Fixes a flaw in 2011-2014 Mustang Rear Axle factory axle vent that allows rear axle gear oil to overflow from vent cap onto the axle. It will eventually drain your rear axle of fluid, so this is a vital fix!
This video will show you how to upgraded a Ford Mustang leaking rear axle vent valve.

Wow!! Am I lucky to have come across this video! My vent tube is leaking a lot and the mechanic at my service station said it was normal to leak a little, but my axel is covered in rear end fluid. This fix is great!! Thank you for the post!
Really appreciate you making this video. My Vic has the same screw in vent and its been leaking. Great to see how its done.
Glad if helped!
Just did this one my son's 2014 V6 Mustang. Thanks for the video. The installation was easy. The upper part of the tube clipped onto the flange of the diff cover very securely. ( don't have the cover you do ). I'll keep an eye on future leaks....thanks 😉
Awesome! Thanks for the help! My factor valve has made an ABSOLUTE MESS under my car. I was worried I had bigger problems until I found exactly where it was coming from.
Glad it helped!
I know this video is pretty old, but I'm commenting anyway. These cars need a catch can for the diff vent. My car has never seen a track. It's street-driven only, though I do "drive with purpose". The speed limit on the freeway here is 70, 75, and 80 mph, so my car sees sustained speeds at 80 mph. Perhaps that's why it continued to burp oil after this fix. I have the stock 3.31 limited-slip gearset.
I purchased my 2014 GT brand new in August 2014. It only has 40,000 miles on it now, so I'm not under it much. It leaked a puddle in my garage from this vent almost since day 1. I took it to the stealer under warranty, where they fitted this kit. Still making a puddle in my garage. Took it back and they gave me some runaround about changing the diff fluid to make sure it was the right stuff. No more puddle. Yay!
Fast forward to last year when I was running the vacuum line for a boost-a-pump from the trunk to the intake port on my new Whipple blower manifold 🙂. The gas tank and plastic skid plate were completely coated in gear oil. What a mess! Turns out on the second dealer repair, they relocated the vent end of the hose from the top of the diff to the gas tank strap way up against the floor pan. It wasn't leaving a puddle in my garage because it was coating my gas tank.
I'm now in the process of installing the finned Ford GT500 diff cover and a JLT expansion tank. I measured the oil I drained when I pulled the cover, and it was right at 2 quarts, so they either overfilled my diff or it only takes a .2 quarts to totally encase my gas tank in gear oil and dirt. I'm old and tired and the car isn't a daily driver, so I'm not done yet. I'll post an update after I get the thing put back together and some miles on it.
I have the Ford Performance Finned Differential cover on my Mustang but no expansion tank. It also has a drain plug which is nice!
Holy fuck!!! Thank you!!! I noticed plug leaking last night when changing my rear brakes. My car has been making this noise like the rear diff is bad for a few months. Had a mechanic change my rear diff oil and said “it looks fine.....the gears look fine...” this was last month. I don’t know how he didn’t notice this whole hose missing. Smh. I hope my rear diff isn’t destroyed. Waiting on the part in a few days.
A little late but, to be fair, they don’t come with this hose from factory. this hose is the fix for the leaking OEM part that ford gave us.
This is a really great video! I have a question though. I also have a Ford performance rear diff cover and have nowhere to clip the vent tube. I saw you clipped it to the upper control arm nut. Did it stay when you went over bumps? I zipped tied mine to the support brace but I’m not sure if the exhaust is too close to the hose?
Great video! It’s been over a year now can you give a update how it’s holding up?
Would this be the same part for a Fox 8.8? Mines leaking too. It’s in the right side axle
hey mike, thank you so much for your video. My 2008 mustang gt with 97,000 miles on it started leaking rear axle fluid thru axle vent only during high speed runs. I changed the original vent just like you did with same one from ford. Still leaked at high speed. ordered the kit you recommended and it fit even though my axle vent is on passenger side of axle. No more leaks !! thanks again for your help, you have new subscriber.
Great to hear & thanks for subscribing!
So did this hose update fix the leaking?
I wonder if that breather hose will spit some oil out without the valve on the end. Reason I say this is because I notice some wetness around mine , it doesn't have the white vent.
Mines been leaking slowly for maybe 8000-9000 miles / roughly one year. It never leaves puddles or spots on the ground but the axle itself is wet near the valve. Do you think i have to add fluid or is it not necessary?
I did this fix but it still splash’s oil every now and then any suggestions?
did the leak go away after installing this new vent valve?
so I was trying to get the seam vent valve I have in my 2012 mustang I went to the dealer and they told me that the one I already have is no longer existing and they were trying to sell me the vent with a hose which is the same one you have in this video, first I didn't feel comfortable about buying it but after doing a lot of research I finally found your video and I would like to ask you do you see any more leak after installing this new vent valve?
You can still purchase original valve- amzn.to/2uKvvYf
will this fit 2013 ford explorer? tia
I'm thinking to purchase the new vent kit too. Is there an update?
This is the only part- ebay.us/JEtl8x
It's still leaking even after i changed the vent, do you have any idea what it could be
If the differential has too much fluid in it, it will also overflow.
How do you check the diff fluid level?
You can't, there's no dipstick.
Will this fit a 2012 v6
That's a 2012 V6 in the video, so yes.
I wonder if locktite or Teflon tape on the threads would've made a difference
No, it comes from the factory with a self-sealer. It's stated in the direction. The fluid shoots out the vent.
@@MikeBiddle You are the master of this vent tube.
You think it’s a good idea to cap off the axle vent? Buy a Shelby 13-14 dinner differential cover and install a vent valve on the top of that? So we’re basically relocating the vent to the top of the unit
Yes! That will work. As long as there is a way for it to vent.
After all is leaking or if fine. Just put the one the have but new and leak. Before buy with the hose i want to make sure the axle is complete dry and no mere leak
how did you clip it?
I have the Ford Performance differential. You can fine a place.
Curious after 2 years…how is this fix holding-up? About to do this on my 2012 GT. Thanks for the video! 😀👍
It's still on there! :‐)
@@MikeBiddle awesome! Just put a kit on order from a local dealer $42 now
@@robesope what kit did you order? Trying to find one for my 2013 GT
@@HaydenCoonRealtor , I went to a local Ford dealer and told them what I needed and picked it up a few days later…just told them “axel tube vent kit for a 2012 Mustang GT.” I can get the part number off of the packaging if you want
@@robesope I have a 2013 gt, so I assume it would be the same. Could you? I would really appreciate it
What’s the update??
Did this fix and the axle is now bone dry! Thanks for the video!!
