SMH

So I kept it legal cuz I'm from Cleveland Ohio. But the 50% like you're saying still blocks out UV rays and I got a high performance quality film which blocks out at least 50% of the heat. Plus I drive more at night than the daytime and trying to see out of something as dark is 5% out your rear-view mirror is almost impossible. @Siberius- Před 11 měsíci +2

    I'm thinking 50% or maybe 40% as a middle-ground is possible.
Some people don't like how dark even 35% is at night time. During the day 35% noticeably changes the colour of stuff out side to look less vivid and bright and nice... plus I'll be wearing sunglasses, so I don't want a darker tint making things too dark with sunglasses, since currently with no tint, sunglasses can sometimes already make things a bit too dark for my liking during certain weather.
I also like that when looking out, there isn't a very clear discrepancy between the windshield and the side windows. I like the consistency.
Then it's just more subtle, which is especially nice on a shitty car one doesn't care about lol. The darker tints are almost like a statement, like it's very obvious that ya got your car windows tinted like a cool fella with what they feel is a cool car, instead of it just being like, maybe darker factory windows. This isn't a very important point, I don't think this should stop anyone from doing what they wanna do.
50% is still providing some privacy over clear (on camera). Can't seem to see facial features, you can see the person, but not the details. I don't care (or want) to be completely concealed in the darkness like it's an FBI vehicle, I just don't want people to be able to like, make direct eye-contact with me lol.
Then other than that, the main reason I want tint, is so as I can have a UV film on the windows to block over 99% of UVA. Even if it had zero tint, I'd still get the UV film.

I do like privacy but I have blue eyes and any sharp light hurts my eyes
This is why I thought 50% is the way to go

Honestly 50% isn’t completely useless, but it would be a waste of money. My previous car has 22% back half and 50% front 2. Not the best. Plus it had almost a white interior so on them sunny days, it appears almost as if there was no tint. The perks is visibility is pretty good day n night. On my current car, I’m running 5% back half, 15% front, 45% shield, and it’s been serving my privacy as well as practicality since it’s drivable at night (I’m kinda just used to it) while providing privacy day and night. I chose ceramic so it would reject heat for the entire black interior. Honestly 2 popular tint combos is 15s all around OR 35% front half, 5% back half. These 2 combos are nice. IMO the setup I’m running is nice and I’m rlly happy with it. It’s basically providing a blacked out look while still maintaining drivable visibility on the front half at night. The dark tints helps at night mostly when ppl high beam from the back. 5% does a fantastic job for that and 15% does a good job.

Anyone who’s irresponsible enough to get dark enough tint knowing they have bad sight or are too irresponsible to simply roll down their windows at night in crowded places are bound to be dangerous in general. You know there are people with illegal tint like myself who can actually see at night and have enough common sense to roll my windows down if I can’t see in low lit areas or when I’m parking and reversing right? Lol the only thing you need to worry about with illegal tint is your windows at night and to fix that you just roll them down. It general really is not hard at all to see at night though.

I think that Walmart tint was like 20% or something, probably a little lighter then that since you can see through it in sunny days no problem from 50ft away or so. When they stop you for your tint, its usually cloudy days. Im thinking of hitting 40% next tint, a shade darker then the legal 50% cause i barely drive with window up in sunny and hot days anyway. its the cold and dark days in the winter and rainy days that matters usually.*

I've 15% on my black 2016 Charger R/T and a strip across the top of the windshield. It looks great and is against Florida law. I've been stopped once in this car and it wasn't because of window tint. I have a problem with my right foot and it often gets very heavy. That is bad for a 65 year old. The good thing about the stop was they did not even mention the tent. I did roll the front windows down but they never questioned anything. Anyway GREAT video, great job and thanks for the information. What is the standard tint on a lamintaed windscreen on a new car from the manufacturer?
I am interested in tinting the windows against UV A and B, not so concerened about the look.
Is it true that a laminated windscreen prevents UV A and B ?
Thank you for this video showing the effect of a 50% Tint because most people show much darker tints generally.

Here where I live the limit is 35%, and that's the reading of the cop's machine, not the number of the tint you put on your car. So since glass already has some opacity on it a 35% tint will read about 26-28% on the machine (at least on all the cars I've had with that tint), a 40%tint will read about 31-33%, still illegal and 50% tint will stay above 40%. That's why after being pulled many times and given many tickets I gave up on going too low on the tint number.

Mehhh 50% on the front two is great. I only say this because that's how I'm blending in my 50% windshield tint lol

50% makes luxury cars looks nice especially when you have nice interior with dark brown leather so it's still can be seen by people. I believe 35 or darker makes the car look cheap
