Methodical, sensible and to the point, and no dumb techno music, thank you!
Finally a real video where all the parts don’t come off like they were just installed yesterday 🤣
Love how this video is dealing with the realistic problems unlike others that edit all the problem parts
+John Parrish Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah, these are good videos. The little details make a difference. Just did the rear shocks on mine. Looking at doing the strut assemblies next.
How to fight swaybar end link 101 😂
TreyCurrieBa Stay tuned for Part 2, where he tries to put it back on, using the WHOLE tool box
lol aye he handled it though
"You don't have to take that link off, it just makes it a lot easier" .....uhhh....if you say so! DON'T RUIN A PERFECTLY GOOD SWAY LINK. Not required at all for this job
Great real world demonstrations and they have good customer service!!
+EstimatingONE DiscoveringTHREE Thanks for checking us out and the positive feedback! 1AAuto.com
Appreciate the vid saved me some money. All that rust on that frame makes me appreciate Colorado's dry weather
+adubbz23 Thank you for your positive feedback! We are happy we could help.
Much respect ‘old school way no power tools great job 👍
+Big Jone’s Thanks for checking us out!
I just swapped mine out on my 2011 Silverado 1500 2wd crew cab v-8 5.3 litter. Removing the sway bar links was not necessary on my truck. I used a Pittsburg jack and the strut assembly just came out towards the engine block. The holes did not line up but I was able to line them up with a pry bar and also if you do end up taking the sway bar link off it’s going to be difficult to get them both back on without having to loosen the opposite side just fyi.
I did not have to remove the sway bar links because I disassembled both sides at the same time. This way most of the spring tension is relieved on the sway bar. Worked for me...
1OlBull I have a 3 1/2 strut spacer will the same method work ?
1OlBull you are correct you do not need to remove sway bar links at all like he does here that’s just making more work for yourself he is probably just trying to juice the customer for more labor and parts money. You also don’t have to go with cheap crappy strut assemblies from 1AAuto if you actually care about your vehicle, go with Monroe, KYB, ACDelco or something of actual quality.
Clinton Hogan Agree, but who makes the best strut assembly?
@@silfortytypex actually, if you really care you would do it the long way and get bilstein shocks all around.
Great comprehinsive vid.
I see a ton of how to replace videos on you tube but none really adressing how to determine if yours are in need of replacing or what to do if you find your top nut to be loose after it's installed on the vehichle for some miles
I bring this up because I recently discovered my drivers side front strut had a little latteral play in it and after finding out how to hold on to the stud to tighten up the nut, I did get the nut to turn but I never got anything any tighter.
I'm in a 2012 GMC Sierra SLE Z71 4X4 with 4" rancho lift and rancho struts.
The lift is just about as old as the vehichle with 178,000 miles on it. I bought it with the lift already on it and I just got new wheels, tires and an alignment. I'm honestly a bit concerned about the tread life on my new tires if there is an un known alignment enemy waiting in the wings. The alignment shop gave no mention of the loose strut bolt at the time of alignment back in october 2020.
Any advice is greatly apreciated.
Thanks
Love this website. Will never walk into a auto parts store again unless in need of a part right away
+Nick’s knuckle breakin’ fixin’ channel Thank you so much for the feedback!
i just buy off amazon
thank you great video
Please do a video for a 2014 nissan versa sv note assembly for front struts and rear struts. What is the torque required for the front struts nut?
As always the best
Thanks for the money saving videos ya'll make. Cut the head off the bottom end of the sway bar link with that cut off wheel and be done with it already
+Summit 1234 Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
ok maybe im not seeing the whole picture. Why do you have to remove the sway link?
Great job bouncing back from the rust.
after completing did anyone notice when he put the tire back on that the strut looked like the old one..lol
+Daniel Bakken Thanks for checking us out. 1AAuto.com
Yeah I noticed that too. They must have used the same video from another video. Instead of videoing it again. But yes I thought it was funny too. But smart of just reusing a video already taken.
it’s the same video they put it on any video that deals with having to put the wheel back on instead of recording one every time
Time saving trick. Splice film cuts together as needed. No need to re-shoot each time.
Noticed that that as well too funny. tricky 1A auto
Hey A1 Auto I like your videos and find them very helpful and I plan on buying parts from your website. I have one question though, is there a video on how to replace front shocks instead of these struts with a spring on them? Because that's what appears to be on my vehicle?
you were the nicest I've ever see to a old crusty end link lol I woulda bashed may mofo out once the top nut didn't release it with a mini sledge or cut it in half n then banged it out.. you're too nice of a guy lol =) cheers
Does the truck have to be up in the air to do this job or can you use a floor Jack ?
I'm just gonna take a small grenade launcher and blow the sway bar link and the truck to smithereens 😅🤣🤣🤣🤣
From the end link to the " torque these nuts" I really am just at a loss for words
This is incorrect information. The torque spec on these is 37 foot pounds, not 70-75 foot pounds bottom and 75-80 foot pounds top as stated in the video.
Would I be wrong by snapping the link with a breaker bar?
Using a long extension on the top nuts makes it a whole lot easier.
Yes this is what I like rusted bolts like most vehicles around here are.
Could had made it easier for yourself if after taking off the nut on the end link you would have just cut off the bolt head instead of the sleeve.
So glad I don’t have to deal with the salt like you guys.I would never buy a new truck if I lived up north. Good video but I would definitely be using my small in pack though after I break stuff loose saves so much time
Wow! Look at the rust on that alternator!
Exactly what I thought when I saw it lol
Why truck all orange color underneath? Does truck live inside ocean? What rust?
Regards, Arizona
Do I need to get truck aligned after changing the sway bar links and strut assembly?
no!
Great video sir, but use the ratchet on the nut, instead of turning the bolt with the ratchet use the ratchet to spin the nut and hold the bolt with the box end wrench.
My 09 has the battery box and the air box and a few other things in the way that you have to remove and it's a pain
Real work whit is problem
Thanks.
+Dennison George Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Did you pull that truck out from the bottom of the ocean?
thats how cars look under in Massachusetts
You forget the clips that go on the bottom of the strut for the bolts
The other video of this exact same thing from 1A auto said to torque the bolts to 75-80 ft pounds, this one says 37 ft pounds??? Which is it???
Also, is it possible to replace just the front shock absorber, or do I have to replace the whole strut just to do that?
From my understanding, it's 75 for lbs for top nuts and 37 ft lbs for bottom bolts.
I just did this same job on my buddies 08 Silverado and it was way faster for me than this poor guy, makes me appreciate living in California I've never had to work on a vehicle that was as rusty as this one is. But good informative video
+Nick Cossio Thank you! We love empowering our customers and showing how to perform DIY auto repairs with our high-quality auto parts. 1AAuto.com
Its not as bad to be honest. 😂😂😂 thats light rust
I replace my struts about a week ago, it wasn't that hard. The only thing is that my suspension feels more stiff and going over bumps feels like a knocking sound.... I checked and double clench everything is torque down to specs. Is this normal? Do the struts need to be break in?
+Juan Hinojosa Thanks for checking us out! Yes, the struts will need time to break in. Please let us know if you have any further questions, thank you!
@@1AAuto thank you, your videos really help out a lot to a DIY like my self... that's why I had purchased my struts with you guys
How can you tell if you have electronic suspension or don't have it ?
+TX militia Thanks for watching! Electronic shocks will have electrical wires running to them, so that is usually the easiest way to find out! 1aauto.com
No requirement to destroy a perfectly good sway link to do this job at all. It does not make it that much easier...in fact, I will argue you wasted WAY more time wrestling that link out then just getting the strut done.
+Wicket's Claws Thanks for the feedback!
Anyone else notice the condition of the strut when he is putting the wheel back on
Why did you remove the stabilizer isolator? That's the only part that didnt make sense.
My goodness that truck is rusty! Must live where there's a lot of salt.
Do you need alignment?
+@richr2979 Yes, an alignment should be done after the installation of these parts.
by the way guys. you dont need to take the swap bar off. leave it on and just remove the bolts from the shock. thats all you need to do
+ads is cool Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
👍🏾👏🏾
Where's the torch at bro
Is this the same for 4x4
Yes, it should be a similar procedure. +slipperymango 93
Yes, it should be a similar procedure. +slipperymango 93
I put my blistein shocks with little less than 2” high levels, and removed only the 3 nut from the top of shocks and the 2 bottom ones nothing else
No
Great Video but I wouldn't waste all that time with the sway bar link; I would have just cut it off because you had to replace it anyway once you cut it.
You think the bolts were long enough
My struts don't fall out that easy WTH
Don't worry dude, I cussed it plenty for both of us just watching lol. I instantly want to go outside and kick the sh** out of my truck just because lol
+noahkb80 Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
you forgot to mention the clips that go on the lower part of the strut that have to come off the old one and be put on the new one... peace
+HOTRODRICO Thanks for the tip!
Am I the only person that noticed shock struts are old when he put tire back on
Good learning video tho thanks
ALSO, don't actually tighten any of the bolts until you get that sway bar link, and in my case, a suspension leveling kit in place first. Sometimes the sway bar link doesnt line up exactly.
+Neck Bone Thanks for the tip!
why when you drop the truck to torque the nuts on the wheel the strut looked rusty lol the video been edited out good video
You doin too much on sway bar..just remove it already..
😅no need to take of stabilzer
