  • Welcome back to Development Division!
    Today, I am helping my buddy Jacob replace the front struts and rear shocks on his 2018 Chevy Silverado. This install is moderate difficulty. The front strut/spring assembly will have to be disassembled via spring compressor. Always use proper personal protection equipment and obey all warning labels on parts and tools. Special thanks to Jacob for making this episode possible!

    I've seen so many videos where they do not take the time to provide the torque specs. Thank you for a thorough and detailed video that doesn't cause me to go find important information elsewhere.

    Wish we had more young men like this. Very knowledgeable and not getting into trouble, but doing something constructive and teaching everyone with his great video. God bless you.

    Great video young man! Very detailed. I love your idea of marking all your bolts and nuts after torquing them down. Your patience working on cars and trucks is a lesson in itself. Thank you!

      Is there any reason you went with 5100's over the 4600's on all 4 corners?

    • @developmentdivision122
      @developmentdivision122  Před 4 měsíci

      Main reason is user bias. I ran some 5100s on my jeep for a couple years and thought they were excellent off road. I don’t have any experience with 4600s, but I believe the 5100s are just a little more heavy duty. The 5100s also have adjustable ride height adjustment, I wanted to open up some options for the truck owner.

    Is it rougher after that configuration? I also have the Bilstein set to half and my idea is to leave them stock and set the leveling the same as you, another question: did you have to cut the bump stops?

    • @developmentdivision122
      @developmentdivision122  Před 4 měsíci

      Eh, I’d say the ride feels almost the same as stock, if anything a lil more on the comfortable side. I did not cut the bump stops.

    Hi, what model and type are your spacers for lifting the front? And have you seen a big difference in comfort even with your spacers for lifting? THANKS

    • @developmentdivision122
      @developmentdivision122  Před 4 měsíci

      Motofab spacers. No difference in ride quality since the spacers don’t interfere with the stock suspension. They simply attach to the top of the shock assembly.

      ok thank you but with your new shock on the front have you found a big difference in comfort?

    Did you re-use the bump stop that was inside the front strut spring or did you remove it and not use it?

  • @Je-cm6fc
    @Je-cm6fc Před 2 měsíci

    What do you do when the OEM spring seats are welded onto the shock and cannot remove them?

    • @wn9448
      @wn9448 Před 17 dny

      They can be pressed off. You'll likely need to take them to a local shop for that.

    Not sure if this will be a problem or not, but you installed the rear shocks upside down, The dust boot is supposed to installed up according to Bilstein.

    • @89dhvac
      @89dhvac Před 2 měsíci +1

      This is not correct. According to Bilstein, the label on the shock should be upright and readable when installed. This may result in the boot being at the top or at the bottom depending on the application.

    • @cujo7240
      @cujo7240 Před 2 měsíci +1

      My mistake, I installed these recently on my truck, and I read the same thing. I've installed many shocks in the past, many of them from Bilstein, and the boot always was on the top.

    • @Buuboi214
      @Buuboi214 Před 13 dny

      Why would Bilstein have you install their product with the logo and letterings upside down 🤦🏽‍♂️? have common sense dude

    • @cujo7240
      @cujo7240 Před 13 dny

      I've been installing Bilstein shocks in my rigs for more than 25 years, mostly the 4600 series and all those years they were installed with the boots at the top. So my common sense told me that they were still being installed that way.

  • @andrewisreal5797
    @andrewisreal5797 Před 2 měsíci

    Switch the shock they are upside down and will effect ride quality

    • @89dhvac
      @89dhvac Před 2 měsíci

      This is incorrect. He installed them correctly according to Bilstein.
