I still have and use my 2013 iMac daily! I've taken extra great care of it over the years, so it still looks and runs like new. Mine has 16 GB of memory and a 1 TB hard drive, which is more than sufficient for me and what I use it for. I use it for my full-time medical and legal transcription job and basic web browsing, email, Microsoft Office, and some light photo editing. It's still able to perform any task I throw at it without a single hitch. This is why I have so much love for Apple products. When you buy an Apple computer, you KNOW that it's going to serve you well for many years to come and you're definitely getting your money's worth. I just splurged and bought a brand new 2020 model MacBook Pro to upgrade from my 2016 and I'm sure that will last me for a very long time! I might buy a newer model iMac next year, but we shall see! Right now, I don't see the need to spend the money when my 2013 is still a work horse.
i use the same machine for video editing ,all i did was put 16 gig ram in it and 1 terra ssd....now its a beast .....good buy ...still running perfectly in 2021
👌
Thank you for all the info specific to editing because I just bought an iMac 2013 today and was worried that premiere pro wouldn’t operate on an older computer. So excited for a larger screen instead of my little laptop
Is it worth in 2021 ?? Because i wanna buy one. Please reply back :)
@@lucaborhidan1642 100% it’s definitely worth it
@rodrigo yeah they are good mate either the 2013 or 2014 versions are perfect for it you can get them now for just under £200 on eBay I tend to use final cut aswell and it runs it all perfectly👍
@@TristanCooperFishing buying one today , thank you for your input
Can this Mac edit 4k footage? And is it a good decision of buying this rather than going for good pc built? Like any 6th or 7th gen Intel processor, a good ram, and Nvidia 1660ti graphics card?
really enjoying your editing related content and your journey to cali! i'm also trying to become a freelance video editor so watching related content is nice
Appreciate it dude! Dude, it's totally doable. If you haven't seen it, the "how i became a fulltime freelancer" or something like that will definitely help you out
Looking to buy this exact mac for the exact same reason. Thank you so much Josh, this was so helpful!
Prime! Look for it way cheaper at this point bc the new M1 MacBook air is just about as powerful as this machine now lol
@@JoshThrives will do! Thanks for the tip.
Very interesting that people still use iMacs from this era. Even though, it’s old it’s still useable in 2022. I have late 2012 27 inch, with 24GB ram installed + macOS Monterey. It works well for what I use, I love the big display and the loud speakers!
Hi Josh, watching you from Greece . . . thanks for your insights about the iMac i5.
You inspired my wife and I to save some euros and buy one used for creating a new website, photo editing and some video. We can appreciate you sincere expression in your videos . . . rare in today’s world.
We have also been freelancers for over 30 years and know the ups and downs. Will check out your channel and other videos about how you do your budgeting and income tracking. You have helped us realize the focus we are missing, that we used to do religiously in keeping better records. Thanks for your work and keep it going.
Thank you Brad! The compliments mean a lot from someone as experienced as you
I bought this exact same iMac for the family computer. Runs like a charm.
This was my very first foray into the world of Macintosh computers! All my Apple things I've ever got I can still count on one hand: iPod Mini, iPod Classic, iPod Touch v4, iPad Pro 2018, and this iMac. I'm about to pick up that new hotness, the M1 Max MacBook Pro. I'm very excited, but I'll still be kicking around on this 2013 bad boy.
I just bought mine Today and am happy is working for me..
Thank you! This video was helpful I appreciate it.
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are great because you are authentic. Good luck with that move to California. 👍
Thank you!
Great price on the imac and it’s perfect for any video editor it seems! Awesome pick up
It really is!
@@JoshThrives hii! im a gamer and thinking of buying a imac would that work well, Thanks!
that's not really a good price for a 7-8 year old computer. I bought the exact same one like 2 days ago for $350
Josh making movesss 🔥
money movesss
Kool im about to buy one today exactly the same one so this help me a lot thanks
Sweet, they should be cheaper now bc of the new M1 chips
My parents upgraded from their G5 iMac to a Late 2013 iMac and it’s still going strong even 10 years later!
My mate offered his 2013 iMac today for £250. I think I’ll definitely buy it now. Would be great for my music and video production.
yeah since the M1 this older stuff has gone way down in price
That’s still a good machine. I went laptop shopping yesterday and some of the new models don’t have close to that power and are more expensive. You got a I-7 processor, 32gb ram and pretty good video card.
I really want a new laptop, but you get more bang for your buck going the desktop route .....trying to decide, indecision at the highest level, lol.
Yeah, like my macbook is newer and has less than half the power it seems. Good luck!
Just bought one here in New Zealand "Mint Condition"for $175.00 NZD about $122.00 USD
Yeah dude once the m1 came out this went way down in value haha. Good find!
I just picked up one with the same spect for 150 bucks. I like it was good no issue no leg.
Are you still using it? I bought a 2012 machine a few weeks ago, absolutely love it, surprised how fast it still is!
Just got a "? folder" 2013 21.5" i7 4770, 8gb ram, (failed) 250b SSD, w/ a GTX 750M for $50!
Got it booting from a 500gb Kingston SATA SSD w/ a SATA ro USB 3.0 cable.
Loving it!
My best friend uses this iMac and has been since 2015. It runs stuff amazing especially video games
What video games qnd how
Nice Video bro, i use one like that now
I just bought one for £85! On ebay.has a small chip in it but doesn't effect the actual screen. Will get a new screen when I can but for logic pro x this is perfect
Amazing!
Great video just subbed💪, I’m buying me one today I can’t wait n I will be using mine for video editing cause I will be making short videos for clients soon and when saw how unbeatable a 2013 iMac was compared to $1k pc to do the same thing it’s a no brainer for me, I was hoping to get a MacBook Pro but than I realized I can get an older iMac that completely whips the floor with most MacBooks. I went from phone to iPad which I love but I just need something that can do a bit more so a 2013 iMac the answer for me💪
Sounds good!!
I have this computer (except with 16GB of ram bc I’m too cheap to buy 2 sticks of Ram and slide it in the back) and I gotta say it’s good value. Sure, it’s not a gaming rig, but for what I do (video editing, photo editing, music production, and emulate old games once in a while) it SLAYS. I never have any issue that isn’t caused by my own stupidity. I’m bummed that the support for it officially was dropped for BigSur, but until apps stop working on Catalina (which will hopefully take a few years) this is my go to workhorse. I love this thing and it was like $800.
YUP 👌 yeah bummed about big sur tho but whatever
@@JoshThrives you over paid by quite a lot. I paid less than $500 for this exact set up
@@AustinHollingerOfficial this video came out before the M1 macs were released; these got way cheaper then
Really liked this 👍👍
Thanks!
I'm using this computer and I love it.
sweet!
Everyone here is missing the top of the line feature that these Older iMacs offered and that is Target Display. I just bought this same model instead of a new 5K iMac because of Target Display & pretty low price.
Thinking of getting into video editing with a similar setup. Are you still using the 2013 IMac 2 years later ??? Good luck on your business goals !!!!
Seen one for around 450 thinking of getting one just for music production
Yeah look for them way cheaper than what I got it for bc of the new m1 macs
Same bro
Same I'm thinking of becoming a prouder as well so I guess this imac will help out with all my music beats
Same here! Lol wtf that’s crazy
Same here bro not go lie
I just bought one like urs 2013 27 inch iMac it came with an apple ssd. This is my first iMac and I completely love it. You are so right about building a computer and having all the wires I love that there's just one power plug and move it free and easy 👍
Yesss, the best. Glad you're digging it
Is your iMac using intel Iris Pro Graphics?
I just have iMac 21.5 in late 2013. But the LCD very bad, I mean, I think it requires video card upgrade. The thin letters and writings are not clear.
Is there anyway to upgrade the video card so that I would have a better display?
good luck josh! big screens make big ideas happen. always do a clean install. I use two 27"s their great.
Dope. Yeah it's been great so far
Can this Mac edit 4k footage? And is it a good decision of buying this rather than going for good pc built? Like any 6th or 7th gen Intel processor, a good ram, and Nvidia 1660ti graphics card?
My mom got a new iMac so me gave her late 2013 iMac for 0$ lol it works great for me. Sounds is good. I mainly just use it for researching/CZcams/movies
nice!
Hi josh, this video really tempts me to buy the same spec Imac, are you still using this PC up to date???? Is it still working smooth today as you made this video a year back??
I got an m1 macbook a while back. If you're looking to spend what I spent on this, get one of those. These are way cheaper now tho since the m1 chip macbooks came out
@@JoshThrives How long will a late 2013 w all original parts last?
Can you suggest? - I am selling my Imac - and giving to a family relative - hence would you suggest an upgade or upgrade internals and giving to family relative? same old PC? is it usful for lightroom/photoshop apps?
So it's still worth it? Because I'm thinking about getting an old used one to connect it with my ipad air, to save my documents and maybe to edit photos, to work with it for school and later for university. Is it worth buying one for that? And is it good buying it from eBay? I would be really thankful for an answer 😊
Yeah, it doesn't take too much computing power to save documents and edit photos, so I'm sure it would work for you! And ebay all depends on the seller. Just check out the listing and their seller rating and make the best call you can.
Can u use iMovie on that computer?
I have a Late 2012 which I bought no working for $50. Lucky I got a free one the same model and all I had to do was take the power supply and put it in the $50 one. It is an i7 and had 24 gb of ram. These are great machines. I do have a 5k imac and it ain't that much better as far as sharpness.
Brother is this model good for work of a designer? Btw I’m using autocad, sketchup and revit and a heavy render of it
Hey I need help with installing photoshop. They say use a creative cloud 2017 version but I’m still having a problem figuring out how to install the software.
Can I use a usb to charge iMac all in one desktop computer, just like your
I live in a car, I don't have wall plugs, just usb battery solar generator
awesome. I am sooooo not savvy. how much space or how long can I video?
Omg the IT department at my work are selling them for 350$ but you have to be working there. Idk if I should get it or not 🧐
not a bad idea!
Mate can you transfer 4k videos onto this from iphone x and does it have the same playback quality?
Yeah air drop works best for that when going straight from an iPhone and quality shouldn't be affected anytime you transfer a video with air drop
I have the exact same iMac computer. The original battery mouse goes through batteries like crazy. Is the magic apple mouse compatible with this computer? Just checking.
It should be? I use a Logitech mouse and a magic track pad
Let’s gooooo!
🤘🤘🤘
I got one from a store in Akihabara, for 39800 JPY, ABOUT $360
i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB Fusion, 21.5" screen and 1024MB video card
In May 2019
Im thinking about getting a 2012 imac and horsing it with ssd and 16gbs of ram what do you think will it be worth it?
bro i just got a 2013 imac on craigslist for $50.. the previous owner decided to sell it because “the screen stopped working one day”. ....which, obviously there’s gotta be workaround to that.
tinkered with it for about 2hrs and now i’m set !!! 😳🙏🏼
also someone rear ended me while i was driving my girlfriends car later that day.. but hey $50 2013 imac!
My how a few months changes everything. An M1 Macbook Air will run circles around that iMac for the same money.
🥲
I am looking at the same iMac today for around $400. Do you still use this computer? Have your views changed?
OK so I bought this computer probably like three months ago and it’s telling me that my software is not updating I’m trying to like edit videos and stuff like that so I was trying to figure out how to download iMovie please tell me is not updated so is there a software that I can buy to update it so I guess this year or something closer
I will be getting it for my second monitor my main is 16gb ram 1tb ssd i5 2017 imac
Please let me know if you worked on editing any 4K video on this, and share your experience.
I did, depending on the bitrate it would be able to handle it but it definitely wasn't always smooth
Okay, ive watched tons of videos and still confused on what to buy. Im Learning how to edit videos and create things in photoshop and other adobe apps. Can i buy a "Late 2013 imac core i5@2.7ghz gb ram 1TB Intel iris pro graphics" and have a smooth experience while making videos? i would love is some one could help me with this, Thanks
i have a shop near me that sells them for $250. i heard about people adding 500gb ssd and 16gb of ram and they are decent for editing. But, in all the videos the processors where i7. Is there any huge difference in i5 and i7?
Nice buy
I have this 16GB
Hi, I’m thinking of getting a 2013 iMac too... Will probably stick to 1080p editing, but may want to try 4K editing too... is it viable with this iMac? Thanks 🙏.
Definitely. I've done a bunch of 4k stuff, it does just fine
@@JoshThrives I do a lot of 4K video editing on an i7 2013 iMac without problems
@Zagros what has the display to to with it ??
How do you get a job the kind of work you do. Do you need to have experience to the work. I have the same iMac as well.
Got most of my clients on freelance sites, referrals from other clients, clients who followed me/built a relationship on social media
I still use my late 2013, 3,5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 32GB. It works just fine! ,
Nice!
I juss bought this mac. How long do u think this mac can last before it's obsolete.
I mean there's already those new m1 MacBooks that pretty much are more powerful than this computer... Mine works great though
Hey! Would you recommend this machine for myself wanting to try an UX design course? I’m aware I’ll need some of the creative cloud but just wondering if you know how this would perform. Thanks!
i am unfortunately in no way familiar with what UX design is or what processing requirements it entails haha, this edits 1080p video no problem and can handle 4k alright if that tells you anything
@@JoshThrives haha no worries yeah that helps! You wouldn’t know if it runs photoshop indesign lightroom etc by any chance?
You got it on eBay!? Amazon man I’ve been researching and the exact computer goes for 500 something on Amazon
I’m not seeing one with the same processor/ram. The $500 ones are 8gb i5.
1tb
Have you edit any 4K videos yet?
Do still use this set up in 2021? I'm looking at the option in 2021 for video editing on a budget.
I've got an m1 air now. You can definitely get a deal with these now especially since the m1 macs
@@JoshThrives how would you compare the m1 air to the m1 pro?
I only have the m1 air, so i'm not sure. Ovbiously the pros can handle more, but this air does fine with 4k footage + effects in final cut
I could pick one of these up for $320, good deal? exact specs
Are you kidding me? I just paid 160 for the same computer that I gotta spec myself even with an SSD. Yesterday.
Its actually very good for media
Bro do you think this a good buy to start music production?
Idk the hardware requirements for music production but it’s pretty decent at video editing so I imagine music is comparable if not less intensive?
Whats your opinion to buy an Imac OS X yosemite 10.10.5. 2.7ghz with Intel Iris Pro. 8GB ram for a Graphic designer? Thanks!
Its a 2013!
Ram mostly has to do with multitasking and doing things at the same time, 8 will get you by, but you'll have to make sure you close other apps and stuff. I don't regularly use graphic design apps so idk what memory requirements they have. I run activity monitor constantly to see what's running and how much power it requires. As far as the OS it's not really relevant as you can update it.
Thanks for answering! My current computer is a second-generation 8gb Asus and it really has a hard time opening Adobe programs at the same time. I understand that a mac works better but I think it would need a little more Ram right? thanks!
Did you buy one in the end? Looking to buy an imac with 8gb ram and I'm a graphic designer as well
Is it good for lightroom CC
Can it still be updated
Mine just died today. Don’t know if I can save it… I’m trying to restore it from time machine but it wants 87 hours and in the last 14 hrs it still wants 82 hours… I’ll be wounded if it dies.
Mate you look like John Mayer 😂😂😂
Ahaha that's the best comment I've gotten this week
I'm joining your team :D i bought a 2014 iMac in 2021
Nice! They got even cheaper bc of the m1
can u make a comparison with m1? thanks
That's exactly the same computer i got in late 2019. Very nice computer indeed!
Nice!
Is this same model but 16 GB worth getting for video/picture editing for my canon EOS M50 Mark II
Photos will be good, 4k stuff depends on if you're using final cut or premiere. Premiere is a bit laggier
So final cut would be best to use for editing pictures & videos?
@@robertnavarrette9177 final cut is a video editor. neither are really better; pros use both.
My fav
wow, that is so cool
Yeah! thanks for checking it out
@@JoshThrives No problem! I hope you'll post a demonstration and benchmark of this!! New sub.
Next time you want to reinstall burn Catalina to a Flash drive and do a clean install
Will do.
I'm planing to buy this would it be good for an animation and editing student
I've never done animation on it, but for editing it pretty much handles 1080p no problem, but once you start getting to high bitrates and 4k it's tougher. maybe consider an M1 Macbook at this point, they're the same price that i paid for this imac at the time and work way better
Is it wirht it in 2022?
Can i use GarageBand correctly with this iMac 2013 ?
I don't see why not
You should install a SSD then you will have wonderful snappy iMac for many years to come
I mostly use external, portable ssds
We just got the same computer. It won’t let us update to Del Sur. What did you do to update it
@@julianagil6598 I'm just still on Catalina on that computer
Being a designer, could that iMac be a good option?
To be honest I don't know what computing requirements are needed for a "designer" but it definitely holds up to 1080p video editing, which is pretty intensive
Just bought the same one.
Nice
Is the 2013 A1418 still worth buying in 2022? I found one for $300.
@@elijahfluw4347 😬Wish you’d recommended it sooner. I just bought the A1418.🤷🏽♀️it’ll hold me for a little while. I have to take care of some major home repairs now.
How old of an iMac would you say is safe to buy? Would you go any older than a 2013?
I probably wouldn't but they'd be dirt cheap at this point since the M1 chips came out
If you're still looking into buying an old mac I'll tell you that I'm using a trusty 2010 27" imac that I dug out of a dumpster a while ago. Ive upgraded cpu and wireless card and installed two ssds as well as an external eSATA port. I'm running the latest version of mac OS Monterey with OpenCore patcher and It runs great! Probably be using this 12 year old beast for a while to come!
My current HP Spectre laptop is about reaching its death bed and I’ve been window shopping for A computer too. I do mainly photography. Started looking at the Dell XPs laptop (which is like 4 kidneys) cause I’ve never really owned a Mac or used one extensively (except the intro I have to iphones, which I assume computers are pretty different, idk) but I’m considering trying 🖥 out. This seems legitimately workable for photography needs and BTS video stuff. Watchu think? Tryna get a car so I’m not out here tryna spend the cost of 4 kidneys on a machine to sit at home, though it’s a good investment into my photography business too.
You could definitely find a 2012 or 2013 imac with less specs than this one that still shreds photos for $4-600. Not as computer intensive. Even less if you're willing to go 21 inch screen as opposed to 27. And that's still massive compared to any laptop
I got one but it doesn't do the imovie or numbers and pages. Help me plz
Just download them from the app store?
Have this computer. Is it VR-ready? I want to get a quest 2 for my birthday
no idea unfortunately haha

You should reset the mac to factory at least and not rename some old directorys. Thats quite dangerouse
It’s crazy how much Mac computers hold their value
right??
@@depression_isnt_real yup. Have had mine since 2013 and still gets the job done. If it were a windows desktop, probably would have been in the trash years ago

I got the exact same iMac like 2 days ago for $350 with all original equipment and cables. you got stiffed really hard dude.
This video is over a year old and this what they went for before the m1 came out. Sick deal you got tho
@@JoshThrives that’s very true, but I still think that is a really steep price to ask for a 7 year old computer:/. Which, admittedly, is sad to say because of how nice it really is.
